Sprint Blue 20vt T641 DLX - 20/02/2024 20:21

Hello,

I've seen T641 DLX for sale on a well known auction site and wondered if anyone on here is the seller or knows of the car?

It last had it's cambelt changed in 2006 so is desperately in need of replacement.

Apart from that it looks okay from the photos. I know this isn't a great gauge. I thought I'd ask here first as I don't want to waste a day and a 200 mile round trip to view something that needs a ton of work.

TIA

Jon

So he's asking £7500 but the cambelt needs renewing, Infinity tyres and new suspension but didn't renew the front top mounts which are 25yrs old.... chinny

It looks a clean and tidy car. The MOT history shows it's been very low usage for the past 15 years or so. But some of the bits in the ad as work done recently seem to be common advisories on the MOT for the last few years.

I've been searching classifieds myself to see if my car is worth recommissioning and it caught my eye. Question for you is the cost. That's a top price for a 20VT that isn't a plus or LE. You'd need to do belts and service plus that rear bumper looks to want replacing over the exhaust. You could quite comfortably get to 9K by the time you've done a few bits. Does that matter to you?

Maybe it'd be worth giving the seller a call and asking a list of questions around work done and for specific videos of areas such as sills and boot seam where they rust. If it's genuinely rust free then it'd be worth pursuing in my opinion

I doubt that would see £9k return with the market the way it is, and at present it's not worth the asking price just because it looks shiny and low mileage because I bet it's not as clean underneath, it's too perfect imo.

Best advice with this example is have it professionally inspected.

Morning.

Many thanks for your input. I agree.

There are other things in addition to the timing belt that the car needs.

The seller says that the AC works but may need a re-gas. That is a worry as it's a relatively cheap fix and then the AC can be seen working on a test drive.

Also, the alarm doesn’t work, but the factory immobiliser works. The car is locked using the key but the central locking doesn’t work on the passenger door. There's also no red key for the car.

The car is low mileage, but that's mainly because it's not been road worthy for 10 of its 25 years.

It's a shame as it looks nice, but I'm going to pass on this.

Jon, that's the possibly the best advice for buying any car. If it does not feel right then walk away.

Have you thought about buying a shed? It could be the other way to go. You could buy something needing work, but at a lower cost.

Nah, a do-er upper would be a stretch of my capabilities I think. I do like to get involved with cars, but I also know my limitations.

Thanks for thinking of this option though.

I'm not in a mad rush and I am happy to wait for the right car.

Morning Jon,

I'm not a million miles away from you so if you wanted to come and have a bit of a poke around one to get an idea of what to look for I'm happy for you to do that- mines not for sale but is in need of a few bits doing (belts etc) but happily go through the bits that are not quite right with mine... Might help you get a good idea of things to look for / questions to ask etc...
