There are so many variables to this. How hard the cars' been driven. How regular the oil changes have been. How often the car is run cold/hot. Etc. Etc. I had an Uno Turbo on 150k miles. Original Turbo. No smoke at all. Others had there's go much earlier. On the Coupe it's going to be similar story. Avoid boost until the cars fully warmed up. Change the oil more regularly as needed. Don't go too mad on the boost if you've been in traffic for a while, and the car is hot. You should see over 100k miles. Incidentally, how much are talking these days for a new turbo? And then a reconditioned unit?

thing with all this is you cant be 100% sure if your car is on its original turbo unless you have had the car from brand new my recon turbo was £595 for a gti-r hybrid, standard recon was only about £100 cheaper

Think mine lasted to 110,000 miles and I have driven them all from 25k.

114k so far and car has every single receipt and I'm the 2nd owner so I'd hope a turbo change would have been recorded.....

T3 180K km and it's still fine (on a shelf) Most driving was motorway though, heated carefully and on standard boost, no decat.

Over 90k for mine then upgraded to GT28R but only did that coz manifold gasket was leaking, orig turbo in a box as a spare now, nothing wrong with it

93K for mine and it was pretty much ok,just a little bit of smoke when starting from cold but once warmed up it was fine . I`ve got it stored away so i`ve got a good spare to get re-conditioned if I ever need to (hopefully not for this Coop though). Baz

It's an engine mod in itself, you will get more power at the same boost level because the boost wont tail off, the flow of air is much better at high revs.

mine did 118k before it finally gave up!! but it had spent quite a lot of miles putting up with a de-cat, probably about 50k or so, didn't do too bad.

Think my one is the original turbo but obviously no receipts to prove it's been changed at any stage. Anyway, on 85k miles and no smoke in the 7 months I've had the car. Left it idle many times for 5 minutes after a long run and never seen any smoke yet.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as my turbo ticked over 125,000 miles at the weekend!
