he may have had a "manual" reading taken, it's worth knowing though. also, although low oil pressure can be bad it isn't necessarily so wink

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 17/03/2010 21:41

How low is it when ticking over and then reving it up ?
If he is getting a reading off the gauge and it is fluctuating when he revs.....would there really be something wrong with the gauge ?
Sounds more probable the sender I would have thought....which means......

Until you contact him dont go jumping to conclusions. I think Rog (poweritalia) fitted the engine (confirm that with him), and he isn't likely to go and fit a knackered engine.

Its a vinci grey LE, they dont often come up for sale. I would wait until you have more info from the owner, you might find that Rog has told him that the oil pressure is under reading in which case you cant really get much more reassurance.

So to reiterate, vinci LE's dont often come up for sale, 3k is still a reasonable price to pay, I sold my one with a lot higher mileage and a portafino bonnet for not much less.

If in doubt, avoid speculation and buy something else.

If he has tried contacting him with no reply,I think it is human nature to think something is a miss especially when money could be involved.
Also, nobody said Rog would fit a knackered engine......did not even know he fitted it but there may be other threads and posts I have missed.....just my 2p worth.

from the few conversations i have had with rog and being aware of his knowledge and experience i am certain that if he sourced and fitted a motor,it would be proper...it would be one i would happily buy... i would ask him (rog)what the issue was for peace of mind though before any more speculation

i wasnt questioning the workmanship of rog, i was just saying that him not answering the questions is a little worrying.

i havent jumped to any conclusions....i said in an earlier post that he might not have internet access,

in my opinion the whole point of this forum is to voice these concerns so that others can advise. i do appreciate what your saying about the rarity of the vinci grey LE...especially at my budget level

I was only trying to give some balance to this thread. I felt that you were jumping to conclusions and just wanted to give some balance.

Maybe he has a life outside the forum. You are speculating that the engine has a problem but he has said that the oil pressure under reads by .5 bar what if he told you that and the oil pressure was 2.5 bar on hot idle. Not so bad now. 99% of the time a dishonest wont mention anything is wrong.

To me it sounds as though you dont have enough money to cover the very possible reality that the car is going to cost you money. maintenance alone might come to £500, it might come to £2000 and if you are buying at the top of your budget with no contingency you should be looking at something cheaper or a normally aspirated car (or a honda laugh )

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 17/03/2010 23:55

I think my budget of £3k is plenty for a 20VT which is what my aim is.....I certainly dont think it hurts for me to look at the possibility of an LE.

Also £3k is my purchase budget...I have ran 2 16VT's in my life with no problem maintaining them.

All I'm trying to do is make sure if I do stretch my budget I dont buy something that ends up being a money pit. If I buy an LE for £3k that needs money thrown at it that's fine, I just want to make sure I am as prepared as possible for those costs.

I dont think you should be making assumptions on peoples financial circumstances.

i think that's a fair point - but i also don't think it's helpful to make speculative comments on the possible state of a car no-one's been to see as SB intimates. there could be a few reasons why the oil pressure is 0.5 bar low but he states it's the gauge. we have no reason to assume he's wrong, or is misleading people on this.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 18/03/2010 11:35

ahh dont you just love a healthy debate...i dont think you can get past the fact that low oil pressure reading is a concern..i don't see a problem in expressing that, as i was concerned also.. it just needs investigating..i have to say also though that no response in over a week when you have something for sale..leads one (human nature being as it is) to wonder/suspect a possible problem may exist but as mentioned before now we are aware rog has recently fitted it, it swings back in favour of something simple..it's probably best to ask rog if the owner is not forthcoming..or busy or even on holiday?...i do think though that its all gravy anyway
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 18/03/2010 11:38

i expect it's worth knowing WHY the oil pressure is down but he's already said why - the gauge is faulty....

on a related issue, a very respected coop specialist told me he wouldn't be overly concerned unless and until oil pressure was below 1 bar. think about this, if your car had no oil gauge where would your paranoia take you then... laugh

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 18/03/2010 11:51

It was late last night when I posted my last post and I was a little put out by Sugerbear's comments.

