Just for note...i know its bad to diss other people and companies but i wouldnt touch Angel Tuning with a barge pole again after the problems i had with 2 of my cars after they re mapped them. I'm glad someone who actually knows what there doing is putting out chips like this, well done Flea, is i had a non VIS then id fit it without a seconds thought.

I'm one.

Chip arrived very quickly and well packaged*
Installed in less than ten minutes, no issues, just the standard reminder to be very careful and look at the orientation of the old chip (notch in the corner). Easy.

First day I could only give the car a quick 20-mile test on damp roads. The chip "seemed" to make a difference and there was certainly something different happening in 3rd and 4th but I thought I needed to do a fair few more miles and preferably in the dry before I could comment on the forum.

Today the proper testing took place. Impressive!

First thing I noticed was trolling through a local stretch of 40mph road, I'd inadvertently left the coupé in 5th gear (as I would in the turbodiesel I usually drive) instead of 4th gear for the pick up at the end of the speed restriction. The car still picked up niftily, and certainly better than before thanks to the extra torque.

3rd gear is now even more magical than before, and the chip in combination with the cam variator at 4k rpm is wonderful! Example: Vectra (twin exhaust job?) with the bored sales rep at the helm was sitting on my rear bumper as we went from a 40mph limit to a 70mph limit. 3rd gear engaged, 4k rpm dialled in and he was a dot in my mirror, despite me only hitting 70mph.

Motorway flexibility is greatly improved, you know the score, you're pootling along and some geriatric nugget in a 1.0 litre Micra has the cheek to enter the "coupé lane"? In the past, even with the revs sitting above 3k rpm, the coupé seemed breathless as she picked up speed again. Not any more!

Fuel economy? Don't know yet but there is a good test coming up soon, an identical 400mile round trip. The last time it was done, a few weeks ago, I achieved 31mpg with a few playful cam variator accelerations, so I'll report back on what the chip achieves.

Would I recommend a chip from Flea? Hell yes! It's a bargain! Trust me, I have always been decidedly underwhelmed by the performance of the 20v NA. Bear in mind I am used to driving stuff which is a bit nippier but I still expected this car to perform better than it did when it was standard. Thanks to Flea's hard work, the car is now beginning to feel more like it should have done when it left the factory. As someone else has already said in this thread, what on earth do you have to lose? If you really don't believe me or Flea and you don't believe the chip makes a difference you can always Ebay it and lose very little for the experiment. Or you can go back to driving a 1.0 litre Micra! laugh

Oh, just one other point, insurance. It has cost me a mere £15/year to add the chip as a modification. The gain in driveability and torque makes that a small price to pay.

Now, all you 20v NA owners, what the heck are you doing still reading this? You should be bombarding Flea with orders!

Mine arrived yesterday, very quick well done Leighton, as Stan says doddle to fit just watch the orientation. Straight away there is a difference, the car used to be a bit rough on first start of the day, now purrs, the pick up through the gears is a lot smoother agree with Stan about 3rd & 4th. Initial feelings, well worth £45 quid the Coupe feels like she should have done, can't wait to fit the Cybox and K&N.

Well done Flea.

Interesting that John has mentioned the noise at idle. I'd said this in a PM to someone, that somehow the car sounds more "5 pot-like" if that makes any sense? It just seems to have a deeper rumble, but I'd dismissed it as being the placebo effect. Now that someone else has mentioned it, it suggests I wasn't hearing things!

ok, fitted new chip over the weekend (very carefully!), no real problems though, and realistically only took about half an hour to do.
took car out for a blast afterwards and was pleasantly suprised with the results.
low end torque is a lot better, 40mph in 4th out of a limit up to 70 is much improved, no hesitation just a nice surge.
dont know about redline as i never really thrash my coop that hard.
idle, and first start in the morning is better as well, cannot say that mine ever really made a lot of noise or ran rough exactly, but took a few minutes to settle down i suppose is fair to say.
now, it seems to purr from the word go, and i have to say, after being unsure of what i had really bought to begin with, the fc chip is £45 well spent.
if only everything coop was so rewarding, after getting home from work tonight discovered a bastard nail in my front right tyre!
this is only about a fortnight after having to replace the front left, and to make matters worse, it is just before i am about to buy some new rims and tyres from sean!!!

thumbs up though flea

well done

NO you weren't imagining it. I fitted the chip this morning, drove off down the road thinking "ya know, sommat sounds different". I found a nice empty long straight piece of road, pulled over to a complete stop and then TOOK OFF! When I used to hit 3rd gear there was always a bit of hesitation before the acceleration kicked back in, not now though. Power delivery is incredibly smooth, plus it seems to get to the 4000rpm "kick" a little quicker, sorry a LOT quicker, which would indicate to me a bit more acceleration. I turned around at a T junction and had to wait for a few cars to pass by, that's when I noticed it, that growl that you only hear at about 4000rpm and higher, that beautiful beautiful V8 almost sounding growl!

