17"s .......or..........18"s - 17/02/2006 05:55

Im looking for a new set of wheels but im not sure what size to go for 17" or 18" i dont want the wheels rubbing on the arches on full lock or any other probs, just be nice to do a straight swap with my standard 20vt wheels. anybody have first hand experiance they can share with me please. also whats the best tyre size to fit on both size wheels, thanks in advance

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 17/02/2006 06:09

Not sure which is better size wise but if you go for 17" then the tyre size is 215/40 or 215/45 17. 225/40 17 would be the ideal but this tyre size is not really available

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 17/02/2006 07:38

Ive just fitted a kit and it some how makes my 17's look soo small. If you are considering lowering as well go for 18's as they do look good. However if you don't want rubbing or any other problems 17's would suit you better.

17's everytime - 18's tyres are so much more - plus a crashier ride. Finally potholes will be the bain of your life although this also comes into play with 17's!

they are wolfrace urbanracer 7's in 18". they are 4x100 so you'll need wobblies, i think you'll need spacers!

I think these wheels have been replaced by 'Wolfrace Street racers' the only difference IIRC is that the streetracers have a centre cap covering the wheel bolts but are only available up to 17"

I wanted a set of black urban racers but couldnt find any

Only the 18's in the urban racers are a straight fit. The 17's will neeed spacers and longer wobbly bolts.

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 27/02/2006 05:16

Sorry man no chance I can see a Vauxhall wheel fitting the Coupe, but I do know my brother sold alloys from his Alfa 145 that fitted my mates Mk4 Astra so PCDs must be the same.

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 28/02/2006 17:54

Personally I can't see an issue with the physical fittment of 19's or maybe even 20's. Arch gaps seem pretty big on the Coupe, even on my 18's there's plenty of room, (lowered 35mm).

Only thing would be rolling radius being out, which is gonna affect your speedo.

For me if you're choosing between 17' and 18's, 18's would be my choice. I went from the standard rims, to 18's and found the ride to be well within my tolerance for comfort. And I reckon you'll always be wanting something slightly larger if you plumped for 17's.

Ross speak to Alex at Motorsport wheels in Glasgow, 0141 6433900. They deal with BBS and will be able to get the wobbly bolts for you.

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 01/03/2006 01:00

Ah thats it, must of got confused, isnt the MK2 Astra GTE 45? I know they aint the same as the rest of Vauxhalls

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 01/03/2006 04:52

Yes they are 49mm, but no way will the BBS wheels be the same. I would imagine they will be 42mm max.
Posted By: Begbie

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 01/03/2006 15:01

Also if they are multi-drilled are they normal bolts to hold the wheel on, or is it studs and nuts? If its the latter you wont get them to fit as they cant be made the same as a wobble bolt
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 01/03/2006 23:31

Its bolts as far as im aware!!!! Also i think ur wrong with ur statement cause i had wheels that fitted my corsa (bolts) and put them on my rover (studs and nuts) and it went on perfectly!

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 01/03/2006 23:52

Thats because Vauxhall use 4 * 100 PCD, as does Rover.

Do you use 225 or 215?
Is it possible to use additional spacer at the rear axle with these alloys?

Thanks a lot

Re: 17"s .......or..........18"s - 03/03/2006 22:59

i use 215/40 atm which dont rub but will be fitting 225/35 shortly.

dont know about the spacers but i wouldent recommend them with wobbly bolts.

U can get longer wobbly bolts, which work with spacers!
