Has anyone fitted a DAB radio and if so, do you have to install a new aerial? I can't resist the allure of Absolute Radio 70s!

Yes, only within last week!

Post

I ended up, on advice from "Mr. Sound" aka dante giacosa, installing the aerial under the roof lining behind the passenger sunvisor, with the black box concealed and the L-shaped earth securely in contact with roof, leaving only the parallel aerial wires just visible under the sunscreened bit of the windscreen.

I'm really pleased with the end result even if the sticky backs provided were not up to the job - double-sided foam pads did the trick smile

See post below smile

Mrs Edinburgh's recent acquisition of a Seat Mii by Mango has been a happy one in every respect apart from the radio which frankly is cr4p frown

FM breaks up and AM is non-existent rolleyes

So after months of investigation I've come up with an alternative to the prohibitive cost of completely replacing the unit for a Seat/VW DAB one which needs to be linked with the satnav system....

It's tiny but easy to change station, just one button click to R or L click to enlarge

Tune it to an unused FM waveband and tune the car head unit to same and save it

Aerial mount nice and discreet with all the gubbins stuck underneath the A pillar trim click to enlarge

Works a treat and cost way under £50 cool

It will display selected stations through the RDS setting, unless your head unit, like the Mii's is so cheap it doesn't have RDS!
Conceal aerial wiring and play through the head unit via the Aux socket.

This one at Amazon as it was by far the best price, might even have been a quid or two less at the time.

If your present head unit has RDS it should flag up the DAB station once it's tuned in to the EasyDab receiver.

You can probably conceal the cables pretty much though in the end I had to drill a small hole out of sight at the back of the centre console to pass the aerial lead through.

Thanks, think I'm going buy one and remove the socket, hardwire and stick to the dash board on my stilo. Means a drill hole but as you say I can hive the Ariel cable aswell.
The stilo car charging port is in a daft position.
