I think it's an i 10 or something like that, little and basic! If it's the plug seating would the indicators/lights etc work fine? And why would it start when removed altogether?

Also unlike the coupe - replacement sills and front / rear arch panels are readily available although don't know about the quality but it's a decent starter for ten to deal with any rot.

What model are we talking about? My guess would be that the plug just wasn't seated properly first time around if it now starts.

HI I've always been interested in updating the rear lights on the coupe but never found anything that I really liked. Gregs Racing Parts in the US has a great kit that's available for the Lotus range of cars but are just too large to fit the coupe at 120mm Diameter. So neccesity being the mother of invention I decided to make my own. I sourced the Hella LED lights that many have used from Spareto and went ahead modifying them to suit my tastes. I added an outer park light LED ring and kept the indicator lights below.

Nice one Theresa I love GTs - I have 2 currently - one is a spares car but I'm starting to break it. The AA, every tyre shop in the land, and reputable garages will tell you it is fine to jack the sills in the wrong place and then they rust where the paint cracks and the welds split, but the good news is that the metal the sills attach to is really solid. Also the rear struts collapse. This always happens on both sides of every car in close succession. If yours is over 10 years old they may already have been replaced. Diesel engines are bullet proof - mine swallowed 4 swirl flaps - still on original turbo, 190,000 miles, still running well.
Have a look for Alfa Romeo GT owners site UK on Facebook. They're a really friendly and helpful group.

TBH they are a bit weird anway though the coupe isn't too bad. Daughter came home for Easter with a problem on the indicator stalk, it didn't like staying turning right which is understandable as means defying gravity. Surprisingly she had done something about it and purchased a new part, even more surprisingly it was the right one! Though nothing was said it became apparent that it was my job to fit it. Actually it was simple so couldn't complain (too much), just a couple of clips and a scart type plug, simple, all went together and everything worked, though we didn't start it. Next day the car wouldn't start, she suspected the battery which made me think a short somewhere, however as soon as I got home it was apparent it wasn't the battery as car turned over fine but no firing. I took the new stalk out and it fired up first time, bouyed up by this fortuitous success I put the stalk back in and it worked and started fine. No idea what was going on, on a classier car there might be some tamper proof mechanism on the steering column but unlikely on this, any ideas?
