newbie looking to buy this - 18/11/2008 21:07

Hi all,

Great to know there is a forum for the coupe, lots of good info.
I am looking to buy a 20v turbo, I have looked in the buying guide. Is there anything I should know, looking for a 1999 with less than 60,000.
Was thinking about this one:

Any thoughts.???

Hello & welcome

The car looks great in the pictures. However there is no mention of a cambelt change. This is around £450 at a specialist.

Other things which it does not mention are but are known possible failures which have been repaired could include, wishbones, clutch, ticking from cold indicating a cracked exhaust manifold and turbo seals (smoking from exhaust).

Don't let this list put you off ownership though! There are plenty out there which are mint, mileage isn't always an issue, regular maintenance is much more important!

Have you looked at the buyers guide?

The sound the car makes is quite unique and I'm been an owner a year and have no intention of selling up! \:#

Enjoy the forum

Thanks for the replies.
How much is a cam belt and tensioners. I am quite capable of fitting them myself.

£3.5k in the current climate? So that one seems reasonable!

yep, looks ok. dubious on the mileage claim, but it could be someone who never drives their car and spends lots of cash doing it up. apparently they are out there...

colour not too great though eh vickster?

hahaha one of the 8 . . . lets not turn this into the other thread. Simon welcome to the forum, take your time when buying a coupe. I made a rash decision and brought the first one i saw. . excitement took over. Bad move . . . luckily my dad is in the trade otherwise it would have cost me an an arm and leg to get it to the state it is now!
best of luck! and everyone is here to advise so dont hesitate to ask!
