1.8 16v NA flat battery

Hi all,

I've got a second hand (no red key) 1.8 16v NA (non-turbo) model, and due to the cold weather here now I have a flat battery. Tried starting it with jump cables, but that didn't work out.

My question is, when I get a new battery, am I to expect problems with the immobilizer when replacing the battery ?

You shouldn't, but in some rare cases it indeed can cause a problem. Make sure to connect + first and then -.

Where are you located? Jump starting most of the time doesn't work because of the bad quality of cheap cables. Try using a diesel car to jump start, switch off any lights - radio - aircon, with the engine running on the diesel, wait a minute or so after switching on your Coupe and only then try starting it.

Don't forget if you have some friends around, you can also push-start it. Contact on, push down the road, second gear, clutch depressed, then when your friends are up to speed dump the clutch and if you hear the car is trying to start give it a slight bit of throttle.

I tried with diesel car, exactly as described, with everything off. Unfortunately, due to the snow, ice and the general area the car is parked, push-start is not possible.

I'll get а new battery and try to exchange them, while keeping the (+) connected (mechanic advice).

The name sounds Slavic

If you leave the jump cables connected for 20mins or so with the other cars engine running, even with poor quality thin cables you should eventually charge your battery enough to start it.

or you can reve the other car a little bit so the alternator delivers "more juice" and then I'm positive you'll be able to star the coupe

Thanks all for the help, that was already tried (30+ min to a big diesel car (bigger battery), revved up, etc.. to no success.

We've changed the battery today with a new one (63Ah 610A) (while keeping a (+) connected at all times) and the car started immediately, without any problems with the immobilizer.

Old battery showed 1.2 V, the mechanic said there was no chance jump-starting it.
