Replacement Number plate lights?

Replacement Number plate lights? - 27/02/2016 14:56

One of the bulbs has blown, took it out to fit a replacement and various bits of plastic fell on the floor. Those bits are the ones that anchor electrical connector for one end of the bulb. So I need a complete new light, anyone found any LED replacements or know what the part number is?

I ended up using a combination of zip ties and super glue. But some new ones would be better.

I've got two coming right now, but I didn't realise they were in transit from Poland.
It's been a few days already...

Hi, have just received a pair of these. Both lenses would not fit into their respective rubber housings
as the female connectors were too long, have had to bend them considerably so as to fit,
has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Replacement Number plate lights? - 25/04/2016 12:45

Hey ucoupia,

Yes, I don't believe it- I have found exactly the same thing!

I have just received mine this morning and have been fighting them to get them to go together the way I would like.

In fact, I did such a good job- I broke one! So I've had to remove the metal contact from the broken side and drill the hole present in the bend to allow it to take an M3 panhead. Then I have bolted the contact back in and epoxy'ed it for good measure.

The bolt would slip out and the epoxy will soften with the heat...

Hangon- there's more; you need to shave a this corner off on the inside of the lens

Does anybody know in how to achieve a brighter head light as I’m struggling to see the road at night (my eyesight is fine) I have replaced the head light bulbs from 55w H1 to 100W H1 this has improved it slightly, I know there is a HID XENON conversion but I just want a straight swap, I was considering using 130w H1 bulbs but I think this will melt the surrounding plastic and you need a bigger fuse, any ideas?

What's the condition of your headlight lenses? They can get pretty opaque.

Hi dante giacosa, i broke mine as well bending the terminal
so i will be experimenting with the super glue too.
I turned the lens 180 degrees and didn`t have to trim it,
looks like they are in for some double trouble feedback, i think ?

Re: Replacement Number plate lights? - 27/04/2016 20:39

Not sure what's going on here?
Are you not receiving them already assembled? I could understand if dimension wise they did not fit as a whole to the car, but not fitting to corresponding parts is odd! Is my understanding of what you saying. But they will fit with a 'careful' tweek?

Even new they still delicate, so bending etc you need to be obviously light handed.
Super glue is not ideal, but you should not have to be doing this!

What a disaster. Only suggested it as they were like for like, the ones I got.
So, don't buy these as there seems to be problems.

Re: Replacement Number plate lights? - 28/04/2016 13:35

The ones i received were in plastic bags that had been ripped open to remove the lights. The lenses were not fitted in the rubber casing because the connectors were fouling on the inside of the casing. I suspect they had been returned once and the seller just posted them off to the next unsuspecting sap( me ) that bought them. Of course i meant an epoxy adhesive and not super glue.

But the good news in this sorry Polish saga is that they do fit in the bumper.

Re: Replacement Number plate lights? - 28/04/2016 14:07

Hey Ucoupia,

not sure why I didn't try the lenses the other way up? I suspect I must have- I spent a whole morning getting them right, so I'm not sure why I didn't get that to work?

However- indeed- they come with the 'key' at one end in the rubber, to fit them into the cutout in the bumper. So they DO work.

P.S. they do NOT come with lamps...

P.P.S. Perhaps now is the time to reveal that I didn't put mine 'in' the bumper- I put 'em behind...

Good isn't it?

Even smarter when the number plate is back on - better balanced.

Do you think it would be as effective on the broomy as on the darker colours?

Re: Replacement Number plate lights? - 29/04/2016 14:09

What?

The rubbing compound, or the headtorch?

You need the torch as a point source light to see how the swirls are deteriorating...

Otherwise, with daylight, you don't know where you are...
