What a weekend it was smile

First time for me at Spa, so a little apprehensive about the whole thing if I'm honest, plus first time for both me and my co pilot Andrew on a track, so we were not exactly too sure of ourselves as we rolled out of the pits heading towards Eau Rouge!!!

But, had a fantastic time, the hotel we stayed in was fantastic, as was the Belgian beer (Kriek - mmmmmmm), Beligan totty was pretty unbelievable as well - and Sunday night I did my best to improve Anglo/Belgian relations as best I could... Giggady wink

Great to see so many Coupe's, especially some lovely 16NA's, and great to meet so many of you, sorry if I got in your way, or if i didnt get a chance to say hello though.

My Coupe, well it performed very well (as a car), not as well on the track however.

After a few laps, the standard pads, on drilled and grooved disks, were seriously overheating, and well, not really working!

A lesson learned me thinks.

I have some awesome pictures which i shall share as soon as I get them all up loaded, including one of me sitting in the yellow Countach!! woohoo

Many thanks to whoever took this one though

Got back this afternoon from Bruges where Dad and I stayed for 2 nights following Spa. It's been an absolutely fantastic weekend with the cars followed by the fantastic city of Bruges.

I participated in the 'Rallye Ballade' (Tourist rarally) on Saturday afternoon at Spa, which I have to say was excellent. We coverered almost 90 miles on the fantastic twisty roads around the circuit, in the company of other cars from the show. It was great to see cars such as an Alfa Guilia, Fiat 126, Ferrari 512BB and Lambo Gallardo all being hustled through the countryside smile Thoroughly recommended!

Quickly after that was my first ever track session. That was also amazing, but also amazingly hard work for me and the car. I went round at a pace which felt fast to me, but was actually very slow because I didn't want risk my daily car with standard suspension, road tyres and fast-road brakes... I didn't mind being overtaken by everyone. The tyres were a bit melted afterwards, so I was glad I didn't push them any harder really. The brakes worked well though, with red-stuff pads and Castrol SRF fluid proving to be worthwhile additions. I video'd the morning session on Sunday from in the car so I will try to upload that soon.

I'll definitely go back next year, but I won't take the Coupe. I should have my super-Cinquecento running before long which will be my track animal laugh

Many thanks to Pete and the others for the organisation, because it was brilliant. Thanks to Marcouzze for organising the buffet meal on Saturday night, which was good fun also. It was a great weekend spent driving fast and drinking lots of beer with great people. Was good to meet up with Trev & Adam et al in Bruges last night too - thanks for a good time guys.

Photos and video to follow,

James

Don't think I stopped laughing for whole 4 days away! What a weekend.
Thanks to everyone who helped organise this, will be there next year for sure as will my brother (Paul) who should be in a coupe by then. laugh

The track was just stunning, I'm in love with it. Eau rouge is genius peice of tarmac, I'm happy with a 110mph entrance speed into it with my standard suspentions setup, although I did see too much of the curb at the top of the hill laugh
It was also good mixing it up with the lambp's and ferrari's among others on the grand parade as long as you didn't get stuck behind the psyhco pace car driver in the fiat 500 laugh

Was great to meet everyone old and new and sorry if I didn't get round to everybody!

I managed to get very drunk indeed on the firday night thanks to magoo and his power wine (thanks magoo thumb ) The worst part was blowing my ring up at 3am next to the tent of a church of england priest who was camping next to us laugh

Got back at 4am after a massive slog trying to get back to the euro tunnel.

Some of you may of met my mate 'Nat' who was in convoy with us for the trip over (Fiat punto)
Well his car's alternator was on its way out and finally gave up on the motorway on the way back in Belgium. One of the funniest things I've ever seen is him kangerooing down the hard shoulder of the A601 at 20mph holding his hand out of the window doing a whipping action and pretending he's on a horse, I later found out he was trying to tell me to get back because he thought his car was gonna blow up laugh laugh laugh

We finally came to rest on an nondescript section of motorway where we had to wait for resue for 4 hrs after being told only one. His car was then taken to a garage in the middle of nowhere.
The car was prenounced dead at the scene and we left it there in favor of a hire car to get back on time for the train. The only problem was the hire car was in Leige so we had to trek back there to pick it up. We packed up his car with all the stuff we didn't need like stinking sleeping bags, tents, camping stoves and off we went.

By the time we arrived in Leige though time wasn't on our side and they company was waiting for a fax to come through from the RAC so we decided in the end to all jump in the coop and made the rest of the journey in 2 hrs laugh

We managed to book the last train back at 23.50...... I could go on laugh

Pics and vids to come soon!

Mart

What will happen to your mates car? Will you get it back? or have you actually just left it?

Glad you all had a good time!

... which is the most annoying thing: seeing Peugeots, Audi's and Chryslers being allowed in for whatever reason. Yuck. laugh
