£3k VIS, 44k miles

£3k VIS

One owner, 44k miles from new. 500 miles in last 4 years.

And yep, predictably no cambelt change in it's 12 years. (72k miles says the dealer, it's only done 44k). Sigh.

As much as I'd like to see it worth the money, I just can't justify it.

The hunt goes on!

Hehe, one phonecall and it's instantly down to £2k cash. Give it time...

Re: £3k VIS, 44k miles - 23/06/2011 16:56

Meh, my old NA had done 74k before its first cambelt! shocked

£2k cash is a pretty good price if its in as good nick as it looks in the pictures.

Doubt you could haggle anymore down from there though.

Did you ever go and look at my old broomer then Dan?

Not yellow, or green.

Is that an energy green VIS?

Pass.

I thought the energy green's were the lighter ones? confused

Yeah, Energy green. With that mileage the bodywork ought to be spotless, and if it is then it might just be worth 2k... But would still need a cambelt. If it had leather then I might say 2k isn't too much.

our European neighbours must be rolling their eyes at our discussing whether a 1 owner 44k mile 12 year old VIS is worth £2k even!

But I agree, it's got to be spotless and the lack of leather is a negative as far as I'm concerned...

I think we need to be more positive and big-up the value of our 'appreciating classics' smile

£2k + say £500 for belts, £100 for tidy leather, so all in a low mileage VIS with everything done for £2.6K

Not too shabby.

No one in their right mind would pay that!

I paid £800 for my 20VT from a customer of ours and its pretty much there, just needs a new manifold. It had over £3000 spent on it in the last two years too.

Gorgeous cars don't get me wrong, but Italian cars depreciate like no other, I should know I have 5..

If it was only £800 then it must look and drive like a shed then.

No, I don't buy Sheds.

I'm a mechanic at an Italian Car Specialist, I know my stuff.

That's a brave statement, I'm sure the forum will pass judgement in due course, after your post count increases, not sure it will keep pace with your ego though? wink laugh

So £800 + £3000 + new manifold @ £££'s = circa £5k

Hardly the bargain of the century then.

I assume the £3k was spent before he paid £800 for the car. I'd say that was quite a bargain?

I didn't mean to come across like that, if you're good at your job then you don't need to prove yourself. That's all.

Firstly, a manifold is not going to cost £1200.

Secondly, I purchased the car after the customer had paid £3000 over a two year period.

We have looked after the car for over 6 years now so I know its full history and the quality of work that has been carried out on it.

Indeed-o. Here is comes.

rolleyes

Honest guys, what's the cost for putting an engine in a Coupe that's gone pop? Say 2-3k with an engine out of another Coupe that's gone bang? Then to say you can get a much better engine - presumably - that comes with all aux bit attached (ie a WHOLE car) is just plain stupid.

I suggest emigrating quickly, the entire UK economy will collapse within 10 years. Or there are just too many Coupe's around. wink
