New Proper South Meet Thread

Well i have a rear windscreen and the car is running ok (except for the clutch slip) so there should be no more whining from me about postponing it, so its time to decide:

When:
Where:
Who:
How:

When; I'm off work for the weekend of 17-18 March.
Where; Don't care too much.
Who; Everyone/anyone who can fit an PA FMIC . Phil!
How; With the right tools.

17/18 March sounds good to me.

I believe the previous venues suggested were:
World's End, Almer
or
Horton Inn, Wimborne

Makes no real difference to me, just looking forward to meeting up with everybody.

17th is St. Patricks Day, and 18th is Mothering Sunday, so this may not prove to be the best weekend for a few people . It would probably be more than my life is worth to say that I was available on the Sunday , but may be able to make the Saturday .

If you like, I will bring along the trusty Sykes Pickavant code reader and check everyone's errors and throttle cables, if you'd like. Who knows, a few of you may well go home with more power/torque than when you arrived !

I see we are having the usual problems in organising a south meet again ! Any more thoughts on an alternative date to 17/18th?

How about the weekend after Easter (14th/15th April)? I know it seems a way off, but Easter gets in the way, and I expect most people will have family commitments around then. (Sorry if that means you miss it pfoe, but I'm sure you'll be having a 'nice' time wherever you are !)

Just a bump really, is anything happening on the 14th/15th? I'll be back in the country by then, living near Bournemouth and should have a new car (probably diesel-powered). I would pop along for a Coupe fix

I can do April 14/15 (or any other w/e for that matter), but I'll probably be in a courtesy car that weekend, whilst mine is being fixed.

Still looking forward to meeting up for a chat, hopefully we can make this meet happen at long last.

Saturday day might be a problem for me unless i have alot of warning to sort shifts out etc

TBH, I would prefer the Sunday, as I was rather hoping to fit my newly refurbed rear calipers and new handbrake cables on the Saturday .

OK so it's Sunday the 22nd at an undisclosed location in the Bournemouth Area.

Sadly i dont know the roads well enough to come up with a route, or the pubs well enough to come up with a venue.

I would prefer the southampton side of bournemouth if possible. Whats the A35 like around christchurch?

How about somewhere in the New Forest? There are plenty of pubs with sizeable car parks, and it might just be early enough in the season for them not to be too full . The only trouble will be the 40mph limits on pretty much all of the roads .

There's been Coupe meets at the Alice Lisle near Ringwood in the past.

The High Corner Inn also has a decent car park (if down a stony lane) - both are on the edge of the Forest and near non-40mph roads.

I'd be a probable if someone wants to organise - you can all laugh at my diesel Skoda Labia

I dont know the roads down there but I am up for this location, good suggestion simon. Both the A31 and A338 are dual carriageways in the area and there will be some nice parts of the new forest for a warm down and some good pubs.

I'll pop along if there are going to be people there - the Alice Lisle is only 10 mins from me, but then again I don't have a Coupe (anymore).

Any other takers from prominent southern Coupsters who've been to meets in the past - Ady, Julian, Paul etc.?

I should be OK for the 22nd if there is enough interest, although I'm out all day on the Saturday, so my pass may be time limited . I would prefer to get there a little later (say 1.45pm), so could join you all for a drink if you wanted to meet up a little earlier for a bite to eat .

Just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to meet you all yesterday, & thanks for making a ‘newbie’ feel so welcome.

I really enjoyed the chat, & learned so much in such a short time; - shame I forgot to take any photos, or look closely at anyone else’s car!

We are very poor at organising meets. If we start trying to sort something now we may even manage to get together in May/June time…………………….

How about the beginning of June or would earlier be better?

For me the second week of June onwards would be best as it would be after my Uni year has finished.

In a new twist i'm gonna try and set a date now (rather than ask for ideas) and see if we can keep to it.

Are you sure that 7 weeks is enough for us lot to get that organised ! I'm in sunny Spain for the two weeks prior to the 10th June, so you guys would have to do all the organising and I can just turn up (if I'm allowed !).

Well, she said she enjoyed meeting everybody & that she'd be happy to come again, - but next time she'll bring a folding chair & a book apparently For those techie-talk moments I suppose

June 10th is good for me too at the moment. And it leaves just enough time before the big SE meet, which I'd also like to attend, & that seems to be taking place on either 24th June or 1st July.

Agreed it should be near Phil's next time.

Was that someone volunteering ! Happy to have it around my area, but bear in mind that I am not around for the two weeks beforehand, so I'll have to make a route up on the day if you choose a venue to meet and a pub for a drink .

Can I suggest that rather than the usual Tesco's car park, we go up/down market and use the Halfords one which is straight across the Tesco roundabout, first right into Moorside Road and then first right again. It's just a lot quieter and more befitting a car meet ! Pubs could be a problem, as any with car parks tend to be busy .
