Finally got around to installing the short shifter in my plus. Was a pretty easy job, i took a few photos just to clear things up for potential future coupe owners
Full run down for the totally alfa short shifter;
1) Remove battery and battery drip tray, (see workshop manual/screenshot provided) There may be some stuff attached to the drip tray. Just remember to replace it all correctly.
2) Pry off the shifter linkage socket from the ball joint with a 13mm spanner.
3) Remove the counterweight with a 13mm spanner by removing the bolt on top
3.5) (ONLY FOR TOTALLYALFA SHORT SHIFTER) Shave off some of the counterweight for clearance issues, i used an angle grinder and a dremel, as well as a fresh coat of primer and black paint to help with corrosion prevention.
4) Replace the Counterweight ensuring it sits flush properly, with the corresponding “locater nub” seated in its complementary part of the counterweight.
5) Place the short shifter over the counterweights threaded bolt and over the shifter linkage ball (apply grease), make sure the unit is firmly in place and won’t just fall off. Apply some sort of locktight to the thread of the counterweight and thread the bolt back on, also ensuring it’s on tight and won’t wiggle off after driving.
6) Place the Shifter socket into the short shifter ball, apply grease and ensure it’s snapped into place correctly.
7) Refit the battery tray and battery (Do everything in reverse
)
Easy
Remember all mods to your coupe are at your own discretion and i’m not a mechanic so it all could be completely wrong, but my coupe is still alive!… for now.
