North West Mini Meet

Just had a word with MABR, and he and i are up for a Mini Meet before Winter sets in.
So, i thought of meeting in Cheshire, sorting a nice route out with a nice pub for refreshments. All we need is a date and i will find a nice rendezvous to meet up. Personally, would prefer Sunday, but a Sat would be fine.
All ideas welcome.

I need more coop pictures for my college project. So I thought lets have a Sunday Dinner run to the Cat and Fiddle near Buxton Cat and Fiddle Beautiful drive on some of the best roads around and pretty good food too (a la Sportsmans stylee) proper menu plus bar meals

Heres the twist.

If anyone is up for it I'll be coming in the Figaro with Mrs C2D driving.
It's a convertible so we can lead the run at a sedate 40 leptons and I can take 'road pics' out the back of the Figaro. If we meet somewhere first I might get some motorway pics too - coops three abreast
Once at the Cat and Fiddle there is a most excellent straight road and I can get some panning pics if any of you want to do drive pasts like this only better as this was grab shot. Then maybe some detail shots in the car park.

Then you can all go and have dinner

I grew up near buxton, great roads! I would be up for it once my car is fixed.

How about getting some pictures of coops going up or down winnats pass in castleton?

Also, do you have a camcorder? I want to know what my coupe sounds like when I overtake people!

C2D's idea sounds spot on and after the fiasco of the last Lakes Meet where we were trying to keep up with peeps, this way we can all enjoy the scenary and I think Mrs MABR will appreciate the pace too.

Any day OK for me but Sunday preferred.

The later in november it is the better chance I have of making it. 4th is almost certainly a no, 11th very possible, 18th, almost certainly yes.

nobody will want to look at my car - it has a couple of little battle scars, does about 700 miles a week and only gets washed once a month - might have to polish it for the occasion!

its not bad to be honest - 20v n/a with just an exhaust and k&n - most of its the M62 so its steady driving most of the time.
i suppose that s the price of living in leeds and manchester!!

ultra reliable but just could do with a couple of jobs doing including a couple of small dents but my mate has a body shop so when he gets a minute it will be in!

I wouldn't worry about the condition of your Coupe-none of them are perfect

As long as it runs, it'll be fine

My Coupe's battered and has dents, etc., and it'll be staying like that too

Not sure that we have a local specialist really. for any big jobs I go down to birmingham - motormech. Betacar in bradford are supposed to be good, but expensive. If I needed a local garage then I would go back to alfa tech near the stadium complex. They did a compression test for me, alfa specialist but they have had a few coupe's in I think. Highly recommended on Alfa forums.

As for the meet. I'd say meet at whatever meeting places we come up with at around 11:00 or 11:30 and get to the pub about 12:00 ish, leaving some time to talk cars in the car park and take pics, kick tyres etc before going in for food and beer about 1:00 ish.

Just a thought, is anyone going got one of Nigel's custom lower subframe braces fitted?

I've got one and it was to be fitted about three weeks ago at Allitalia, but they were concerned about speedhumps and my ground clearence (already running 300mm lower due to eibach/bilstein combo) hence it wasnt fitted

Just want to see what ground clearence other people have got....

Well my tyres arrived this afternoon, so should be able to get them fitted by the weekend! Although i've rang a couple of garages already and they refuse to fit them as they reckon they make no money out of it!! Don't really understand that as i'm willing to pay £30 for 30 mins of their time!?

well you will be north bound (i think) and i'll be south bound (i think) so i guess if i make a suggestion that which ever way we will be heading after would be the best side!!

Just checked theaa.com for the route from the services and Northbound is the shorter by 8 miles/minutes so may be the best
Depends on what roads people know as the better route to the Cat and Fiddle really though (postcode SK11 0AR )

Services are between J18 and J19 (or vice versa as you look at it)

This is the best idea and its where we met last time. Also, its then an easy run down to Jact 19 and off on the A537 towards the Cat & Fiddle

Getting to the Northbound Knutsofrd services is a pain from Manchester and will take an extra 1/2 hour on the motorway down the Jct 18 and back (dull dull dull)

Totally agree - mine's still got a melted back bumper and hasn't been cleaned for over 3 weeks. We're all enthusiasts but that doesn't mean our coops will be concours condition. When I first got mine I used to think the same thing about condition / scratches etc. Now 12 months on and having attended a couple of meets, I don't worry about it; there're coops in far better condition than mine and some that are the same. At the end of the day it's all about meeting up and having a good time.

it's not as if people go round inspecting other people's coupe's for faults, except for carlt

the cat and fiddle meet is worth going to just for some of the roads, and the food was pretty good aswell

Blummin 'eck, for some reason i thought this was tomorrow (saturday) , so was going to attend on my way to Manchester. But as it's on the Sunday i'm going to have to pull out i'm expecting quite a large hangover and have a round of golf organised for Sunday afternoon!

