*possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep/oct - 07/04/2008 19:43
As with the last few meets, no.3 was successful and a great laugh.
Looking for ideas on what the next one should be like. Back to the original format of meet up go for a drive have something to eat have another drive?
Or more like this one with the staying over and just a small portion is the drive?
What ya think guys?

Having been to the last two which were both great, this last one was the one I enjoyed most, it's great to meet up, eat, talk coupes, take pics and videos and go for a drive but it kicked off to another level when the evening started
I'd like the same again or similar.
I'll be back

I`d personaly like a bit more driving? makes for some good pic`s and there are sooo many good road`s/view`s around the lakes.
we could also add some sort of extra entertainment, karting, bowling???

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep/oct - 08/04/2008 12:55
what i would suggest is finding a place with more rooms, i dont want a travel lodge or anything.
i would have stopped at whoop hall if i wasn't weighting for checks to clear as i was skit.
there wasn't that option to start off with however. and if i had had a B&B else were i think i would have missed out on the fun just as much

I've posted this link before but
The Damson Dene and it's sister hotel look pretty good.
I've not got time to look into it properly now, but the links there if anyone wants to check out prices, parking , location etc.

Suppose we don't
have to go the Lake District either. We could venture further north to the Trossachs
Beautiful round there, tho I don't know of any big hotels or whats to do other than drive
Or maybe somewhere else
I dunno, some might say 'why change a winning formula'
Anyway i'm off .............. SAP, here we come

Me and Mattw have been chatting about this aswell. I think after 3 meets using the same 2 locations, its probably time to move it to somewhere new.... sometimes its fun to get lost

The only problem with moving the BCM to another location other than the Lakes is it would possibly spoil the nice mix we have of Scottish,Welsh and English Coopsters
.
The Damson Dene looks nice though

Well thats why we need some input. Its not that much further north is kendal.
Ronnie was saying the road from kendal to shap was a great road.
Anyone local any thoughts?

Is there anything on the coast of the lake district by the sea? Everything so far seems to have been focussed on the M6 side...

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep/oct - 08/04/2008 15:30
...unless your name is Samsite999
Anyway, back on subject.. I love the Trossachs and it would be a great place for a meet, but I'm in agreement about trying to keep *roughly* where it is now, for fear of losing the balance of Scottish, Welsh and English fccukers at the meet. I for one would never have been able to do the Trossachs in a day, but the lakes was perfectly okay and so I didn't miss out
Besides which, we only meet like twice a year, don't tell me everyone's bored of the lakes already?!
I'm sure there are plenty of other places/pubs/hotels in the vicinity we can meet up without having to revert back to the Sportsman (not that there's anything wrong with the Sportman btw
)

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep - 08/04/2008 15:46
I think we should keep it either in the lake district or close around the outside to keep the good mix of people, its easily accessible to everyone. It would be good to try some new places though. How about copying what the southies did and get a dent man to come out, I'm sure there will be plenty of coupe doors that need de-creasing...

i agree lakes its got to stay. i was at the limit of how far i was prepared to drive for a day. and i liked the fact it was just up the m6.
Perhaps another pub/hotel yes. but i to fear that if we move more north, or east we would loose the mix we have
If i new were i went the other day when i got lost, i would suggest having a drive up there! Honest to god the roads were lovely. i was down in the dales in some country laned, and then up on the moors were the roard were fast open, and smoth with not a speed camera for miles.
if i hadnt have been in ruch a god auful rush i could have REALY injoyed the drive.
i coverd over 50 miles in 45 minits

ill also add, having a dent removal guy come out to the coupes would be great. he would get very good business and we would perhaps get a discount!

