Checking out best Classic insurer for modded 20VT - mature driver, instalments desirable
Recommendations? 10k miles desirable - are there any power thresholds that these insurers get excited over for the Coop?
I cant see too many relaxing easily over 350bhp?

I paid my Footman James classic policy by a deposit & 10x monthly installments
then again that's going back to 2008/9 - may have changed their T&C's by now..?
Give them a try - they were by far the cheapest too for me

I'm with Neil Willies. They were £300 cheaper than Adrian Flux.
They require a 30% deposit upfront and the remainder comes out in 3 equal monthly installments in the following months.

Adrian Flux are a rip-off compared to the likes of Neil Willies & Footman James,
They started out cheap, when I started using them in the early 00's
They built up a good performance/mod friendly reputation & customer base, with good quotes then their prices have now seemed to go balistic (well it did with my last quote anyway)

I changed from Footman James to Neil Willies last year, now in my second year of cover from them. There was no comparison in price or service, the main reasons why coopists are changing to them
*no commission was paid to me for the above recommendation #1*
#1 - yet

Thanks Dan,
Forget the 'yet', no commission paid. Not paid to me so why should we pay to you!! LOL
Griffster, if you are doing 10,000 miles a year this would fall outside of the normal realms of 'classic car insurance' as these are usually aimed at vehicles doing no more than 5000 a year for second/third cars not used as your eveyday car or at least not doing everyday mileage. Dependant on information the insurers may relax this slightly, but unfortunately not doing 10,000 miles.
What you are asking for in the eyes of an insurance company is a standard private car policy and therefore you may struggle to insure a vastly modded coupe on one of these.
Give me a call on 0800 542 0672 or 01527 857611 and I will be happy to look for quotations for you and discuss the various options we have available.

I found Flux a little difficult to deal with and expensive, will try Neil as soon as bank balance hits critical mass and allows me to get my own Coop
from what Neil says above I can possible get 6 or 7k mls as second car for modified example (300-350bhp)

Not true - I'm with Footman James and I have declared all mods (true not many though!)
They have also given me a £2500 agreed value (after alot of form-filling & sending photos in)
£286 per year
Had to pay in 3 installments (or full premium) - they don't do Monthly installments anymore
I only do 5000 miles per year anyway - even in one car
so it's perfect for me. Living less than 4 miles from work helps!
The last quote I had of Flux was ballistic
- I don't even phone them anymore

Re: Insuring Modded 20VT - Who is Best Classic Insurer - 29/06/2012 10:53
Flux were still the cheapest for me, although Neil Willies got very close.
However, despite being over the age of 50 and living in a relatively low-risk postcode, the premium was still well over £600, probably due to the level of mods and the mileage (double the stock bhp and 30,000 miles a year, including business use)

Re: Insuring Modded 20VT - Who is Best Classic Insurer - 02/07/2012 15:30
Flux cheapest for me also, £430.....
Just beat Neil Willies BUT clincher was I'm allowed to drive other cars with 3rd party cover whereas this is not possible with NW!
My policy with Flux is limited to 4000 miles, I am 32 with 9 yrs NCB!

Just renewed and flux came out tops on price, service and 3rd party cover, which I don't intend to use but always nice to have.

I took out my third Comp. policy with Flux on my very recently acquired Coupe 20VT valued at £1300, midly warmed over by flea, stainless back box and decat., lowered, <5K miles, aged 59 - £225.43 before extras. With Personal Accident, Keycare and Flux Rescue - £309.43. Very reasonable, IMO.