That's no excuse. As I've said before, no Coupe is perfect and you've even seen mine. Yours is in much better condition

Yeah, that's no excuse. I might not be in the coop but if I am you will find it has a scrape on the back wing, a burnt exhaust recess and a broken sidelight

Go down Barlow Moor Rd in Chorlton, until you get to Southern Cemetery and Princess Parkway. Go across Princess Parkway and on the left about thirdish turn is Burton Rd. Down Burton, until you come to Lapwing Rd on your right. Turn there and thats where the Pub is.
Or meet me at the Shell station on Trafford Rd, Ordsall at 10.10am.

I *might* let someones passenger drive my coop then I can take some pics

I personally don't mind driving fast, but it's a meet and the coops will look nice in convoy and it's lovely drive up to the Cat and Fiddle So I would say........Ground rules for who ever is leading the convoy at any time.

Stick to the speed limits.

After pulling out from any T junction, Right Turn or Traffic Island. Take it nice and slow until we know all the coops have caught up.

Excellent comments Chris. As most of you already know, Mrs MABR will be driving as I'm not allowed to yet and she does stick to speed limits. Looks like it's going to be raining too so all the more reason to be sensible.

i was getting worried as we turned onto the Cat and Fiddle, as the vehicles coming down, had snow on them.
Snow and Turbo Coupes do not mix!!
As we got higher, the white clouds drew right in.
Was fun parking!!!
Meal was lovely, and i noticed the weather was changing and drawing in again for more severe sleet/snow, so bit the bullet and returned.
Great turn out.

Oh, and they can't be proper coupé drivers, all the coupés are parked in the bays, not at an angle across two or three, miles from the nearest cars!

Did you notice my sneaky one of the coppers who were eying us up for 15 mins. They were checking our regs out too!!!

Sorry I wasn't around for the run. My luck's out at present with my job going west on friday I've really got to watch the pennies now. Added to the possible salting of the roads affecting the BlingMachine's chromies, it just wasn't on.
Thanks to everyone who did the run, I know Sump was really pleased at the turnout.

Yep - it was me! Worrying about my Coupe (as usual)..

Let me start by saying for the benefit of anyone else thinking of undertaking this trip..............

Buxton is in the opposite direction to Warrington

I have of course got pics, but I haven't had time to post them. You wouldn't believe what a luvverly evening I had

Got home from the meet, got warm, had tea, started to upload the pictures, when my daughters partner rings to tell her his car wouldn't start.

Sounded like a flat battery so I drive to liverpool, put the battery on charge bring him back to St helens to his mum's. I get warm again, watch i'm a celebrity then take him and my Daughter back home to Liverpool. I put the battery back on car but the live terminal wouldn't tighten up. Had a look at the terminal (by moonlight, and reflection off the driving rain and sleet) and it's full of corrosion, so I start to poke at it with a screwdriver only to find that the bolt has corroded right through!! Have to go back after work now to try and drill the bolt out and replace it. Bl@@dy cars

Anyway, that aside it was a great meet. Nice to meet everyone and we made a pretty cool convoy too, the coops looked great, and that pub was lovely and warm Will post pics up later tonight !

When we got back, the Mrs. car wouldn't start and had the same problem, so the jump-leads came into action.

So fancy that, a working Coop rescuing a broken down Peugeot.. there's a turn-up!!

Hi all put itv weather on ten minutes ago and just before the forcast came on there was a picture of the coupes outside the cat ;fiddle 'so tune in to ITV tonight could be there again' well chuffed.

You have a very nice electric blue Coupe.

She's usually useless with cars, but her ears had pricked up at the sound of Granada mentioning the Cat and Fiddle and when she looked up she said she saw what looked like a flash of my car.

She text me and said she'd seen what looked like my car on the weather report

After coming home and checking out the report, I can see it wasn't my car, but I've text her back saying I'm impressed with the fact that it was actually the same make and model as my car

I was expecting to see a blue coloured Ford Focus or something, knowing what she's like with cars
