3 days on track

3 days on track - 08/11/2013 15:40

This weekend i have 3 days on track.
Saturday we have an open pitlane at this circuit. http://www.circuitdehautesaintonge.com/piste-de-vitesse.html This cost 120 Euro plus 22 for track damage insurance.

Then Sunday and Monday at my local circit. http://www.circuitvaldevienne.com/ This one cost 12 Euro for 15 minute sessions.
The forcast is light rain for tomorrow and sun with cloud for Sunday and Monday.
The coupes is all loaded up ready to go.

Probably my last outing this year and before the coupe goes into the Uk for surgery.

Just back from the first day. New track for us.
Left home at 6.30 am. Coupe on the trailor behind the camper.
Stopped off to top the coupe up with 98.

Arrived a 8.45 just in time for briefing.
Great place which looks all new. With toilets and showers, rest rooms etc.

Forcast was good for the morning and bloody awfull in the afternoon. So i just bought the morning session.

Gill says i am getting better at this track day lark.
1 full spin and 3 drifts which were held.

I have to say our coupes are bloody fantastic machines, and as said before put shame to some very expensive kit.

I just wish there were more of us there.

Midday arrived and the track was shut for the traditional french 2 hour lunch.( no rain) Then at 2 o'clock the heavens opened.
Fair play, those that payed got themselves on track in the downpour.
I had a watch in the rain, then a nice little snooze in the camper before heading home.
The coupe sits on the trailor ready for tomorrow. Forcast is rain, but the track is just down the road,so no rush.

These coupes get under your skin.

I have been thinking about a replacement for a coupe!
Any suggestions? I have no idea what could replace it £ for £.

Re: 3 days on track - 09/11/2013 21:41

what were you putting to shame against the coupe?

as a replacement it all depends what else your going to use it for because id say a kit car (caterham etc) or if your worried about rain and would like to use it for other stuff aswell then theres loads depending on budget.

why would you replace? if your having fun with it and thinking of better stuff out there why dont you upgrade (handling, brakes and maybe some power)

An upgrade is on the books Adam. But very happy with the coupe as she is also.
It has Osrav sport all round with Eibach springs. Upper and lower strut braces.Whiteline 22mm ARB
Helix organic clutch, fmic and basic Flea map. Pagid rs 29 pads.Toyo 888s for track.
To be honest i am toying with the idea of a stable mate for the coupe. Maybe a barge for Sundays laugh

What let it down, handling, under steer, power?

I dont think its a question of let down really.
It will be alot better when all bushes ,bearings and mounts are renewed.
Made a bit lighter and then an extra bit of power.

And most importantly try to achieve a bit more talent.
That will be addressed in the spring with some tuition hopefully.

As above. Without a big spend on a 996 turbo not much excites me tbh, a Westfield would be nice but practicality is a sore point!

They are a very hard car to replace IMO. Just look at the amount of owners that have got sick of them and sold up(myself included) only to eventually come back with another coupe!

I've found balance is very important with setup so be careful where you remove the weight, your specs sounds good, reminds me of DaveT's.

I don't think Dave has owned a coupe for at least 3 years now confused

Re: 3 days on track - 11/11/2013 16:44

Yes i have allways liked the way DANS coupe is set up.

The coupe has been very enjoyable this weekend(bank hol today)and performed really well.
The poor car has been hustled around the track as fast as it could go to be honest.
Plenty of boiling over including steering fluid. Last run this afternoon saw some very high oil temps so i called it a day at that.
I was concerned that after 2 days of thrashing the oil needed changing but had no time so today was a bit of a risk.
I saw one more coupe today the same colour as mine. A French coupe club member i had met a few years ago.

Some good interest today in the coupe by many of the track day people.

There is another trackday on the 9th December ,so the poor old coupe may just get one more outing this year.

Sounds like a great few days, Joe. I'll have to look up those tracks for when I eventually drive my Westfield over to my folks place (which I'm determined to do one day!)

Pfft. It was work in progress before I bought it.

We all know I finished it off. I've put a considerable amount of petrol in it and maybe an occasional drop of oil smile. Maybe a cambelt guard, a 3.8 bar fpr and a remap. Cambelt and new oil cooler and pipes. See, the list is endless!

Back on topic, looks like a good few days track action for you Joe. +1 to a French trackday too...

Easy enough to sort out Dan. I am getting to know a few trackday organisers now. So a roundabout date is all thats needed.

Yesterday was great weather with a dry track, even got some good heat into the Toyo's.
I gave a few rides to 1st timers,so there was a bit of screaming going on etc. Great fun.
