Wiring new HU, HELP!! - 26/10/2006 04:53

Hi Guys,

I have bought my self a jvc kd-dv4202 and wanted to know how easy is it to wire it up please?
I have never done it before and a bit of a techno fob. If I can save £30 and do it myself I want to.
All help gratefully received!

Yeah you can do it! I am hopeless with ICE, to the point where I've paid someone else to do it in the past. However I've recently wired in a JVC head unit all by meself
You might be lucky, there might be an ISO connector on the HU and your coop, in which case you just connect them and you're done!

As Sir Pinin points out it should be a straight swap as the standard unit is ISO compliant, so the plugs and wiring are the same.

The hardest part is normally getting the Standard clarion unit out without making a mess or the centre console. If it is proving difficult it may be easier to remove the centre console so you can get access to the release pins. Have a look in the How to section as there are some good guides and it is not a tough job but you do have to be gentle with Fiat interior plastics

To be honest if you are messing about with power and not sure what you are doing I would get an auto electrician to do it. A fire in the cabin is always bad news

It should not cost much, there may be someone on the forum willing to help, where do you live?

Ahhha, there are two leads for power on your iso loom. One is ignition on (i believe) and the other perm 12v. On some iso looms these are bullet connecters and the loom is designed so they can be changed in 30secs to enable it to turn off when the ignition goes off. Sure someone will be able to explain better!

I found a great way to remove the old Clarion unit.

- Leave your car on a secluded country lane with the fascia in.

- When you return to your vehicle, a kind pikey will have efficiently removed the old unit for you, leaving a gaping hole and two plugs for ease of fitting the new stereo.

(Be sure to offset the £60 glass insurance excess against the cost of a decent auto-electrician first)

Edited to add: Just thought I'd mention that I now have an electrical fault that blows my lights and instruments if I play the new stereo. Worth having a think about before trying this method out