I would like to re-iterate that I am not suggesting that Alistair's assessment of the faulty gauge is wrong and I am certainly not suggesting that Rog would have fitted anything less than a perfect engine, I was simply trying to get confirmation from Alistair how he knew that the gauge was faulty....i.e. if he had been to see someone like Rog who had confirmed that the oil pressure was fine so it simply needs a new gauge. If he was to come back to me and say "The engine is new and it drives fine so I'm assuming its just the gauge"......then you need to be a bit more cautious.

If someone mis-reads your intentions in a post you have made, once you have explained what you really meant, they should stay off the thread unless they have useful input for other users.

dont take it to heart mate ...i learnt quickly that you need a thick skin to say what your thinking on here but don't let anyone change the way you express your self or your right to say what you think ..if people get a bit uppitty or pompous let there problem or attitude stay with them..if you let it in you will either stop using the forum or end up with a load of argumental threads..like i say thick skin! i say what i like now.. bizaar..and out there some of my threads are but i find it amusing when some pompous stiff gets all pious over your thoughts on a car..keep a sense of humour.. and perspective.. there is so much knowledge and information you can access and real helpful people/experts that it pays to stick with it..be light hearted about it all and take the piss in your own way ..when i first discovered the forum i wanted to know everything i could and i like to look at everything in as much detail and find as much out about something as i can especially if i am wanting to do something with or on the car..so i tend to get on peoples nerves with the constant questions but i care not as i know loads more now about the cars than before..you will mainly find its the experts that are short with you and the guys with the real knowledge as they have heard seen and been asked the things newcomers want to know time and again and human nature being what it is they get tired of it and some become short/kurt in attitude..there are some though that have patience and possibly remember a time when they new nothing and had to ask what now seem like silly questions..as i said before.. its all gravy man
proccy give the newer guy a break:D no one thinks for a minute anything is untoward just wanting to know why and has he tried another guage and how does he know its only that etc ..just normal stuff you would want to know if you were thinking of parting with money..i trade in large commercials and if i took the word of everyone that told me it only **** i would be poor!
djmobi..i caused a bit of a do when i first came on the forum and asked for a cheap but not rubbish 20vt i got all sorts of neg about not knowing what i was doing and its people like me that this that and the other...anyway i wanted a solid base to put together the type of car i wanted which up to now has cost nearly 4k on top of purchase price and by the time i am finished and forged it will be more like 7k but no one new what i was doing ..they just thought i was some nob that wanted a sorted car for peanuts...they had some of it right but i didnt expect a sorted car for peanuts laugh as i say dont take it too serious its all gravy man

Agh sorry everyone! I put the post up at work but they've banned the site now because I've been using it too much. I've been without internet for a while and I'm on someone elses connection. doesn't work for some reason. The main issue people rightly focused on is the pressure gadge. Rog from Power italia had a look and thought it was faulty. I'd like to get it replaced for peoples peace of mind first please bear with me while i sort it out . I need to get some money for it then I'll give joe a ring about a replacement as soon as possible. I'm rather poor at the moment doing the extra miles in the fiat I hadn't planned on.

WOW we appear to have had one heck of a storm in this tea cup rolleyes

It really isn't nice to see people jumping to, negative, conclusions just because someone fails to respond to PMs and posts. The seller had not caused anyone to be out of pocket and, as we can now see, there was / is a perfectly good reason why the seller has not been responding on the forum.

It looks to me like this seller is trying to be honest about the car in the advert and help people decide if the car is worth them going to see.

If we continue to beat up sellers when they are trying to be open about cars, then all I can see are far less honest adverts and far more wasted journeys to see cars that are not at all what they are being made out to be!

FYI......Alistair and I have been exchanging messages regarding this coop since he got back on line and he has told me he took no offence and understands that my comments were not meant to be negative in anyway.......luckily not everyone takes everything so seriously on the forum.

You buying it or what....this is dragging on a bit now.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 17:46

going to see it saturday morning.......Alistair said someone else was potentially going to see it today, but he hasn't rang me to tell me its sold, so i'm assuming its still available.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 17:47

either that or he hasn't had a chance to let me know yet....hopefully not though

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 17:49

Ring him and find out......have to know before you go for a peek anyway.
If the guy did not buy.....why not ?

Oh no here we go again laugh

There are many reasons why buyers don't buy a car they go to view....

