Body looks free from twists, roof is unmarked as is the rear, Wheel is bent in and looks like it is slightly touching the inner wing / plastic on rotation. Bit of plastic stuck in the fork of the wheel. Rear quarter doesn't look too bad rear bumper paint has been stressed but no visible damage. Boot panel gap is fine as is the passenger door.
Wheel is the only real worry!
Hope my niece is ok!!! Can't tell from the pics but bumper is caved in with the wing. Good thing as it means whatever attaches it to the car is still in tact. She just woke up screaming and crying. Dreaming of it. Bit of a trying day for her. She played Mary in the school nativity this morning. Very happy, as happy as a 3 year old can be. We were dropping her nana off as she came to watch and that's when it happened. I left them at nanas and nursed the car home. She was crying at nanas saying "poor daddy's super car is poorly". Bless. Now my shower has decided to break.

Aww muzzy! I love this car almost as much as you! Have a soft spot for wine red plusses. Not to mention the recent work etc... Truly gutted for you, my blood would be boiling! I thought I had it bad a couple of month back when, although I was committed and had right of way(obstruction on his side), a of a bin lorry driver decided to force his way through a gap, shall we say not big enough for my coop and his lardy arse, and it was that close the near side curb took a nice chunk of my passanger front alloy as my drivers wing mirror scraped against his truck! But in your case it looks like absolute carelessness, for that to happen in a 20! I Feel your pain, and really hope you get it put right without too much hastle. Hard to look on the bright side, but I suppose it could have being much worse, perhaps like the coupe at Nigels that's being T-boned by a merk sprinter @ 30 mph! None the less, really gutted for you mate. Me and my dad have an odd set of 3 plus alloys kicking around somewhere, being hunting for a single plus alloy for yonks! So I'm guessing you won't have much joy! Seems it's easier to buy 2. So if I find 2 in time, 1 of them's yours if it helps you out

Cheers F1ANG, obviously I'll go halves on the wheels if you find some and if mine gets fixed (fingers crossed). Unfortunately that was the best wheel out of my 4! Lol.
I imagine that wasn't a nice experience, having a bin waggon inch ever closer to the side of you while you just sat there powerless.
I'm putting on a brave face at the moment, until I get a verdict.
This is why I love this forum and a bloody good reason to own a coop.

Now my shower has decided to break. Oh dear, night terrors are not good for anyone! Bumper didn't look caved to me, looked like the mounting has moved with the wing. The body work looks superficial as long as your wonky wheel (looks like that took a fair amount of the pain)is only an arm / bush combo then it'll be fine. Not sure if the wheel would cause a write off though, if they are unavailable new and it needs replacing.....

As repairs go Adam its relatively straightforward.
Good luck either way,but if I were you I would buy it back as it was very clean prior.

Since the boot line looks fine, the shell is still straight, it should be fixable.
Good luck!

Just had a conversation with one of the solicitors. His first response was "well, it's a old car. If there's any suspension damage it could be a written off". I said it looked intact but it's not the standard setup. After I realised he probably means arms and what have you. Not just the spring and shocks.

Hoping as others say, you can get everything sorted. Did you get any independent witnesses to reaffirm blame?
It has been a while, but I used to work in motor claims. Some thoughts, (apologies if they have been made elsewhere);
The indemnity principle means the insurers will base their decision whether to repair, on the car's market value (less salvage value) v the full cost of repair. Do you have a guaranteed insured value?
I would suggest you may need to hold out for a satisfactory settlement offer from the insurer. By evidencing the maintenance of the vehicle, its pre-accident condition and therefore its true value to those in the know. If the insurer's do write it off, then when you have got a fair valuation, insist on the right to purchase the salvage so that you can get a specialist to do the work or recover some of your loss via selling parts?
I believe others have outlined the issues for a vehicle, going forward, which has been registered as Category C or D.
Fingers crossed they do not write it off.

I'm glad you said that John because I put you down as preferred garage. I have a subframe off a car if you and your bro fancy fitting it one weekend. At least it'll make it drivable.

Cheers John. I'll let you know what's going on shortly. Haven't had a assessor out to it yet so I'm still unsure of the underlying damage.
Cheers for the info brilly. Just had a promising phone call this morning. Hire car coming and the witness details I have supplied should not be needed. It's straight forward in his eyes.
That's the problem with a write off, the resale of it. Hopefully it's not written off but I will catalogue the damage with photos ect for future reference.
Recent work done and FSH should help with the price.

Think of it this way fellas,I know how you both hate spending time with the wives so its a blessing at this time of year. December has the highest divorce rate than any other month so if your fixing the car you won't be In the way .

Update.
Someone is coming to assess it soon. I keep hearing "probably written off" and suchlike.
I suppose I'll find out soon enough.
Question. If whoever comes to assess it decides to write it off can I get a 2nd opinion?

The loss adjuster is on your side as most are independent engineers and impartial. My experience with them is be nice, offer tea/coffee and have ready some printed copies of other examples found for sale in the same or better condition. Pre accident condition will be factored in along with service history and costings for any recent work so make sure she's clean and looking tidy. Book valuation on these cars doesn't really count anymore so if they do write it off they're valuation is meant to be an amount that offers funds enough to buy like for like. Hope it all goes well

The car is yours, but not once they pay you unless you buy it back. Vic test may be needed which is a waste of time,as they don't check anything other than making sure its not the shell off a stolen car with your id.

The car is yours, but not once they pay you unless you buy it back. Vic test may be needed which is a waste of time,as they don't check anything other than making sure its not the shell off a stolen car with your id. JBT's right. With 3/4 panel damage and add wheel/suspension damage, there's no doubt they'll write it off. If you want to avoid write off the only sensible way is to get the other party to pay for the repair. They probably won't want to do this, but it would mean not losing any no claims that they've got. Joe's right too. Be nice to the assessor, because he will write it off, but he will also be first pass for getting you a fair valuation for starters and he may have some say on value of salvage that you buy back from insurance company. Which category it gets written off into would also be down to him. If he thinks it's Cat B, you may have to work hard to buy it back as insurance companies code of practice (but this is not law) is to have Cat B cars stripped by one of their preferred vehicle dismantlers and then have it scrapped. Cat C is easier to buy back from insurance company, but both Cat B and Cat C require a VIC check, which as JBT says is useless, but is the law. Costs about £40. If you can get the assessor to agree to Cat D (light damage) you wont even need a VIC check to get it back on the road. So be nice to the assessor, do all Joe said to prep the car and have evidence of real cost to buy an equivalent Coupe, say you'll most likely want to buy back the vehicle and ask if the price is the normal 10-15% of the claim value, finally try to get him to rate it a Cat C, if he's really nice and helpful, Cat D. Don't push too hard, but ask if you can claim for a hire car. You can, but if they settle quick you won't have to, so this will help to get claim expedited. Have experienced all of the above personally, so if you want further help PM me.

That said,I had a Volvo s40 estate in worth around £1100 and the Insurance repaired it at £1700 with rear 1/4 and suspension damage.
So disregard my statement as it doesn't always apply.
