Coop been on a rolling road

Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 13:57

Just had her on a rolling road, she ran 286bhp on her first run. I was getting a afr starting around 12.7 dropping to 11.5 then back upto 12.5, this is using a 3.8bar fpr and a gtec 2 hf chip, are these reuslts ok or is it worth swapping to a gtec 2 or back to a 3.0 bar regulator?
there are no print outs, as the printer didnt work. i am going back tomorrow lunch for another play on it (as they didnt charge me for the runs today due to not being able to have any print outs). They will let me swap the parts about there at no extra cost \:\)

What other mods do you have? 12.7 AFR is too lean I would have thought, if that's on boost. 12.7 off boost is too rich. Maybe you'd benefit from a live map?

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:06

12.5 at the top end is too lean IMO - bye bye pistons.

Did they check the car for detonation?

Going back to a 3 bar reg or the leaner chip will make it worse. What is the spec of the car and do you have an uprated fuel pump?

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:13

They didnt check the car for detonation..

I have an uprated fuel pump in the garage \:\) i cant get the cap off the fuel tank to install it, no matter what i use its just stuck, might have another bash \:\) at it tonight. it does have the wiring mod though.

Spec:
GTiR hybrid, Pro alloy FMIC, Apexi filter & tapered sip, Gtec 2 hf, 3.8bar fpr, decat & ss exhaust

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:18

Get the uprated fuel pump on and try again. I think you might have to take the swirl pot out to fit it.

If they cant check it for det then take it somewhere that can ;\)

get the pump fitted asap

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:21

yeah i think the swirl pot has to come out, but i cant even get that far as i cant get the damn screw lid thing off...

how do they check for detonation?! (silly question i know)

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:22

what boost are you running?

they use det cans to listen for det!

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:26

its running just around 1.25bar and tapers down to approx 0.9bar

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 14:55

That turbo should hold 1.1 bar at the redline...

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 15:00

i cant get it to hold that at red line, the most i have been able to get is 0.9 (ish)

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 15:18

put a 0.8 bar actuator on and it should do if your boost controller is set up right on your setup.

Checking for detonation is very important. As you are running lean I bet your car is. I would seriously not push your car beyond 5,000 rpm until this is sorted.

I would also put money on your running lean at the top end due to the fuel pump not being able to supply the fuel - this mod should have come before raising the fuel pressure IMO. The standard pump usually maxes out at 270 bhp or so. You have to remove the swirl pot to fit a walbro 255 and also modify the pump housing.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 15:55

i dont think that i have the boost controller setup properly in that case, as is has a 0.8bar actuator on.

i best ease off on the old gogo pedal....

looks like thats my weekend planned, doing the fuel pump...

Be prepared for some swearing trying to get the seal back on....and a nice smell of petrol. you'll know what I mean after you have a go!

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 16:53

i tried that and didnt work, i didnt want to hit it too hard thought that i would break it... my fuel tank doesnt seem to 'drop' that far down like it is in the guide...

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 17:16

You dont have to drop the fuel tank - it will fit through the hole in the boot without it. It's fiddly to do, but possible.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 17:19

i will slap it around abit more tonight and see if i can get it off... or break it \:s

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 03/07/2008 17:43

i changed the coop pump onto my marea last night, only took about 30 minutes so you should be alright, the plastic screw ring is pretty solid so just give it a good battering \:D

i hope that the fuel pump is the answer to this because i dont know what else it could be...

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 04/07/2008 09:46

Think about it this way - how many rolling road runs do you want to pay for, including messing about with different chips etc. until you get it a right as possible? \:\?

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 04/07/2008 10:07

Fit the fuel pump then live map.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 08/07/2008 11:56

i thought that i would ask this here instead of starting a new thread, last time i was the the rolling road i was aksed where the obd port was... as im not sure.. does anyone else know?!

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 08/07/2008 13:00

If so, it's a little plug just in front of the coolant tank.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 09/07/2008 15:07

im losing faith in places now to know what they are doing, i took her back today and now it is a different guy running it, he wasnt totally sure how to use all the rolling road gear!!!! was odsessed with trying to sell me a live map or a danesk chip... i wouldn't trust the guy to wipe his arse let alone touch my car!!
any who... if the rollers where setup properly, this time round the afr was 14.8 @ idle then a constant 12.5-12.8 through the rev range... which is way too lean again, even with a gtec2 hf, 3.8bar fpr, walbro fuel pump and wiring mod....
im just getting stumped now with what else i can do except a live map (but noooo way is that guy doing it!!!)
can anyone help?! or recommend me a rr near me or in hastings as i am down there the beginning of next week.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 09/07/2008 18:26

Have you tried lowering the boost a bit to see if that'll make it a bit richer!? Also, might be worth thinking about getting the injectors cleaned if you're considering a map in the not too distant future.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 10/07/2008 08:38

The boost he is running should not be a problem.

Take the car to a decent rolling road - if you need to travel to do so then do it. From those last readings you are running WAY TO LEAN.

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 10/07/2008 09:15

I just had a thought.... with the old 3.0 fpr and standard fuel pump it wasnt too far off, so if i changed back to the 3.0 fpr using the walbro pump, it might sort it out?!
im going to find a decent rolling road and goto that as you said suba, it worth the time travelling and fuel, irather that than the engine goes *pop*

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 10/07/2008 09:30

Im having similiar issues Dan, I got my car rolling roaded at Matty's new place of work at the weekend and it was shown to be running very lean (We believe this is probably what caused my last engine to go \:\( )

I've got a near standard engine, was running 1 bar of boost with Gtech1 chip and Apexi Induction kit. Matty and MattB checked the standard fuel pump was getting enough power which it was so next step is tonight.

I've fitted a high fuelling Gtech 1 Chip and will get the car rolling roaded again tonight with Matty.. \:\)

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 10/07/2008 15:26

here is the print out from the last rolling road, i think i need to tweak the Greddy a bit as the power shoots up dips then comes back on...

the power shown is the power at the wheels

Re: Coop been on a rolling road - 18/07/2008 15:02

yet again the coop has been on a rolling road, i think that she is nearly running ok, its slightly lean on spool up but once on full boost it runs rich, i think that it is just the chip that needs tweaking to suit??
i have just about sorted out the boost spike by setting up the boost controller again
