South Meet - Sunday 14 October 2007

Posted By: Anonymous

South Meet - Sunday 14 October 2007 - 09/07/2007 02:27

OK, time to plan the next South meet, as we know that we all need a bit of time to get it on the calendars at home . I'm going to suggest October, so that simonj has time to find himself a Coupe, and to avoid the next SE meet, which is planned for September ;\) .

So, I have two options, Sunday 7th or Sunday 14th October. Any later and we clash with half-term, which is important for those of us with school-age kids! Please use the polling buttons to express your preference(s) \:\) .

If you have any preferences for locations, please post them up, and we can decide that nearer the time.

Are you still guaranteeing good weather ;\)

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 09/07/2007 15:26

Either Or.

I voted for the later just to give more time between the SE meet and it.

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 09/07/2007 16:03

14th for me. May even try to make the SE meet \:\)

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 09/07/2007 16:15

You can vote for both dates if you can make them both ;\) .

JimO - I'm sure that it will be a lovely day for a drive down the M3 \:D !

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 10/07/2007 00:10

I have no real preference but will be just fab to meet other owners of this Sports Car. It is my first Sports Car and as you can imagine am really excited about it and have many plans to mod it.

To meet other enthusiastic owners of the Coupe for a drink, chat and a drive will be very cool indeed. Are we going to have lunch somwhere or should I bring a packed lunch?

Is petrol and expenses paid for?
Posted By: simonj

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 10/07/2007 16:17

Coupe by October? No pressure then \:P I'm away for much of August and Sept, so not as much time to look for one and I still need to save a few more pennies as I'll be keeping the Skoda.

Is this likely to be meeting in Winchester again and then drive to nice pub for lunch? If I am Coupeless, perhaps I could meet you all at Tescos and get a lift in a Coupe on the drive rather than tag along at the back.

I like this idea! Let's have a coupé day out on the club. Personally I think Bobbs and Scooby should make the pack lunches and bring them down. ;\)

I'll post a preference at a later date as I'm not holding my breath that my shift changes will have happened by then. I also have a service, new turbo, FMIC, boost controller, boost gauge and a clutch to fit in around those dates . Hey, will the club cover that too? \:P

Look forward to seeing a new coupé owner joining the south coast massive matt. \:\)

LOL! \:D Anyone would think we're contrary southern softies who couldn't agree on the colour of an orange let alone a date to meet up on. ;\)

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 15/07/2007 20:58

I am really looking forward to the meet now. I really wanna do my Coupe up now for the meet. It still needs lot's of tidying up before the meet and by October it will be fab. I am not going to change it too much as I like the original style, just add a touch of me to it \:\)

Don't get too carried away Matt, we just meet up for a drive and then a pint in the pub ;\) . It really is a low-key event!

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 22/07/2007 02:23

Well we've met up at Winchester a few times, also Horndean (near Portsmouth) and down in the New Forest as well. Which would suit people better? I'm happy to arrange a drive if it is around Winchester, but don't know the roads or pubs in the Forest well enough ;\) .

Phil

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 22/07/2007 20:29

New Forest would be cool.

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 22/07/2007 21:52

crumbs going by the aa route planner, thats a 4 hour drive, 8 hour all round trip. have to give this one a miss guys \:\(

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 22/07/2007 22:04

location is not definate yet i think?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 23/07/2007 00:06

No, but it's never likely to be any further west than Dorchester, so gurly_racer is going to have a long drive whatever happens \:\( .

If it's going to be around the Forest, who's going to organise it then? Any volunteers, otherwise it will be the usual from Winchester \:P !

Phil

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 23/07/2007 00:42

New Forest isn't good for a meet IMO (at least not a drive), 40mph most roads, busy, busy, busy and damned horses everywhere.

Still think the roads north or east of Winchester are the best bet in terms of driving and getting the largest number of people along. \:\)

Winchester would tempt me.

Well I still have a hankering to come and sample the good weather that Phil is offering ;\) so Winchester way would be good for me, but I am happy with the forest too, as I can pop in and see my family in Ringwood.

I've got my new roster and 7th works out better for me, working nights on the 13th & 14th.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 24/07/2007 17:47

I can make either date Phil, but voted for 14th, as I agree with Truffle, it leaves more time between us & the SE meet.

looking forward to it. \:\)

OK, time to resurrect this thread \:D ! At the moment, the 7th isn't looking as good for me, as I may be in North Wales recovering from a track day ay Anglesey on the 6th, but this isn't definite just yet ;\) .

Just wanted to check that there is still interest in meeting up in October, and that the 14th would be OK for most people. Please post whether you would be a definite for the 14th, and I'll get a list going \:\) .

