BMW M2 Next car to replace Coupe20vt? - 29/03/2023 13:25

As anyone who lives in London knows the ULEZ is coming un 29th of August which means my 20vt will have to come off the road as i am not paying £12.50 to drive on the road per day on top of road tax . I will take both Coupes off the road and keep them Luckily i have space for 5 cars at my house . 2 in the garage and 3 on the drive . So i need to replacement . I love my Coupe 10th one i have owned since 2002 and would continue on driving for years to come . So i have only one car in mind and my budget can go to a 2016/17 non competition BMW M2 . Has anyone had any experiences with theses or owned one or test driven one .I have looked at lots of YouTube road tests but would like feedback from a owner on here if any . I would only be using the car locally not heavy mileage and as ride my motorbike most places . Thoughts

Just be aware that modern BMW’s aren’t as reliable as they used to be. I had a 116d as a company car from 2016-2018 and in those two years and 42,000 miles it had three faults. First one boot wouldn’t lock so whole car was unlocked, dealer replaced boot lock. Second one drivers door wouldn’t lock again whole car was unlocked, traced to a wiring fault in the door. Third one was a leaking oil seal on the output from gearbox to rear diff. My previous company car was an Alfa Mito 1.3 Diesel and in four years and 84,000 miles not one fault.

I don't own an M2, but I do own a 2016 MY Series 2 Coupe 220D XDrive, Auto. I have owned it for 3 years. The only fault has been a software issue with the audio / satnav which was fixed under dealer warranty. Otherwise it has been perfect....(clutches lucky rabbit's foot). Not used any oil between services. There is no dipstick so I rely on the sensor to tell me if a top up is needed. It has never happened.

I live in Somerset and am often found on the M5 & M4 off to visit family north of London. It's a great mile muncher. Comfortable, economical and probably the 'easiest' car to drive I have owned. Just point and shoot driving.

Obviously it does not have the M2 power, but at 190bhp with plenty of torque it is fast enough for me. Interior space is good enough for 4 adults. Boot is large enough for luggage for a trip. Interior fixtures and fittings are of a high quality.

Have you thought about a 240i? Not quite as muscular looking as the M2 but still 335bhp. If you have any particular questions feel free to send me a PM. Good luck with the hunt!

I have seen on YouTube great reviews on the 240i . But i like the look of the M2 and its the only BMW i would own .

The 240i is a fine alternative and regularly received great reviews. Oddly because the engine is different from the M2 they remap to a higher power approx 430bhp. Birds to well received handling modifications.

Unsure if by the time you add that up it’s less than an M2 however.
