Kumho and Nexen tyres

Kumho and Nexen tyres - 06/09/2022 07:54

My coupe is going to be in need of a couple of new tyres on the rear. I'm no speed merchant nor will I be doing any track days. Does anyone have either Kumho or Nexen tyres on their car? If so, what are your thoughts about them?

Many thanks.

I have Kumho Ecsta HS51 and found them great. I choose them based on reviews at the time rating them as the most comfortable tyre (presumably due to softer sidewall) so they likely wouldn't be ideal for trackdays. Not sure about wet performance either as I only use the coupe in the dry, but as far as comfort, wear and dry grip they seem very good.

My Coupe had 225/45-16 Nexen N6000s when I bought it. Were genuinely surprised at the levels of grip. Before buying I figured I’d just change them for something better, but ended up wearing them out. Lasted a few years, going through ~2500 miles each summer, so wear probably could have been better. And they tracked quite a lot.

I’m on 205/55-16 Michelin PS4 now, and I think they enhances much of the Coupes GT qualities. Very comfortable, predictable, quiet and grippy. And no rubbing. Very pleased.

Thanks for the feedback. Probably going with Kumho tyres from EuroPit in Busy St Edmunds. Had great service from them a few eeks ago so will be using them again.

Nexen N8000 on all four corners. Never looked back on the horrific Falkens before. Tread pattern similar to Conti Contact Sport. Had them on for circa 2000 miles and been great in damp / wet and dry conditions. Cannot recommend them enough.

Got Toyo T1s and Falkens on my NA at the moment. Seem fine in the wet.

Well, I have 225/45/17 Falkens all round - dry weather superb road-holding, although a bit harsh! When they went on10 years ago it seemed a great idea, but then I was 10 years younger then too.

Amazingly the tyres are good after all this time, although I will say that the Coupe was stored in perfect conditions for 6 years, they have only covered about 1500 miles, so pretty much full tread. They were inspected this year and passed as ok, but they will be changed for next year whatever.

I seem to remember them being fine in the wet, but as we haven't had any rain since April (bar two days this week), can't say if they still are. I probably will still only use the car on fine days over winter - shame, but no point in getting it wet if I don't have to.

I have Toyo T1's all around - with the fronts being the newer improved tyre brought out last year.

The newer tyre "feels" a bit better then the previous pair. Quieter, less harsh and bit more bite in the dry. I guess I'm a bit tyre-bi-curious and wonder what other tyres feel like...as T1's are all I've known on the car due to ease of obtaining them.

I have Yokohamas advan on all corners 225 45 16. This was the only tyre I could get up here in that size more for the wider look smile. In the dry they are superb very good in the wet as well. Pricey but worth it.

We had those on our MX5. They were specially for the MX5 and were fantastic, until we came to replace them and the price was astronomical. So I think we chucked some Toyos on.

Just to add something else into the mix, i have been using Dunlop Sport RT Maxx tyres, had them on the standard alloys but i now have them on the Azev's, the tyres are brilliant in wet & dry & personally, i think they are very good value for money.