I'm working nights on the 13-14th but if we meet up around 14:30ish I could still work it. ;\)

Looking forward to seeing a yellow coupé up close.

P.S. Has everyone seen the Rolling Road post . \:D

I'll come to either date.I'm in Southampton so no biggie whether Winchester or New Forest.
Mind you I scraped all my side up reversing into my new drive, had a respray and the colour doesn't match so its no show piece.

No NO! The 7th is MUCH better. ;\) \:P
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: South Meet - October 2007 - 11/09/2007 01:41

OK, I am now free on the 7th as well as the 14th, but seeing as there seems to be a good turnout if we go for the 14th, I think we'll stick with that (sorry Webbo & 007, maybe next time ;\) ).

Seeing as nobody has come forward with any other options, I suggest meeting at Winchester Tescos car park (just off M3 J9) and then we'll go the The Bear & Ragged Staff again using the cross-country route that seemed so popular last time \:\/ !

List so far
Me
kbs133
byrdman
Faz (if the weather is good \:P )
Gazza2509
burdy1967
petep
Truffle
JimO (if I can guarantee sunshine \:D !)
Mark_K
dean19
flyyellow9
Webbo

I want to book it in for a full service and suspension/steering overhaul, problem is i dont know exactly when the student loan is going to appear in my account (last year it was the 10th) so it may be a case of booking the car in for the Friday (12th) and hoping that the funds appear in my account \:o

The weather's not looking fantastic \:\( , but hopefully the Hampshire back roads will make up for it \:D !

I'll hopefully be there too, am checking if Edz will be out of bed in time to come down too.

I'll be bringing the video camera and mount (courtesy of Fishy_Dave) as requested by my bro, Webbo.

Hopefully get some decent weather and video!

Despite getting horrifically drunk last night i made it up to Tescos to meet everyone for a little while, its a shame couldnt have come on the drive but work was a-callin'.

Great to meet you all anyway, what a friendly bunch of Coopsters \:D

Good meet today. Thanks for sorting Phil \:\)

I had a nice blast back to London, lots of people wanted to play ;\)

Great turn out for a south meet, apart from the lazy gits who stayed in bed all day \:\) \:\)

Actually all the meets I attend have rubbish weather, the freezing one at bluewater, the wet one this year, maybe it is me °\( \:\(

Although was also cracking weather in Surrey yesterday, so I was pimping around in my topless alfa, note I say in my topless car and not topless in my car \:s

The southern meet goes from strength to strength! Really enjoyed it yesterday, and free drinks at the pub \:# !

Got some good video footage so when I get round to compressing and uploading it I will put it in a secure area and PM the password to you guys. After that if there are no objections I will remove the password for open access. Not sure what you can see in the videos yet as the cam ran out of batteries when downloading °\(

Re: South Meet - 14 October 2007 - 15/10/2007 13:38

I was really annoyed I could't make it but a dodgy curry the night before prevented me from attending °\( .

Sounds like a good meet and the weather stayed nice for you too. The roads are very nice around that area. \:\/

What's this about free drinks in the pub then?!

Re: South Meet - 14 October 2007 - 15/10/2007 14:15

They charged me for nosh but not the drinks \:\)

I was feeling exceptionally generous so I gave Phil a pound cash-back to share in the spoils \:D

Great meeting guys, really enjoyed myself; & it proved to be a great cure for a hangover too. Thanks for making the arrangements Phil.

Nice to be chauffeur driven this time, I was itching to get behind the wheel; but it’s just not worth the risk is it?

And great to be part of the convoy too; - right up until we left Tescos car park!

Gary.

My shouting and excitement certainly woke the missus and youngster up! \:D

Re: South Meet - Sunday 14 October 2007 - 17/10/2007 04:05

I don't know of any pics, but as we speak I'm trying to convert the videos that were taken from my camcorder in Webbo's car into something manageable for YouTube or similar.

The main movie is only 11 minutes long but weighs in at 737MB!

Another great meet, I must say, cheers Phil!

Re: South Meet - Sunday 14 October 2007 - 18/10/2007 01:06

OK, well I've managed to squeeze the file size down to 100MB, so acceptable for YouTube, but it's still a bit long at 11 minutes, so it's over to my bro for him to display some fine editing skills...

Re: South Meet - Sunday 14 October 2007 - 18/10/2007 02:03

Its uploading as we speak... \:\)

I can't set it to private because there are other pictures in my account that need to be visible for a How-To guide etc. The quality is compressed enough that no plates are visible. However, if anybody has an objection to it I will remove it immediately.

Oh yeah and its large, >60MB sorry! Come to think of it this might be a late night.... \:D
