That sounds a beautifull bargain! frown

Also my favorite colour - you don't wanna swap it for my sorted Sprint Blue 20VT do you? smile (brand new engine 30K ago lol)

what is your hot oil pressure?

sounds like a good buy and i really fancy it but i asked about oil pressure at its worst in traffic and it does dip below 1.5 which has scared me off a bit also had to replace the turbo as it was smoking ..maybe previous owner had a bit too much fun with the manual boost cont..or maybe just the decat did it! smile

naively, what should hot oil pressure be?

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 12/12/2009 10:41

1.5 bar minimum on hot tick over

any less requires some investigation as to the cause, It could be quite a few things causing it..

iceberg told me he'd only worry if one was as low as .5 bar. face it, if it didn't have an oil gauge nobody would give a flying freak about it provided the levels are kept to correct levels and oil changes are regular.

mine regularly drops to about 1 bar when hot and both motormech and flea have said i have a strong engine, putting out 278bhp without performance mods. some use more oil than others, it's no massive deal imo....

it'll be quick for sure, to me (i'm no expert) the mods seem fine but that is no guarantee. like any car, check as much as you can using the buyers guide from this forum, and preferably take someone who knows about these cars with you to check stuff out. if you have any doubts over anything major then walk away, there are others around.

yellow is one of those marmite colours, but if you're under 30 i'm sure the attention it gets would become a good thing...

steveo says its been to rog @ poweritalia so that sounds good to me.

if it was any other colour i would be on my way to see steveo now!

nicely modded, stge 1 mods, which is pretty much all i'd do to a coupe anyway.

currently tossing up the idea of swapping my std 16vt for a 20vt so this would be a decent trade up, rather than spending 1500 quid modding ym 16vt to a similar power level.

yellow, how can you not like it!

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 12/12/2009 12:34

ha!

black vinyl wrap on the roof, and it'll look the business.

i do like it, but if i'm going to mess about swapping one coupe for another, i want my perfect spec which is ink black/vinci grey, electric blue.

still, might see if i can view this one as the mod levels and condition do look good.

I'm not a million miles away from the car and if it had been any other colour, I probably would have ventured over to Gravesend for a looksie.

Although its got vented wings, where are the indicators?! (thinking MOT)

Interestingly, its back on ebay. And less than 5 miles away from me (its getting closer!). Apparently its got a slipping clutch.

I have to say its almost tempting but can't help but think to buy it and then sell it later on rings bells.

Slipping clutch on just 68k miles? Been ragged perhaps?

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 04/01/2010 20:53

if it's on it's original clutch wouldn't that be within the realms of normal use?

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 04/01/2010 20:57

Depends how you drive it? smile

I may be wrong but I don't see any reason why a clutch wouldn't last 100k+ given correct usage in a Coupe.

My Coup is still on its original clutch and its done 121k

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 07/01/2010 00:21

Well, been thinking on it and I reckon it's got more wrong with it than just the clutch. Don't think I'll persue it!

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 08/01/2010 08:41

Surely clutch life would be subjective anyway, a car that spends it's life doing a steady 60 on the motorway is going to keep it's clutch longer than a car that spends it's life in the city stop-starting all the time?

Did this sell?

Re: 1997 Broom yellow 20VT for sale nicely modded - 15/01/2010 22:08

Yes but its back on ebay. Now located in Folkestone but has a shot clutch.

On a previous thread, the oil pressure was under question as well.
