Another what's it worth with a difference - 14/02/2011 13:06

Just got back from visiting family in Scotland (Edinburgh) and my finacée's uncle is letting go of his car collection! Amongst his collection is an energy green 20v, with 39k on the clock, he's owned it from new and it has been extremely well looked after and hardly used.

I had a good look around it at the weekend, it's not mint (by my standards but not far off) as the front bumper will need some paint (of which he might sort out before he sells it) but other than that it's like new inside (cloth not leather and the body work and paint is like new.

As soon as I get some pics i'll post them up, just wanted to put the feelers out on what you guys think it's worth?

Thanks, Mr C

2k?

What time related maintenance has been done - belts, suspension etc?

Still waiting for the details on maintenance, can't imagine the suspension has been touched due to it's limited use. Mr C

How old is the beast? Too many questions to give an opinion, but if she has been regularly maintained in spite of lack of use £2K is a serious underestimate.

The problem could be that a new buyer needs to replace brakes (and possibly pipes), clutch, belts, tyres, a full service etc., etc.. This could come to another £2 - 3K. Having said this, once any work has been done it will be a brilliant car thumb !

Good luck, Tim

Its a 20v though and they normally go for c.£1k don't they. A 100% uplift would be quite good.

I understand that we need more info on the car regarding it's maintenance, I'm working on it! smile

The car has been on the road since new and has been garaged all its life ( mot'd and tax'd every year). The car is an R reg 1997.

I was thinking around 2.5k to 3k as there aren't many 20v coupe's in this original condition.

He also has an old mini 1275 GT (1974) with 12k on the clock and a MG Midget with 14k on the clock and more. smile

Dont think energy green was an option until 1999. I might be wrong though.

I would say the 20v is worth what someone may be prepared to pay. I'm firmly of the belief that a car is better off getting use, as a car standing up covering little mileage will still be perishing, all that ageing rubber and fluids bot circulating properly will lead to problems when/if the car is ever used in earnest.

Cars are made to drive, if they were art, they'd be framed and put on a wall. As they are not, it's scandalous to let them sit up for so long cry

I feel for the mini and midget.

I agree with what you're saying Dan, I think the coop is one of those cars that does need to be driven on a daily basis. I know what mine is like after i've not driven it for a week and a half.

but, that isn't the mindset of most of the people on this forum or buyers who think that a low mileage coop (hardly driven) is going to be better than a regularly drive, high mileage one.

I'd rather have a well looked after carb with low miles than a well looked after car with high miles.

With certain reasonable limits, that seems like common sense to me.
