I know how you feel. I had 2 very similar experiences with eBay.
One had a dent in the wing in the ad but was bent like a banana on closer inspection. All the way from Newbury to Sheffield to find that one out \:mad\:
I bet you were thrilled to get an LE for £2300.

So what were the main problems with it apart from turbo and the scratch on the wing? Looks lovely in the pics, but pics always flatter cars.

Looks OK in the pics. But was it undrivable? Turbo must have let go real bad to not be drivable/

I thought this was one time forum-er aaronfenwick, but it appears not (red 20v near Reading, no posts for a year). But it does surprise me when people bid on a car, sight unseen and even if people do turn up, they don't bother to look over the car properly or even test drive it

Tbh at £2300 i dont know what you are greeting about they are selling for £2k more than that.
Please explain what exactly is wrong with it. Surely more than a turbo? more than £2k to fix?

Seems like a bargain. I have been lead to believe that the interior alone would be worth close to £1000.

I think that was the same one that was advertised in one of the classic car mags for £1,500 that my Dad showed me.

He thought it would be worth a gamble but I reckoned there must be more than just a turbo wrong with it.

Exactly my thoughts. Car was seriously cheap and even if it needed a few jobs doing would still be worth having especially if you could do some yourself.

The guy selling it is very dodgy being very vague and unknowledgable at times despite being a trader and then when it suits appearing to know about coupes! the head gasket has gone not the turbo, the three grand worth of receipts were none existent they were from when the car was stamped so no history for 30000 miles, thre was no alarm fobs and only one key despite when i rang the guy he said all that was missing was the red key! the doors wouldnt lock the alarm kept going of as you were driving, the front bumper was completely knackered and been very badly repaired the small scratch in the rear wing was infact a great big dent (very difficult to repair due to its location) the drivers side wing mirror wasnt intact, all the wheels had chunks out of them, there was no evidence of a cambelt change, someone had been tampering with the electrics, when i ask the guy if it had been stood he said no as when we started it it sounded like a bag of spanners after driving it it had quitened down he then said "dont forget its been stood". if you are very handy and can do all the bits yourself and arnt scared by the possibilty of endless electrical gremlins i would go for it as the interior was mint and all the supension felt very tight. However i could see a vey quick trip into 5 grand and upwards territory for a car still plagued with problems, if this wasnt an le you would run mile but its funny how those two little letters blind people as they almost did me into buying a complete dog............

Ok I've put my chequebook away now.

I've had the doors not locking on mine several times the alarm gets into some stupid mode where it will turn on but not lock the doors. And when using the key I need to lock each door individually (when it gets into this mode)

However it still sounds like it could be expensive to get perfect!

personnally i would have bought it. think you let a bargin slip. instead of being blinded by the LE badge you you was blinded by little faults that you could have sorted over time.

but ultimatly you have to be happy with your car!! just dont expect an le that cheap that doesnt need some care and tlc!

Sums it up really. Its £2k less than what it should be. Also buying any car on ebay you take the risk some you win some you lose.

Yeh people would never especially trade sell a coupe needing a £180 turbo replacement for under half price would they. If its so easy and simple why not sort it, always more to it.

People expecting such are being naive.
