finally snapped today, im about another problem away from breaking or selling it all and getting something cheep and cheerful and German
not once have i been able to drive the car in the manner i wanted to because of the slipping clutch, which is booked in to be done this week, as soon as i get close to a situation were i can enjoy the car another problem kicks up, this time its a wiring issue. not a problem you say! well it is when you dont have the time, expertease or have any one that even wants to look at the problem for you
also not helped my maplins fuses that dont fuse! so i suspect the problem is worse that in started out with now.
to top the last few days of missiry off after walking around like a cripple, waking up in pain, going to sleep in pain (i shouldnt be cralling under cars and upside down in footwells) i now have to go out and buy a new fridge as ours went pop last night and no longer works
it seams like everything i touch of late turns to dust
sorry for the rant, i have no one else to rant too

Yep mine would eat fuses (the one that takes out all the lights but luckily you can still listen to the radio...) for no reason. I endeD up buying a couple of bags of each value and always keep them in the glove box. Since buying them it's not blown one fuse!

Don't worry mate, I go through times like you are talking about. It will all look diffrent when you have a break from it , calm down and enjoy your self and go back to it on a diffrent day.
My guess is somewere along the line one of the privous owners have not maintained it or even neglected it. Everything is going wrong at the same time on you, but once you get on top of it and look after it like I think you would it will be fime. There is only so much that can go wrong if you keep fixing it, so maybe it can only get better if you know what I mean.

i think there are lots of us who are like this. i have had enough trouble from my car trust me and i should have never got involed and i keep fixing it on the hope that now i have spent a fortune on it and massive of time replacing everything on the car it won't break. it still breaks but i have just got used to it. one day i will learn

i was going to take it for a health check today (until i found out the spring has snapped) as it smokes when first starts up (was going for a compression test and a leak test) might just be the turbo seal (again), if the pistons have gone its going straight to the scrap yard as i have spend thousands on it and enough is enough! (quite fancy an le though) lol

are you honestly thinking about scraping it?
the only reason its crossed my mind is the 500 quid service bill ill be looking at this month, the unknown amount of money it will take some one who knows what he is doing to resolve the loom issue the 2 new tiers it needs and all the body work to make it look nice
is it worth fixing? it probbaly is and more than likely its the anger and disapoitment talking at the moment. i say im thinking about it, weather i could hand the keys over and watch it be taken away...thats a different question
besides which....there isnt honestly another car that i want

when i fix my car I don't look at it whether its worth it or not! I bought my LE 18months ago for £6800. By the time the engine is all done and mapped I will have spent over £5k on that and I'm also going to get a respray later this year so another £2k. So getting close to £15k for a car which would probably fetch around £5k?? I do it because its my hobby and I love the car.

yeah, honestly. just one problem, after another.. i can afford it (i have a £500 budget a month for it)
health check (com and leak teast), say £20/£30. if its the piston seal, scrap yard.. end of! so if its the turbo, 1k. (am not buying a secondhand one, been there done that) new tyres, for two £110 springs, if i get them.. free! fitting them £40 i think the clutch is on its way out (fitted last year)so thats around another £600 inc fitting

i know you will never getm your money back and its not easy but i am starting to like my car more now/ i think with any performance car unless your untra rich you have to relise it will take all your money and cause heart ache. it really boils down to how much you like the car and how much it means to you.
i have worked out that i want 3 cars in my life a powerful luxury wagon like a merc ml or range rover. a sports car like that i cherish and a mk2 jag is perfect white with red leather and with over drive. i want it so i can cange the luxury badge when its worn out but the other two will always stay with me. im jut working out if the coop is special enough

its not specail enough then mate. the car isn't specail because it can do 160mph i have had cars that will hit 1878mph and the most specail car i have ever owned still only managed 130mph! mk1 escort
everycar i have had rapes my wallet dry but again i love them enough to do it even if i can't afford it or it pains me to pay out.
again its not specail if you just think its a 1997 car. my mk1 escort was 1973 lol still the most specail car to date i have ever owned.
i think a german car with a half good engine is best for you if you want a reliable quick car.

I've thrown the thick end of fifteen hundred quid at the coupe this week (as well as a couple of hundred at the other cars!) - any votes on what a 16NA with 150k miles and a cat C is worth?

barnacle though you love your coop and have had it for years. the reason you spend the money is because the car is you pride and joy. you don't care about its power or anything and that makes a special car. the fact you hit 160mph does mean anything on the way you feel for your car.
