18/05/14 - Yorkshire - Modified Car Show

Evening all!

I just thought i'd let you know about a car show happening in Sherburn-in-Elmet (North Yorkshire) on Sunday 18/05/14. I only found out about it today, but will be going along as it's only down the road from me.

About the show;

This custom modified car show is primarily a paying tribute to the late Andy Harrison aged just 37 whom tragically passed away following a fatal motorcycle accident in May 2013 and also to show our grateful appreciation for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. The show will hold many features such as:

*4-Class Show & Shine competitions (with trophies).
*Emergency services displays.
*Variety of car clubs attending.
*Great raffle prizes to be won.
*Special guest appearances - Mark Dixon (Eddie Stobart) & Mike Newman (Blind land speed record holder).

Yea, i think it'll be a decent day, looks like there is going to be a good turn out!

There is currently a flypast planned by a Battle of Britain Dakota too, hopefully a few more planes will turn up too!

Ok, well it will be best to get tickets beforehand as then the price is £5. We should be able to park together too?

You need to get there between 8:00 - 09:15 if you want to park in the show areas. This is what I'm planning on doing!

Just a quick heads up. There is a yearly custom / modified car show held at Sherburn in Elmet Aeroclub near Leeds. This years event is on 18th May and some big names. Richard Hammond, Chris Evans, world blind land speed record holder.

I am working that day and will have a police armed response BMW X5 with some bits and pieces on show. If you are going drop by and say hi.

Apparently Linda (the organiser ) has spoken to Richard Hammond and was going to try and get in touch with Chris Evans. So not sure if anything has actually come of that. Have a read of this article in The Selby Times.

The latest is that she thinks Ayrton Senna's and/or Nigel Mansell's car should be able to make an appearance!

Anybody thinking of trying to get a club stand together?

Well I sent an entry form in yesterday and said there could potentially be 3 of us going from the Fiat Coupe club.

So if others want to come we could meet at mine first then head over, it will be £5 at the gate. I only live 5 mins down the road, if that!

I'm definitely going. And if the weather is ok, my work collegue will be coming in his newly restored V8 Triumph Stag.

And if the weather does turns out nice i'm planning on going out for a blast later in the afternoon with my mate in his 911 4S.

I am, I'll try and get a v12 jag along with the coupe, failing that a Saab 900 hot.
What's your plans?

Well I was planning on meeting at mine beforehand, then going to the show in convoy as I only live 5 minutes away. But i'm now thinking that might not be fair on the neighbours, a load of noisy cars meeting early on a Sunday morning might cause a few grumbles! So depending on how many of us there are all think of somewhere to meet.


The show opens to the public at 10:00.

Set up is from 08:00 to 09:15, so we could aim to get there for 09:00.

I have applied for an area for FCCUK, so we need to go in convoy and the first one there pays for us all (£5 a car).

I'll be there, did you have any thoughts on a place to meet ?

We'll just meet at mine beforehand, it'll be the easiest option. If there really are 1000 cars turning up I can imagine it being fairly manic in the morning.

So should we aim to meet at mine at 08:30, then we can make our way over when we are ready?

The show looks like it will be a good one, they now have a drift team turning up to perform a demo. The weather is looking great too!

Yea it was a good day out! The show was actually really good considering it's the first time it's taken place! Great to meet some new faces too!

I didn't think at the time but we should have all gone for a drink at Squires Cafe Bar. I went with my mate at about 14:30 and it seemed like quite a few cars from the show were stopping off here. We're remember for next year!
