Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 04/04/2008 21:46

Ive never been to santa pod but i would imagine it is like it, but on a bit of a smaller scale-ie not as big spectator stands, or as many facilities.
Price wise i 'think' it is £10 to get in and then another £25 to run your motor. Its a decent day out, good variety of motors. Never see any coop's tho!

thanks mate will see what i'm workin is there going to be a meeting place?

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 04/04/2008 22:44

Well ill be travelling over from Leeds at around 9am, but to be honest its probably best just to meet up there-its basically a big old paddock but its very easy to spot other cars, and on other occasions when ive been there, there hasn't been that many motors

Works a little like santa pod but cars run in groups so you should always be racing a car in the same group. Idea is that you dont race a Nova 1.1 with a nescafe exhaust but equally you don't get to have a beating off a 600bhp skyline.

The only difference is the surface on the track its a little like off road drag racing and the return road has ruts in it \:D

It's a good little track and its never anywhere near as busy as the pod so 20 runs a day are easily achieved if you get there for 8.30 - 9am and stay till they close.

Best tip if you want to do loads of runs is hang on until later in the day as loads of people go home about 3ish. Last year after 3 we were just doing a run driving back down, watching 2 cars launch and having another go. Got a bit boring after a while.

Remember you will need a helmet, loan ones are available but they are totally gross as they have been worn by other people for years and your skin will crawl.

If anyone needs a helmet, i have a spare one. Size XL (i have a big head)

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 11/04/2008 21:13

I'll try and come over - it's the wife's birthday tomorrow and we're out on the night, so depending on how late we get in will determine this... would love to come though.

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 11/04/2008 21:17

Just checked the weather forecast and its down as heavy showers for sunday. I reckon that a lot people will knock it on the head, which means that if anyone comes they'll get loads of runs, hopefully a few dry ones

Are you running Matt?

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 12/04/2008 04:32

Yeah im running. i will be there at 10am ish. I think that the RWYB starts at 10 till about 11 and then what usually happens is that all the motors get splt into classes and basically run against other cars in their class. I normally end up against skylines, MR2's, cosworths and many other turbo motors. (to put in perspective i'm normally in the middle of the class and i run 260bhp)
Then at the end of the day(around 4pm) it turns into RWYB again and u can race anything.
If nothing else its just a good excuse to give the coop some beens-dont feel like there owt to prove, just have a laugh!
I was a bit reluctant when i started this-but just think about all the little dick heads in their corsas and stuff. No one in a coop will be embarassed!

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 12/04/2008 22:40

Sounds interesting, never been to a drag event before.

If i dont make it to this one, let me know of any others you go to and compete.
Something i would like to see, especially with a coupe, and especially a green one!

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 13/04/2008 22:49

Well this was a total wash out. Waste of a day, couldnt get any power down at all, was aqua planing all the way up, and struggling to stop at the end-the abs was going mental.
Think i ran in the 17s, but was hoping for around 13.9 if it was dry.
Met up with TimC-nice of you to turn up fella, sorry about the weather, hopefully we'll be able to sort out another event, a dryer one.

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 13/04/2008 23:12

Hey Matt, good to meet you and put a face to a 'username'. \:\) As you say, shame about the weather, but still a good way to pass the time..

Got your second run here, the quality didn't come out great, I think you were right about 17.4, which isn't surprising with amount of wheelspin due to the torrential track conditions, anybody not in an Impreza, Evo or this would struggle.

Looked a fairly decent lineup, usual japanese invasion, but I was really looking forward to the AMG E63 merc having a blat against that Monaro but it looked like they didn't want to risk it under the conditions, can't blame them.

Got a few pics here, but difficult to take many...

Mitsu 3000
Impreza's
Shame this didn't happen
Front lineup
Viva Espana
Trucking 'ell

Did a little bit of research on The Royal Nail after seeing it completely obliterate an Evo FQ 320, seems as though it's got a 400BHP cossie engine with Escort Cosworth running gear.... it was simply awesome.

Anyway good to meet you, I'll definately be there again, on a dry day hopefully ;\)

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 13/04/2008 23:19

Just watch that video, and indeed it looked very wet.

Thats wasnt the coupe i could hear was it? sounded like one, but unsure it was yours.

And the Royal Nail, has been on PH I think.

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 14/04/2008 00:22

Brilliant pics and video tim, thanks very much for that. Had the potential to be a good day, there were a few interesting motors about, shame it rained really. Never mind-when its dry ill show you what the coop can do!

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 14/04/2008 01:00

was there anything on at elvington today? i wouldn't mind giving it a try sometime.
Id say i went to about 1/2 of all the events there-the next one is on, on the 4th may and it is a 0-60 shootout, which should be really good-I'm going to the nurburgring 4 days after that though so im not sure if it would be a good idea to go really

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 14/04/2008 03:01

a video that my mate took, at this point the track was so wet that they cut the racing down to just 1/8th mile because everyone was aqua planing

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 15/04/2008 02:24

Just looking back at the 2 vids Matt, you did pretty well off the line, obviously you hit wheelspin at high revs but impressive considering the weather \:\/

Re: York Raceway 13th April 2008 - 15/04/2008 21:08

Yeah that golf was bloody quick,he had a higher terminal speed than me, i only won cos i got a good start. Mods wise i have K&N air filter, superchip, bailey DV, de-cat stainless exhaust, fuel pump wiring mod, turbo with 360 degree bearing(not sure if that makes any difference to power). koni adjustable suspension kit, 3g discs, mintew 1144 pads.
