Should i sell and buy a heavily modified car???? - 26/03/2006 22:05

Ive been drooling over a car for sale and im considering selling mine and buying it. Ive never considered doing this which is why im asking for opinions. Am i just being wow'd by this car and would i be doing the wrong thing by selling my car which im perfectly happy with?

I spent over 12 months looking for a coop before buying mine and travelled 500 miles to get it but i keep looking at this heavy modded car and thinking what a car!

Since buying my car and reading this forum the temptation to modify my car as been hard to resist but with my car being an immaculate late 2000 model ive mostly resisted temptation and only mildly modified

How much do you think my car is worth? Its:-

One owner from new before me
W-reg (2000)
20VT 6 Speed
Silver 180mph Plus dials
Moon Grey
41,000 Miles
Leather
Sunroof
Push button start

Car is in immaculate condition apart from a ding in the passanger side sill where the previous owner had a blond momment when jacking the car at night.

So opinions please. Should i sell mine and buy a modified car? How much is mine worth?

Cheers, Dan.

Re: Should i sell mine and buy Rogs car???? - 26/03/2006 22:27

Just my opinion but from what you've described I would have paid £5800ish 6 months ago when I was looking for a Coupe, minus the ding & mods, but to be honest if I'd have turned up and seen that sill I would have walked away.
(6 months ago I paid £6250 for a mint 1998 20vt with 38k and new cam belt etc.. & 6 months warranty) I know I could have got a 20vt for less but I was happy to pay the price for a godun.
I recommend you get that sorted before selling. Looks great other than that.

P.S. Have you got a price for heavily modified Coupe coz I think it might cost more than you can raise for yours. If you can afford the difference and were going to start moding then I think you should do it.

I wasnt planning to sell hence the ding still being there. I will be getting it sorted and maybe fitting LE skirts and lips in the not so distant future. If i was preparing the car for sale i agree and would have sorted out the ding first.

Cars like the one im interested in doing come about very often and i wouldnt have time to sort out the sill

PM JimO - He was in exactly the same position and ended up with a modded coupe.

You haven't said anything about the car you're thinking of buying. Surely that's what will decide your actions - if you have to have it, you'll sell your current car, & if you don't, you won't. Personally, I wouldn't buy a heavily modded car, as I think they're potentially unreliable & will never fetch as good a price when you come to sell. Plus IMO the more you mod a car, the more you detract from the original balance of the design. But that's just my preference - each to their own.

Hello *waves*

As Kenno says, I was faced with a similar choice, I had a mint std coupe, but wanted a modded coupe. So I just took the plunge, but I am very decisive when it comes to things like that. I must say I now love my car, I love the power difference, the noise, the speed - everything about it. To mod a car to the stage that Rogers is at, will cost you a bundle of money. I have driven Rog's car and it is awesome, very quick.

2 things I found is:

1. I sold a relatively new car, with low mileage for a P reg with double the mileage. And to be honest, I was a bit sad to have "just another" coupe, but that only lasted about a week. But I still think how much nicer a Y reg is than a P reg. Its just a status thing

2. My current car is not as modded as Rogs, but is fairly heavily modded. And the whole experience becomes alot more "raw". When you come from a std exhaust to a 3" decat (obviously not me officer) system it sounds different, when you come from a car on std springs to one that is lowered, the ride is different, etc. I am not saying it is worse, but by no means is it as smooth. Modded to std is like chalk and cheese to a degree. So you need to think can you live the noise, the harsher ride, etc. For me this isn't really a problem as I do maybe 200 miles a month in mine.

But overall, I am very happy with my decision of going from my Y reg to where I am now. So happy in fact that I thinking of selling, but thats for a different post

who said that

Its something I am thinking of, but for once I can't decide when I decided to sell last time, I had made my mind up in about 30 seconds, so I guess the fact that I am struggling means I don't really want to do it. I might put it off until next year, then again I might not

Ive decided to stick with my car for now. Im more than happy with it and think if/when i choose to go up the heavily modified route ill go for something like an Evo.
