£1600 sounds about right given your history and age...which model is that for?...most insurers won't cover youngsters on a 20vt I think
Could try Noel Dazely, Adrian Flux, HIC or Greenlight (google for details)

Even higher for the turbo then

I aways found the 16vt cheaper to insure than the 20v n/a, older car I guess...and the 16v n/a cheaper still

Good one I assume you've alreay added your mum as a named driver (if not and she has a good driving history, do it as it should bring the price down - of course, she never has to drive it)

...but do make sure you have enough cash as well to cover the maintenace costs - I've seen figures of a grand per year mentioned here (on top of the purchase price of course)

I thought our resident insurance expert (Thats H2ypr, if you don't recognise him from my description) told us all that you couldn't get insurance on a 20vt until your were 21.

HHhhmmm, maybe he doesn't know alot about insurance after all

lol

...how on earth do people afford £1600+ a year for insurance, let alone 19 year olds (unless they are dotcom millionnaires or professional footballers)

What annoys me is my first car insurance cost me £1,400 at the tender age of 17, but it was for an Orion 1.6L - i dread to think of the cost for a coupe insurance back in those days - and they were making coops in those days - nearly