That growl is there at tick over, quieter but it's there none the less. Yes Stan it deffinately sounds a lot more 5-pot like than before. Also, I get a gentle kick in the kidneys right off the bat now, never used to get that before but now there is a deffinate "the chair is pushing gently into my back" feeling about it and at that magic 4000 (though nearer 3500 now) rpm it's like "the chair is trying to pass tbhrough me!!!"

Seriously never thought I would feel a difference, figured there would be one and possibly a large difference but not one that I would feel just more one that would show up on a dynamometer. But there is a huge difference to my car.

Also to agree with Brigham, it ticks over incredibly smoothly. I guess my next task is to change the air filter to a nice clean one or maybe an induction kit. I bought an induction kit made for the 20V na about a year ago, but the pipes supplied were no where near long enough so maybe just a visit to the motor factors and by some stainless curved tube.

Thank you Flea, You have made it feel good to drive the Coop again, was starting to feel bored of her. Now she feels alive again. laugh

Fariniac.

PS, it took about 10 mins to change the chips over after about an hour of searching for my tools! Last time I tidy up the garage I can tell ya tongue

Hi Guys,

Follow up on the chip, fitted a new exhaust as the last one gave up, fitted a Cybox from the Cat back, getting old one off was a bit of a t**t had to buy a grinder. Fitting was a doddle loads of Firegum, will need to tweak the rear mount to pull up the rear box, just me being picky. Started the Coupe what a lovely sound I was hopping around the garage, the Wife thought I'd gone mad. The Cybox is louder but not boy racer loud it really compliments the chip, a really deep burble. Next will be a K&N Induction kit but in the mean time modified the airbox. Performance well what a difference, pulls away really well and smoothly all the way, didn't red line it, smooth gear changes good throttle response a good feeling of power in reserve. We popped up to Inverary along the Loch bendy roads, brake into bends change gear accelerate out of the bends, can really feel the extra horses around the 3K to 4K.

Now I know why the Joker has a big smile he drives a Coupe.

TTFN

Hi all,

had my chip for about 3 weeks now after having it fitted and checked by Leighton, who is (as all will tell you) a very friendly and helpful chap. I've done about 700 miles on 2 tanks in that time and there is definitely an all-round improvement. To me it feels like there is only a small increase in torque below 4k, but I notice the improvement in power and torque above 4k. The coupe used to seem to run out of power approaching 6k before and I didn't think I could get much more than 70mph out of 3rd. Now it will easily pull to 80mph in 3rd at about 6k. Much better in the mid-high rev range. I've been understandably driving about quicker than normal up and down the M-way but still seen an extra 1-2mpg. Not much I know, but every little helps. I'm not sure about the sound at idle, but it does sound better with a bit of throttle smile

I think the coupe's due a service so should hopefully improve even more after that. Definitely worth the money.

James

First sorry for my bad English (I use a translator)
fcperformance on the site is marked "(non-vis 147bhp) models"
it works not for a 2l 20v 147 bhp?

Fitted the chip today and went out. First thing it started first time as usual and tick over was if anything a tad slower than before then moving off I noticed it had a slightly heavier note on power and thats heard more via the existing K&N filter. Engine was warm but I bet its a bit noisier on mine from cold. Torque is definately up improving 3rd and 4th no complaints there... I need more time compare old to new but i sense im on the brakes a little earlier than i used to. By far the most challenging part of chip changeover was finding thin pointy objects to get old chip out. My Mrs wondered what i had been sent in the post by Flee and like Stan I was a bit nervous unwrapping it! I spent a few minutes justifying the chip on fuel saving grounds.... eh hem.... that had better be true or im in trouble.

Thanks. Fortunately she can tell the performance difference too. She said
" it feels revvier" hehe Ive tried super unleaded and ordinary unleaded and i"m convinced the ordinary works better. Which is also good news.
