There was (is) a Sprinty in Basildon that was owned by Paul Warner that made 381bhp in Bristol. I heard it was sold on but that it died around this time. Not sure if it's still going now?

If I am truly the highest, then i must get the exhaurt sorted to get the most from it, but I can't see me holding the title for long with a lowly GT28RS (I remember when the 'disco potato' was a force to be reckoned with on here frown )

Well not to jump the gun too much, but my Sprinty now has a fully forged 2.5 with a GT3076 -- it is now run in and due back to Rog once the 3" downpipe arrives - only been 7 weeks waiting for it now frown. After that it will be whizzed down to Flea to do his magic. That should be well into the 400bhp range, maybe even a little higher, if the rolling road gods are in a good mood. smile

A well set up 2.5 litre Coupe with a GT3076 SHOULD take the honours for the most powerful Coupe, never mind the most powerful Sprinty

Personally putting ~250bhp on the road is hard enough, 400bhp must be barely driveable, cost stupid money and break more than a stock/gently modified Coupe.

Quite happy with the power mine puts out and the fact it's a minter over how much more fuel/parts it will eat through at massive BHP.

not really mate, as long you can drive it shouldnt be hard to put the power down.

if you stamp on the throttle then yes your going to rip the rubber off and your going to expect things to break fast.

but as for breaking more than normal... tbh.. how many of the 400bhp club guys break down? the cars are so well looked after and so much time is put into those cars that that hardly break!!

Barely driveable?

It's FWD, either the wheels grip and you accellerate quickly, or they spin and you back off until they grip. Far easier than a modified MR2 or a cerb.

320 bhp is enough for me though. The sweet spot - cheap, easy, reliable, and very quick. I dont think I'd go to the effort of taking a Coupe beyond that point unless I had a lot of spare cash lying around that I didnt know what to do with.

I think I'm entitled to my views regardless of what the "400bhp club" say or have.

A FWD car with anymore than 300bhp imo is useless and yes Marco I'm more than capable of driving my car sweetheart

I would be concerned if 250 bhp is hard to put down, are you sure you car is set up all OK, as 250 is barely more than standard, so it should be putting that power down very easily with no issues what so ever!!

All I'm saying is the biggest problem with massive FWD power is that when accelerating, the weight transfers to the rear tyres, giving less traction to the drive wheels and the front tyres are being overworked with too much power when cornering by being required to both apply power and steer the car. The net result is significant inherent understeer which even happens with my mere ~240bhp.

So basically you're just making a problem worse in my opinion.

Marco you know I love you really!

Seeing as Neil (prev. owner) told me that Rog from PowerFiat said that my Sprinty was one of the best he'd driven I'm sure it's setup well!

Lazer aligned, Conti's all round, brand new Fiat shocks and Eibachs and a Sparco strut brace it drives very well and is tight but still is tricky getting grip on occasion.

I am quite sure all that is true, but I still don't get why 250 is hard to put down, my coops were 240 and 300 and they put the power down just fine. OK the 300 scrabbled abit but it was superspool, and the turbo came in fast, but you could feather the accelerator and it was fine, but the 240 was easy to drive, grip was never an issue there.. So just wondered why yours was suffering!!

Coming out of a bend fast and applying the power in 2nd gear I will always get quite a lot of wheel spin so in my thinking if you have more power that will worsen that?

Even Jezza slates stupidly high powered FWD cars. I remember when he drove the Alfa 147 GTA AutoDelta version with 330bhp. Catastrophicly bad handling and understeer because of too much power. Ok he's not the be all and end all of car enthusiasts/drivers but he knows what he's talking about and it makes sense.

If you want a big power all rounder I'd say 4WD is the only way as personally I think massive power FWD cars are a waste of time for anything but motorway pulls and maybe Santa Pod IF you can get a semi-decent launch.

Anyway these are my opinions and this is why my Sprinty or any other Coupe doesn't "need" MASSIVE power to be noticed or flagged up imo.!
