My son is thinking about a classic car but would have to keep it on the road...does anyone have any experience? which company might do it?

I understand that Glynwood do, but they won't do agreed value if it is kept on the road overnight. Certainly that is one club member's experience with his Coupe.

I think it is a matter of contacting companies individually and talking to them.

Usually they insist that it is a second car, with the daily driver car being insured on a mainstream policy.

I'm the one that cannot get guaranteed value due to parking on the highway, but I have no problems getting it insured for "market value" on a classic policy with Glynwoods insurance! I think they are coupe specialist so unsure how competitive they would be if the car was not a fiat coupe?
Adrian flux was a bit dearer but offered guaranteed value but as I did not take it up I don't know what their terms were I will certainly consider them if I can get a guaranteed value! That's if I don't sell up this year?

Glynwood run the Fiat Coupe Club specific insurance scheme. This is a package negotiated by the club and only available for our coupes, but they do insure other classic cars.

I have my Fiat X1/9 insured through them and their overall package proved competitive compared with others I asked to quote.

Both renewals were at the beginning of this month.

I was just told by Glynwood that they can't provide a competitive quote (compared with my Admiral multicar policy!) as I'm keeping my new acquisition (Frazer's 20VT+) on the road...

Years ago I had my coupe included on an Admiral Multicar policy.

When I had a brand new Fiat factory engine fitted to my Coupe back in 2007, they tried to tell me that it was a modification and charge me more. They also informed me that they would not cover the car if it were fitted with a strut brace as "it would make it more attractive to thieves"

Bunch of muppets in those days.

I doubt whether much has changed since, although I saw one of their ads in a classic car magazine yesterday claiming to offer agreed value policies if you pet a classic on a Multicar policy.

Direct Line declined to cover my Coupe because it had a strut brace rolleyes. I was with Glynwood but they got very expensive. Now have the Coupe insured through Adrian Flux on a classic policy - mind you it's parked on a drive rather than on the road, but give them a try.

Cheers for that - it's got so late in the day now I've (for better or worse) decided to bite the bullet and stay with ERS at Glynwood for the rest of the term. I haven't got the time to go through all the other rigmarole at this stage and there's no guarantee I'll save much.

I agree Glynwood are not particularly cheap but at least you can talk to them directly.

Next year I may do some research in advance...
