£2500 Surely not - 22/07/2008 13:46

Hi

Just about to insure my new car,

I have 2 years no claims, I have been driving 2 years, clean license, B24 postcode, last year my car was a 16VT

The cheapest quote I have had so far is £2500 third party from Adrian Flux.

The spec is as follows.

20VT
GT28RS
FMIC
Greddy Boost Control
Full Stainless
SIP
18 Inch wheels
Lowered
Full Zender
Tints

Looking at other peoples quotes I am wondering why mine is so high,

What do you guys think ?

Regards

or hope that you dont have to pay your/thier legal fees if someone sues you for whiplash or worse......

How much does life care cost....

Re: £2500 Surely not - 22/07/2008 13:55

I'm guessing it's because you are around 21 and with only a few years of driving under your belt. I'm suprised that you can get insurance at all at that age on a modded car.....I'd be suprised if you could find it cheaper anywhere else.

Greenlight, Noel Dazely, Chris Knott (and quote Fiat forum)

Did you not think to check you could insure it for a sensible amount before buying / modding?

Re: £2500 Surely not - 22/07/2008 14:09

Sorry forgot to add, I am 29 this year, home owner, 2 kids own business.

Looking through quotes listed here there are people much younger than me with similar mods getting quoted for less than half of what I have.

I have contacted Noel Dazely who are to phone me back.

Not declaring mods is not an option,

Re: £2500 Surely not - 22/07/2008 15:38

For some reason Adrian Flux is a strange one. Got a quote from them for £1400 when greenlight could do £600+ for me. When i asked AF on why the rediculous price and they said something about the coupe not being on their 'favourable list'?? \:\?
Was insured with Noel Dazely last year for about £700+. Still waiting for their renewal quote.

Re: £2500 Surely not - 22/07/2008 15:46

Noel Dazely said the opposite.

The Coupe and this Forum were favoured cars and customers.

Just waiting on Green light now and if it is no cheaper Noel Dazelt here we come,

Regards

Noel Dazely £1389. 30% Deposit £120 per month after.

Greenlight £1197 (great quote)but require payment in full \:\(

Will try Chris Knott

Do ND offer a discount to club members - suggest dropping petep or mattb a PM to ask? If it's a few % certainly worth the £25 to join if not already a club member \:\)

I don't know Brum, but I assume you don't live in an insurance-friendly postcode

Re: £2500 Surely not - 17/08/2008 02:32

Theres prob little point in me posting here at all but as everyone ignored my insurance quote post I'm gonna throw my tuppence worth in anyway. That a silly amount at your age. N Ireland has notouriously high insurance premiums supposedly coz whiplash here gets you buckets more than anywhere else, and i'd imagine other personal injury claims or the same. I'll mention them again coz I've mentioned them before and never got any feed back...Tesco's and directline. In my experience they cant be beat and both will match eachother.
Ok so I'm 41, but i'm divorced so prob higher risk...my car sits on the street and its covered for business class use and we have less insurance companies available to us...look out for the not available in northern ireland small print...its everywhere. All of the major insurance supermarket sites are bound to be able to beat that...unless of course 40 really is that magic number

If I were to ponder things too much I'd be inclined to think adrian flux was sponsoring this forum ....but far be it from me to even suggest such a thing \:D ok so its a big smiley but only coz there aint a drunk smiley rollin about the floor in his own little world

Re: £2500 Surely not - 17/08/2008 10:02

being an old git is OK when insurance is concerned ;\) i,m about £300 f/c 10yrs+ covered etc \:D but that's a different story....insurance companies are a funny lot when it comes to mods add/ons. some take the view that modding is a good thing because the car owner takes pride in his vehicle & therefor will take great care ;\) other companies wont entertain you at all :(..but one thing that most of us don't take into account is the area that we live in, i mean up here in the sticks is a far cry from crowded cities down south \:o maybe i,m pointing out the obvious here. the young team don't exactly have a choice, its a matter of pay up \:o again that's another story, but 29, well its not old, but its not that young either for insurance purposes

Re: £2500 Surely not - 17/08/2008 10:44

well.... a problem this is for me too!

I'm 22, with 4 yrs no claims. Insuring a 20 v turbo, the best ive found is about 1400 3rd party.

Fully comp, the best option to do is increase the excess to the maximum. The cheapest ive found then was admiral via moneysupermarket.com.

With a grand excess (yes a 1000 pounds!) it's a premium of 1250.
But in my opinion, if you want to get fully comp it's best to go for a policy with a huge excess and just be careful!

goconfused/moneysupermarket/gocompare are the best 3

Re: £2500 Surely not - 17/08/2008 14:55

I think certain postcodes in Birmingham, Manchester, certain parts of London and probably other urban areas mean that a coupe is fairly uninsurable (from my perspective this means around and over £1500) for the under 25s (especially men), especially if parked on the street \:\(

Re: £2500 Surely not - 18/08/2008 08:33

Put your mum on as a named driver, always works (so long as she's been driving for a fair time and has no claims) try it now!

Elephant is good too

Re: £2500 Surely not - 18/08/2008 08:39

Thats crazy, I'm 23 with 3 years no claims, PE6 postcode

Fully comp with European cover: £900! (Elephant)

My old insurers on my bravo (Churchill) wouldn't insure me on the coupe until I'm 25 so I lost my 7 months worth of no claims and had to start it again. grrr!

Re: £2500 Surely not - 18/08/2008 12:16

Try Elephant they beat every quote that i had even from the likes of Adrian Flux ect, and they gave me an extra years NCB just for going with them.
£370 16VT with mods fully comp and young driver/ newish licence i.e the wife on there, but i am old.

Re: £2500 Surely not - 19/08/2008 02:31

i'm drunk again..well i'm on holiday but the postcode lottery jimboy is something i prob haven't factored in. The scum that steal cars prob wouldn't operate in my area coz u dont sh it in your own back yard. And as my budget tyre post highlighted I do know how to drive the cost of most things down...but £2500 thats just takin the proverbial in anyones books unless ur 18 yrs of age
