New FC Hybrid Turbo - 372bhp & 329lbs/ftI have to say I do love hybrid turbos, especially when they are this good Introducing the fastest spooling and most powerful hybrid combination to grace a Coupe 20vt... the FC PowerUltra+! Of course it looks like a regular standard turbo, but that's the beauty of it. A direct fit with all original and uprated parts i.e. inductions, exhausts, manifolds, it could not be simpler. However, deep within a powerful beast lies waiting, one that has pushed the capabilities of the hybrid to it's ultimate form. 1.35bar345bhp @ 6934rpm 291lbs/ft @ 4920rpm 288 wheel power @ 6737rpm 1.65bar372bhp @ 6987rpm 329lbs/ft @ 5007rpm 312 wheel power @ 6871rpm The torque band is simply immense, with the turbo lighting up with just a whiff of throttle and 1.5bar seen at 3000rpm on the road! No surge just a wall of torque building and building, but it doesn't let up like most hybrids, no this one just digs the heels in and pulls hard all the way to 7000rpm. Now then, you can't just bolt on any turbo and expect it to make max power without further modifications. You also can't run 1.65bar on a standard engine for too long no matter how well I tune it! No this particular turbo has been mated to a beautiful Chrono Grey LE owned by Shaky20vt with a new FC Performance engine and upgrade package, fully forged and ready to take on the full force of the PowerUltra+ FC forged engined Standard head 6 paddle clutch FC Front mounted intercooler FC 3" exhaust system SIP + K&N filter Walbro 225 fuel pump + direct battery feed 410cc injectors NGK 7 spark plugs Apexi AVC-R boost controller FC Stage 4 remap There's more too... If I told you we actually made 390bhp from this turbo, well tis true! You only have to look at the boost chart to see this turbo in action, 1.6bar holding all the way to 7000rpm! While I knew we were going to be pushing the boundaries, I did not expect the 410cc injectors to reach max duty at 6k. So for now I have artificially reduced the boost via the Apexi in order to bring the fuel in line and 372bhp is where we are at. Shaky will be back though, and with it an upgrade to our Stage 4 Big MAF conversion

Sounds very interesting does this Leighton! Especially good for those replacing their turbo (usually after you've just bought a coupe!) as it's something that can sit and evolve with the car as it's developed and modded by the owner. Nice approach.

Looks rather interesting indeed!
More and more development work - always good to read new and exciting things for the Coupé.
Coupe now sold!

I can honestly say that Leighton's work has given my Coupe a new lease of life - I just cannot stop putting my right foot down .It just keeps pulling and pulling through all the gears, but I do have to stop myself as I know the injectors are on the limit. This Turbo spools up so quickly, it's unbelievable - If you need a new upgrade then this Turbo is the way to go - But this is just my opinion. Thanks Leighton

sounds great fun....but, cost of a forged re-build is prohibitive to most c. £3k coupe owners - with your mapping and supporting external additions (presumably cooler, breathing and pump. possible injectors) how far would you comfortably take the mapping matched to this turbo for road use - where the time above 6k rpm in upper gears is absolutely minimal - given an average condition engine, good oil and fully warmed each time? - would 350 bhp and say 320 lb ft be realistic? - Or are we still better off sticking with an earlier hybrid and 340bhp max - is the cost similar and the responsiveness so much better that it makes the new model simply the default choice? - what sort of cost for the unit?
What makes the new unit more responsive low down and able to flow hi boost through to 7k? - Unusual to 'have your cake, and eat it!'

As I mentioned in an earlier post, you certainly don't need a forged engine to run this turbo, in much the same way you don't for a GT28RS. At modest boost levels it will flow very efficiently and be capable of 270-350bhp on a standard engine, but with a very broad powerband.
As for revs, the standard engine can also be taken to 7k if tuned correctly, but for most Coupes we would be seeing peak power around 6-6.5k, so just a little higher than standard.
It by no means makes other turbos redundant, but if you are modifying a car in stages then you can go with a single turbo rather than having to swap out for the next power increase. I have also introduced a little brother version to the FC lineup for even faster turbo spool, this will be our default choice for the 300 mark where turbo response is very key.

This must be quick fast spooling street turbo. Well done, Leighton! I bet that it is ball bearing. PS why only 1.45bar if the engine is forged? No still journal bearing The new FC engine is being run in by myself, but once ready it will be going up to 1.7bar It is the same turbo as mentioned in the opening post, it certainly loves boost! I'll send you a PM Davie as there are two variants.
