Oh dear that looks like they had a bunch of cowboys around, best of luck sorting that one out!
Make sure you get them to pay to have it all redecorated I.e the whole room to match as well as repaired

On the plus side you shouldn't have too many condensation issues with all that additional ventilation.

Mrs Bockers dad did the pampering. In his defence the edges have lifted. The wall is old lime plaster which sucks up adhesive.

Why are the drill holes so high? Would be my first question. But non the less damage is done and its thier fault.
Stand your ground John and get an independant expert in to aid you in your claim.

Idiots ,but your not the first victim or the last.

Can i be the first in the que for Mrs Bockers Dad pampering please?

Cheers Joe, I'll let him know laugh (bloody auto correct!)

Just read up about party wall agreements, which he did not do. I am getting a builder in to do an estimate. They fitted nations and a damp proof membrane screwed into the wall...or should that be through the wall.

The thing is it should not be done like that anyway in a property this age, doing what he has done means it has compromised our side of the wall.

Is it a 9 inch wall?

They must have put some thought into the wall thickness?

Mmm maybe not!

It is one brick thick, so only 4 to 5 inches plus plaster. complete potlucks.

shocked That's shocking John and I hope it all gets sorted out for you.

Does your neighbour know what's happened yet and has he seen the damage?

Neighbour knows. However when I spoke with him I was so tired from traveling and in a state of disbelief and also did not realise our rights at the time.

He has market washed his hands odd the matter as I was dealing with his contractor to put right or damage.

The thing is I don't want his contractor working on my house so will be getting repair estimates from a builder I trust. We are also considering getting a property survey done on both sides of the wall as what he has had done could compromise our side of the wall.

I did not realise just how important it is to have a party wall agreement in place before you do such works. We are entirely within our rights to get or side fixed and present him with the bill. We are not going to be silly about this but at the same time we do not want to be governed by his contractor and timescales. Will wait till post Christmas before we get the work done.

I have to say I think you're being very reasonable given the time of year. I'd be wanting it repaired in time for Christmas, especially with the work you've put in on the bathroom.

If its only 4 or 5 inches thick John. It may be an idea to put an insulated metal stud wall in front of the existing wall.
With a metal stud wall you would only lose about 3 inches of the depth of the room. Use a solid insulation like Kingspan or an acoustic type.
Its possibly cheaper that way also.

The thing is did you suffer from any damp on that wall, well if you didn't surely he didn't.
If there was any damp on that wall, even just a bit you will be getting all of it through you side now, specially if they have done a proper job!
So you need to take that into consideration too for the future and any claims made!

Perhaps he got so fed up of all the noise you were making when doing your bathroom that he's just bolted a big slab of sound insulation up! hehe

Thanks Joe, however its a small room and 3 inches is a lot to lose.

What gets me is that he kept on drilling through the wall even after he must have felt no resistance when the first one broke through.

Is it just your front room, or did he get your dining room too?

Luckily Pete I was at home and heard the noise coming from the from room and went round just as they were going to attack the dining room.

It was just luck I was at home as the electrician was round checking my bathroom. Otherwise we would have come back to the new dining room plaster being completely destroyed.

The more I think about this the angrier i get.

Looks like a day to strip the paper and make good the holes and to pre glue the whole of that wall.
Then another day,s cost to skim.(although its only a morning skim really).
Then a day or two for decoration. Less than a £1,000 imagine John.
A bit more if there is more than in your photo's mate.

Yes I think you are about spot on Joe. At least the paper is only a layer thick. It took us a week to remove the previous layers of wood chip and assorted layer os paint colours.
