New Euro rules to discourage older cars

New Euro rules to discourage older cars - 08/02/2024 19:37

Ok, the UK is out of the EEC, but it's pretty certain that anything that happens in Euroland will happen in the UK at much the same time if only for compatibility.

It should be noted that this proposal is as yet just a proposal, is not yet ratified, and yet contains some vague and very worrying phrasing. I suggest reading the article linked here: https://euroweeklynews.com/2024/01/12/eus-controversial-car-laws-vs-repairing-older-vehicles/

I haven't yet been able to find the original document.

Note: there isn't a coupe out there that's less than twenty years old...

Neil

Edit: this is a little more hopeful: https://environment.ec.europa.eu/to...-vehicles-regulation-details-proposal_en

'Fear' on the one hand and 'calm down' on the other frown

They will if you can't get the spare parts!

Well the odd thing is is that this is all being discussed at the same time as right-to-repair.

Presumably they're in a different boardroom.

From the parts manufacturers documentation I have seen they are already planning for the scheduled withdrawal of vehicle parts, the plans are already baked in as part of their discussions with the EU and upwards wrt Nutzero.

Thoughts of Cuba come to mind.

For some reason it feels like the older members of this forum; can't get spare parts, won't be told what to do, in need of of gaffa tape....but carry on regardless

V8 marine motors squeezed in to cars was always the one that stuck in my mind.

This latest UN/EU guff is more to do with phasing out key body parts and plastic components making vehicles 'BER' before 15 years. Personally I don't think this is an issue with the Coupe - we're already there rolleyes

We need to complain to the powers that be, whoever you feel that is appropriate to you.
The main stream media, the political parties. The AA, etc, etc.

They all rely on our vote or our money.

Woke is taking over, some of it because we roll over a let it happen.

Yesterday, some looney countryside group stated that the countryside is racist.
A woman from Newcastle was banned from going to watch Newcastle United, because she wrote something on line about 'trans gender'.
Last year Starmer was accepting that women may have willies.

Write to your MP, its easy. They will be desperate for your vote shortly.

End of rant.

Beautiful sunny day today.
