Ink Black 20VT6 Discussion thread - 18/02/2010 13:24

Am I reading the service history right on this car........has it gone nearly 50000 miles on its current cam belt.

Also, do you have information on the oil pressure on start and when hot?

Ok people...I was just wondering if fellow forum goers would be able to give me there opinion on this car (if that is allowed...not 100% sure of the rules).

It looks to me like the Cam Belt will need changing pretty urgently and there is obviously a bit of bodywork to do on it........also, thats a lot of mileage which always makes me nervous...even with a good service history.

I would like to make it clear that I am not insulting the car or the owner in anyway, I'm just keen to get an opinion.

I'm sure over-all it's very nice and it looks good to me but the photos make the alloys look like they want refurbing and there appears to be rust at the back of one of the front wheel arches. also this car is Cat C and the cambelt would seem to be due.

I've been watching sale prices for a few months now and the ones I've seen are going for less (which I think is wrong but that's what I've seen).

I'm sure it's a lovely car though, just needs a small amount of tidying and a cambelt.

CarlT seemed to think it was a good'enwhen he sold it.Its a pity the photos from his account have gone off the original advert. http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=39903&Number=498265#Post498265

I'm considering putting in an offer as it is becoming increasingly obvious that I'm not gonna be able to afford my dream LE.

I definitely think if I put an offer in I need to factor in the cambelt change and a bit of tidying.

Looks like the offside fog light is smashed, but I don't see reference to that. confused

Also I think the bonnet catch on the slam panel looks different to normal, sure that isn't an issue though.

Do not worry about the mileage, if its been looked after (I will get to that in a moment) and serviced then it will have plenty of life left in it.

I do wonder why the cambelt hasn't been changed, that should be done asap as its approaching 5 years without a change. The aux belt could be a mess and could go at anytime.

Clutch as well as cambelt along with a wheel refurb and some bodywork and niggly bits?

I reckon it needs a grand to get it perfect.

You may well need a bit more than that I would imagine....if you are looking to get it perfect

Re: Ink Black 20VT6 Discussion thread - 19/02/2010 12:49

To get it Patch perfect it would cost an awful lot more than that.......I've seen your project thread regarding the plus smile

I have spoken with Solo Italia:
Cambelt/Clutch and Service would be about £1000 with VAT and club discount.
Weel refurb £200
Bodywork £200 (Thats my guestimate without a massive amount of experience in this area)

Take all that into consideration and Patch is right, would probably be closer to £1500.

I've made an offer..........unfortunately I have had to take all the costs into account so its not a very high offer....we'll see

Re: Ink Black 20VT6 Discussion thread - 21/02/2010 19:10

Offer was rejected unfortunately. Thought the offer was very fair considering the amount of work that needs to be done immediately after buying. Seller disagrees so the search continues

Re: Ink Black 20VT6 Discussion thread - 02/03/2010 00:23

This car is now on Pistonheads with no mention of the clutch slip or requirement for a cambelt ASAP (other than the fact that you can see in the service history that it hasn't been done for 46k and if you dont know coupes you wont notice this)......some poor soul will get a shock if they dont know their stuff.

Re: Ink Black 20VT6 Discussion thread - 02/03/2010 10:50

Hi
I've just listed the car on Pistonheads.
Rest assured any defects will be pointed out during communication with possible buyers; I've been completely open about this car & have volunteered the info freely on this forum I would apply the same logic to any potential buyer in advance of a viewing etc.

In addition references about me & the car can be sought from a highly respected source on this forum (FCSS)

Please note I'm a genuine car enthusiast & my unwillingness to sell this car for a song doesn't mean I'm a bad seller.

personally i wouldnt even look at this if it was £2000 . too many niggles cat c/ clutch/cambelt due plus bodywork and wheels... just check to see what people who manage to sell actually get£....with those problems in mind its obvious the seller has adjusted the price to reflect and has to be commended for his honesty.. saw a lovely moon grey plus on p.h recently that needed less spent for around £1795 iirc however i saw this late and its now gone!!
i will continue to look for one but imo this ones not for me..nearly bought a sprinty 20vt with less miles again required less work for £800 but was beaten too it,, i guess i just want vfm factor so wont pay peoples over inflated valuation..being realistic is a better way of selling..i know i have had an evo4 since sep09 it owes me £4500 and i am about to sell it for £3000!! -£1500 in just 6 months! this price is what people are paying and the ones upwards of £3500 are constantly being readvertised!!
my last two coupes [20vt's] were £1600 each 2008/2009 both had less than 100,000 miles mostly full history avg-good condition 98's portos.. 1st was pretty much std the 2nd stage 1 incl fmic full suspension mods upgraded wheels and body!! again not mint but very enjoyable..suspension for me was way too hard so preffered std setup..sorry to go on here but just paints a picture..but we all see things slightly differently dont we! dont think this is too harsh after all its an open forum discussion..think if my evo needed that much done plus catc i would make it the lowest price four on any marketing!! quite rightly though your cars only worth what people are prepared to pay for it.. am sure the car will sell though in time....