Perhaps they were hoping to get the car much cheaper?
Perhaps the buyer didn't like the the colour, or the seats smile?
Perhaps the buyer was wasting the sellers time?

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 20:05

Or perhaps we don't need to know, Spit why are you so interested in this car and sale, you don't appear to want it yourself, why all the interest?!

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 20:12

just nosey....no other reason really....well.......
I also don't want him to buy a donkey.....not saying this is one but I have purchased one or 2 (not coops thank god) in my time hence the scepticism.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 21:35

I'm going ring him in the morning and find out if it sold, but I'm sure it hasn't otherwise he would have told me. The person potentially viewing today was not a definite apparently, so if its still available, its probably because he chose not to view.

After all the chat about this car, the detailed ad, my pm's with alistair and the fact that Rog fitted the engine I am pretty sure this car is a good one. I'm actually looking forward to the 2.5 hour drive to go see it (Looking forward to the drive back even more smile ).

I will be taking the buyers guide with me to make sure I dont make any mistakes....its always a bit nerve racking fro someone like me who hasn't got the mechanically knowledge of some of the forums users.

Spoke to Flea today.....providing I buy it, it will be at Solo early next week for front disks and pads, suspension check out, full service and Oil pressure gauge fact finding mission, then down to Flea for an EBC, re-map and RR session, so all going well it will be perfect for Auto Italia (Apart from the couple of small issues with the bodywork)

Hope it all goes well for you.
What EBC are you getting.....I just fitted a gizzmo and it looks the business ?

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 25/03/2010 23:26

cause I'm only going be running around 280bhp, Flea reckons the Gizzmo will be perfect so I'm not going argue with that.

I think there is a chance KTM is going to see this today which means it may be gone tomorrow which is the earliest I can get to it frown

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 26/03/2010 14:03

dude i feel bad about all this i did want to buy but i wouldnt without seeing it, so you go tomorrow and see if its the one for you but take into account it will need a spend...i spoke today and was tempted to buy over the phone but not a good idea.. good luck and don't go with high expectations it has its little issues go expecting to have jobs to do and money to spend or you will be disapointed..the rare oppertunities that arise to buy a low miles very tidy example with all major jobs done will be few and far between and you will need a big budget to secure one..this way see it as an ongoing project and just do all the jobs one at a time and eventually you will have what you wanted

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 26/03/2010 15:21

you dont have to feel bad....your just as entitled as I am to buy it....my sad face was just because I thought it might sell before I had a chance to go see it.

I have printed off the buyers guides and check lists and have already factored into my budget a trip to Solo for brakes, service and power steering pump etc then a trip to flea for an EBC and remap.

If something pops up during my inspection that suggests I should walk away...I will

Im hoping to get word from Rick today to let me know what the damage is............I had a lot of plans for some mods I cold get done before AutoItalia, but I fear it will all be spent on fixing her now.........never mind, at least I should make it to AutoItalia, all be it with slightly tatty wheels and no EBC/remap

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 30/03/2010 17:34

That's "Chicken Tikka Lasagne" if you wouldn't mind calling it by it's full name, we don't call you Bez laugh

Forget the mods DJ, just get her running as fiat intended first, actually, just get her running correctly, fiat probably intended them to break.

Get the mechanicals sorted and get the body cleaned up and she'll look lovely smile I'd much rather see a nice looking, healthy coupe than a rough looking fast turd !

Not that yours is a turd, it was just a figure of speech.

I'll get my coat.

+1

I wouldn't want to be re-mapping or modding a car that was not mechnically 100% .. that's just a recipe for disaster and big repair bills

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 30/03/2010 19:26

believe me peeps....all my modding ideas are on the back burner till she's mechanically sound.

The thing that annoys me the most is that I dont think I will have any money to sort the bodywork before autoitalia.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 30/03/2010 19:26

bodywork isnt too bad....but the wheels need a serious refurb
Posted By: Jimbo

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 30/03/2010 20:35

You can get the wheels done for not a lot of money, either professionally powder coated or rub them down and spray them your self.

Re: 98' L3TUR LE Vinci Grey Now £3k <updated> - 30/03/2010 20:43

I might give them a go myself, but if I dont get a chance I dont suppose it will be a massive disaster if its not 100% for autoitalia..........main reason I'm going is to meet everyone
