Wide-body kit - madness or not?

Wide-body kit - madness or not? - 17/04/2008 17:36

Hello to everybody from Russia.

We have small Coupe Club here, got everything interesting from AutoDS, and now I'm thinking about Wide-body styling.

What do you guys think about it? Any good examples?
Or it's just another way to make things very-very bad??? \:\/

I think one of Mariousz's (AutoDS) friends made a widebody kit. It was a very good attempt if it hadnt of been ruined by comedy rear light surrounds (imagine baked bean cans) and the fact that he had quad exit exhuasts, of which only 1 was real so again it ended up more of a funny car than a good attempt.

slightly exagerating the coupes natural curves could be a good thing, it would cost a fortune to do it right though

I thought the stance given to the coop by the wide-arch kit made it look EVIL, it was awsome!

As Truffle says though the lights, exhausts, bonnet and various other things ruined it \:\(

I guess you didn't see the build pictures for that coupe then Cowboy, that is a wide body kit, its just been done well (not that I like it, I just appreciate the engineering). See it parked next to another coupe and you'll see the difference.

I was always in awe of that wide-body Coupe - the engineering is just amazing.

A couple of details aren't right (exhausts, tail-lights and angle of the rear bumper extension) but its mostly a superb job

Not convinced? Work out how he made the bonnet fit the new wider track - its probably one of the best executed body changes I've ever seen. AND its still instantly reconisable as a Coupe.

The rear shot with the standard Coupe next to it shows how well its been done (and how muscular it looks with the wide track and bulging arches)

On a rare ocasion does an OTT kit look soo soooo good!!

Only the tail light surrounds need to be ommitted and the rediculous ferrari badges are draggin it down...

Why are people so ashamed of their FIAT?

Other than that really nice yoke!

Is any wide arch kit available RIGHT NOW for the fiat? Can't wait to get one fitted to my 20vt

that coupe looks alrite actually not bad at all! get rid of the ferrari badge and the nasa rocket thrusters at the back and thats a blooming nice car!

Always been curious about a wide-body kit, though more for the wider track for handling than the looks! Square on at the back, that looks superb. The narrower roof makes it look much more like a supercar. But he's done far too much, tinkered too much and fuct up the look overall, imo. Good effort on the slashes tho. Maybe should've painted them... something like silver. ;\)

It's too tall to look right at that width for me, but still looks like a great job. It needs RWD more than ever like that though...

I'm not a massive fan of that coop but the work that must of gone into that is amazing.

If it had a few less ostentetious features such as the lights, exhausts, silver pillars and the 2 tone colour it would look lovely. Also, bringing the doors inline with the rest of the body so the 'original' lines could be maintained would make it \:# but I'm guessing moving the doors/hinges would be tad difficult.

Re: Wide-body kit - madness or not? - 07/10/2008 12:18

I think you'd just make them fatter, rather than moving them on the hinges. If you did that they wouldnt line up with the windows.

Re: Wide-body kit - madness or not? - 07/10/2008 12:30

If you just made them fatter wouldn't they foul on the bonnet and the panel below the bonnet when the door is opened? You'd have to have a special hinge or have a door that doesn't open very far. The top part of the door (i.e. windows) would have to stay where it is.

Not if you made those fatter as well, leaving room for the fatter doors to open. \:P

That wide coupe is horrible and most likely slow as fcuk too.

Its a Fiat Coupe not a Ferrari F50 ffs.
