Fast Road Pads

Fast Road Pads - 05/08/2023 21:35

Hi Guys,
I'm contemplating changing the front brake pads on my 20v Turbo Plus and wanted to get some personal experience feedback on various fast road pads.

The car is currently running the front brakes installed by Nigel ie Brembo floating discs and Pagid RS29 pads.

This setup is probably perfect for what Nigel was doing ie multiple high speed stops in succession and track day outings, but I'm only doing spirited road driving so I feel that the pads probably arent getting to their optimum heat range.

I'm unlikely to be tracking the car so would like to optimise the pads for brake response from cold and spirited road use only (albeit 500 HP road use!).

From my research:
Brembo HP Sport Performance (HP2000) looks like a good fit for fast road use.I
Ferodo DS Performance similar to Brembo HP?
Pagid Street+ (not sure if this is available for the Coupe?)?
Pagid RS14 maybe too track focused?

Brembo Sport are fine, good bite from cold and I haven't made them fade.

I use the pfc z rated pads, ok from cold but with a bit of heat they are great. No noise and about a £150 a set

Cheers Jamie

Good to get some real life feedback smile

There are quite a few poor user reviews on the web regarding the Brembo pads, but I think a lot of them might actually refer to the Brembo OEM range of pads rather than the superior Sport Performance (HP2000) range.

Also I suspect that many users dont follow the precise 20 - 30 stop bedding in sequence required, or are maybe using them with poor quality discs?

Most of the positive reviews were by users who were putting them on more expensive cars, so they were probably more careful with the bedding in procedure and/or fitted the new pads together with the higher spec Brembo Sport discs.

Given that I have Brembo calipers and floating discs I would hope that the Sport pads will be a good match for a fast daily driver.

I will keep the Pagid RS29 pads as backup if I need to take it to the track cool

Hi Simon

I swear by Pagid pads - they have a decent range to cope with most demands. If you're looking for a bit more bite at 'normal' speeds, I'd suggest looking at Pagid 'Blue' (I think they were called RS 4-2, or something similar)

Speak with Bremsen Technic in North Yorkshire - Steve Liversedge was the guy I dealt with, but that was quite a few years ago. 01748 830909

EDIT - have a look at the sticky I wrote fifteen (!!) years ago about the Pagid range - https://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/603459/pagid-pad-types#Post603459

I had several sets of Pagid Blues - very good, but they became very expensive. I think the Brembo HP2000 are a good alternative for road use. Bremsen Technik no longer deal direct with the public, but you can find a list of their stockists here:

Several of them stock both Brembo & Pagid, so choose whichever you prefer.

Looking at the Pagid Racing website they seem to have renamed their pads. The RS29 pads you installed are now called RSL29.

There is no RS4.2 listed, but maybe the RS42 is the replacement?
