first buy a better head unit. Anything north of £150 in the alpine range is good. Next buy some component speakers for the doors (infinity kappa's get good reviews on here 16.5cm with tweeter / mid-bass unit and crossover but lesser infinity speakers are still good). Also dynamat or similar in the front doors and around the speakers is advisable.

All depends on what you want to do and how much folding you have.

Next up would be some bass in the rear. How you do that is up to you.

Agree with the Alpine advice - very good sound and build quality along with a red backlighting that matches the standard coop interior perfectly. \:\)

However, as the NatWest ads says , "there is another way" regarding speakers. If you leave the standard speakers in, the upgraded head unit will often make them sound much better than the stock unit. If you were to then add a decent sub and amp combo to the rear of the car, you would be adding much needed bass which will really make your system soar and add real soul to it.

The above is dependant on you wanting to build a "proper" system. If you're just looking for a "quick fix", upgrade the fronts with a decent set of components.

The sub / amp advice came from Steve at Mega-Watt and this guy really knows his stuff.

In my last coop I fitted some Alpine Type R's up front to complement the Alpine head unit. Simply amazing sound quality. \:D
Though I did need to create some wedge shaped spacers to mount them properly. There isn't that much room behind the factory fit junk.

Build the sub into the passenger side of the boot above the wheel arch.

I'll see if i can find the how to guide, might have it saved on my pc at home.

Ok I've found the user guide sort of that I used, it has some good pics but a little light on actual step by step instructions.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/fastedd/ice.htm
I've hunted through the how tos on here and can't find it, i've an idea it got lost from old forum.
Best of luck with it. I'm currently using an 8" sub and it gives plenty of bass for me anyway.

A better look at finished product, i also have both my amps in the same place.
You will need at least 3-4 hrs.
If you put the amps in the boot don't forget there is a 10mm earth point under rear lights on passenger side.
