New business (flame suit at the ready)

After a lot of research and consideration, we are adding a new bolt-on to our business: remapping.

Right from the start, I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to pretend I'm any kind of Flea.

What we are doing is a simple service replacing existing standard maps with those supplied by a reputable (and insured) specialist. I'm well aware that every man and his slammed VW Caddy are offering remaps these days, but, as with our other businesses, this is IMI approved and is as much about improving economy as increasing performance; something that should suit our existing customer base.

Once we're up and running, we are thinking of getting a fun but inexpensive car to showcase what a remap can do and I'm open to suggestions.

Not surprisingly, I'm looking mostly at turbo models, with a Mk1 TT 225 currently popular...

What do you reckon?

Same engine (if memory serves) and it can take remapping very well indeed.

Best of all, the Mk1 is cheaper than chips at the moment!

However, if want to really show what a remap does, how about buying a couple of Octavia TDi's? Leave one in standard tune and have them both as demo, before and after style?

By the way, if you thought about that route be careful, you want/need the ones with the engine code ASV. It has oil cooling jets for the piston skirts so it can really take a fair amount of tuning trickery without complaining.

I do know a wee bit about this, Mrs Stan ran a Leon TDi, which looked bog standard, but had the ASV remapped to the MAX, and was still going strong at 275000 miles before it was parked up for a repair that I'll get around to one day, and it wasn't an engine fault.

Thanks Stan, we loved your idea of buying 2 cars for comparison. However, as we've now got a combined fleet of 7 (8 if step-daughter is home) at our house, it might be a squeeze!
Good shout on the vRS, but I think the TT is still ahead by a (rounded) nose.