Is there anything on the coast of the lake district by the sea?
To be honest with you, nope! The vast majority of places on the coast are best avoided and there's several of them you would not want to park a coupé in overnight if you had any hopes of having wheels in the morning
Me and Mattw have been chatting about this aswell. I think after 3 meets using the same 2 locations, its probably time to move it to somewhere new.... sometimes its fun to get lost
We were thinking about keswick area?
Ross
I thought Keswick was where the crowd stayed on BM2
Nice roads, but Keswick in September is still very busy.
Bassenthwaite might be good, decent road(s) and scenery.
Ronnie was saying the road from kendal to shap was a great road.
Anyone local any thoughts?
Ross
There are some smashing roads locally in the Lake District and just on the fringes.
Ronnie is spot on when mentions the Kendal-Shap road, and there's a cracker of a road up onto the Alston Moor too, some startlingly tight hairpins etc which will give the steering and suspension a good workout without silly speeds. The view at the top is incredible.
Quite sure we can recce a few more routes before the event between us local owners

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep - 08/04/2008 17:30
We use a dent man regularly at the garage, on custard's car even, and he's local.
I'm sure he would oblige if he has enough notice.
As for routes, there are endless miles of good driving roads round here. In fact, another 10mls past Whoop there is a brilliant road up to a quarry, fantastic scenery and great photo opportunities.
Stan, what about Hartside, from the A69 up to Alston and back the other side to Penrith? Then a quick run to Keswick or lake Bass, back to Carlisle and all park up at the castle for a pose?

Although
HARTSIDE is a great location (it was the venueue for a great North East meet once
pic with some fantastic roads I think it's quite a drive for you Scottish guys. Though it would make a good day out if we were staying in the Lakes for a long weekend.

I dont mind moving further south, that way we may get even more areas involved.I know the guys from North Scotland would have a mare of a journey, but surely a one off around the midlands could be done? Lakes are absolutely spot on,no complaints at all.its just that BarmyBob travelled a long way to be there if we moved south more may do the same!
Just a thought!
Thanks for giving me my Steamer back!!!!

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep - 09/04/2008 00:47
Don't know why we should move from the lakes
The road from Kendal to Shap made me feel like the guy from the Peugeot advert "enjoy" the road.
Kirkton Pass road doesn't seem to lend itself to 30 coupes in a row, especially with the house built in the middle off the road
As for a meeting point and for people staying over we need parking...Keswick never ever again.
If we move it further down south would there be more coupes ?(quantity over quality
)
Uncle Bob and Trisha would travel to the north pole to spread the the story of the "coupe"
Ps. Found a rope in my shed

How about an activity weekend?
Been to
this place in Keswick before and it was very good, rooms are quite basic but the food is excellent.
The Activity & Social weekend looks decent value for 2 nights considering all meals and the Saturday activities are included.
Derwent Hill details As a few have said, the road from Penrith up to Hartside and then across to Alston is superb and probably my all time favourite. Would be good to incorporate a run up here but would need to based close fairly close to minimise the driving for those doing a day trip.
Although I missed the last meet my preferred format for the next one would be a little bit of driving followed by a lot of socialising.

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep - 09/04/2008 01:11
Patterdale or Glenridding may be good spots to look for accomodation?
They are right on the edge of Ullswater on the road between Kirkstone pass and Penrith.
Handy for other areas of the lakes, close to the M6 and The Sportsman, good base for a run up to Hartside/Alston and not too busy like the centre of Keswick.

i think the weather was against us this weekend, sep should be much be better. how many rooms does the whoop have in total?
whoop is ok. i would like another drive across the moor lands, but i don't think it will lend its self well to 20 coupe cars

Re: *possible* big coupe "i'll be back" meet 4-sep - 09/04/2008 05:44
Guys
Just so you are aware
Your
ALL NEW Fiat Coupe Club UK are planning to host an AGM event during early September
The event will be based around either Leeds, York or Sheffield as they are reasonably central to the Southern England and Scotland. Each location is also surrounded by some fine driving routes
It is hoped the event will include some daytime activities, a pre defined driving route (In case the group get split up) and some Evening entertainment.
I did take some prices from the Whoop this weekend but room numbers are quite limited, they were reluctant to discuss any room discounts (Should have had Ross with me) and with the function room added it was also quite expensive
To Avoid taking this post off topic if you have any comments on the above you can make them
HERE Thanks Guys

It's dead from 2nd week september onwards too. I've no preference between either month tho tbh, but we could do with avoiding the october half term for obvious reasons.
BTW here's another vote for Alton Towers. We can all go on Rita and experience first hand what the acceleration is like in Welformed's Coop
