Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 30/11/2008 17:51

The organisers have emailed me preliminary details.

Style, prestige &
imagination come to power !

For its eighth edition, SpaItalia will pay a tribute to one of the most important Italian coachbuilder. Not through its production figures but certainly by the exclusive character of each piece of its creation. Every car coming out of the Carrozzeria Castagna was and remains a superb piece of stylish craftsmanship
It is indeed to a prestigious cultural and artistic discovery that the organizer of SpaItalia will have the pleasure to invite the Italian style lovers. This will take place at Spa-Francorchamps, the world’s most beautiful track, on June 13 and 14, 2009.

The Theme
Established during the 19th century, the Carrozzeria Castagna & Cie immediately set itself apart by the stylishness and the prestige of its achievements. Working to measure for the greatest names of the Italian aristocracy, the company left us numerous unique art pieces as the legendary Alfa Romeo 40/60 HP Aerodinamica.
After WW2, the factory encountered some difficulties, as lots of small workshops dedicating their talent to the manufacturing of rare pieces.
Vanished in1954, the name Castagna made a conspicuous come-back by the end of the 90’s and now devoted itself to fulfill the mobile dreams of people looking for some exclusivity for their Maserati, Mini, Bentley or Ferrari.
Most of the original surviving pieces from the early ages are now making the pride of the greatest Concours d’Élégance. From Pebble Beach to Villa d’Este, those excellent pieces of design always make great impression upon juries, trusting awards and trophies around the world.

The Castagna Gathering.
A World Premiere !

Not only some important Castagna historical models will be on display at SpaItalia but the event will be the theatre of the brand’s very first assembly, with most of the cars coming from Italy.
This world premiere will give visitors the opportunity to be in close contact with models usually only visible on Californian greens or along the Como lakeside.

The activities.

All Italian Beauties !
As always, SpaItalia will not forget all the other transalpine makes or designers. Fiat Group Automobiles Belgio will reinforce its participation, offering the possibility to discover the latest Lancia and Alfa Romeo new models, on track or on roads. Ferrari aficionados will have the chance to uphold their annual date with Francorchamps in participating to free laps sessions or to the Grande Parade. On its way to Torino, the Fiat Club UK will more than probably pay a visit to the event, meeting there other clubs, faithful participants for years to SpaItalia.
Lastly and as every year, hundreds of Abarth, De Tomaso, Iso Rivolta, Lamborghini or Maserati owners will of course not want to miss this annual Italian celebration.
It is undoubtedly the diversity of activities proposed to the participants which makes the success of SpaItalia every year. On the Saturday, a touristic rally will take them to discover the most beautiful Spa surrounding roads.
Other traditional activities like the Grande Parade on the track, the First or Free Runs for sports cars will naturally be renewed.
However, this year, the Concours d’Élégance will deserve a very special attention. Indeed, no doubt that Castagna, as an exceptional theme, will attract exceptional cars !
To be informed about this unique event in Europe, news will be regularly posted on the website or sent by e-mail.

So, pencil today in your sports diary the date of the week-end of 13 & 14 June 2009 in order not to miss the appointment !

See you soon and thank you for your fidelity.

Do not hesitate to pass this information to any person being able to be interested.

Pete.

Excellent.

There should be unrestricted sessions each day specifically for coupes as well as the open to all unrestricted runs.

Hi folks,
i have just seen this topic.
We will plan something better than this 2008 edition, i mean for the hotel.

We will try to rent some track sessions if we are enough to get a good price (the more we will be, the more the fiat coupe track session will be cheaper).

We will also look for some better hostings : hotel, camping...

For the moment we are 17 french.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 17/12/2008 21:02

Hi guys,

i'm back with some good news. the french coupe club i represent is planning the meeting for our club.
Like last year, we will propose for our members the accomodation (hotel or camping), and of course the bookings (tickets, track sessions, grande parade etc...)

So if you are interested, we can plan it for you too, like we did in 2008.

For the moment we have found a potential hotel which could grant us some good prices with a good quality of service.

I have also contacted the organisators of Spa Italia to know the cost of some track sessions rentings.

If we get enough bookings, we will rent the track like we did this year.

So add your name to the list.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I gather you're in regular discussion with petep in any case so it's all good.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 18/12/2008 07:41

I would really only be going if there is track time due to the fact that i have to trailer the car there in the first place. So for me it is imperative, unless someone wants to foot the bill of course.
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 18/12/2008 10:39

Marco there will definately be unrestricted track time there: In 2008 there were about 4 hours a day.

What still has to be sorted is the Fiat Coupe only track sessions, again in 2008 there were 3 or 4 hours over the weekend.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 30/12/2008 18:59

Some news...

As you know, the french coupe club is planning a meeting at Spa like we did last year. Some of you were there (barmybob, petep...) and had some good times.
I am representing the FIAT COUPE CLUB NORD as the president and we will propose some accomodations and disctractions for our members. We are ready to propose you the same things.

I am in touch with the SPA ITALIA organisator, and after many emails, they are ready to book us some track sessions. These track sessions are 30 minutes long, and take place on saturday and sunday (morning and afternoon).
We planned to book 2 sessions (1 on saturday, and the last one on sunday). The price is 4250€ ; in exchange they give us 60 entrance tickets which are valuable for the whole weekend (price : 55€ each).

As we are not sure that we could get 60 subscriptions, and as our club can't pay, we changed our mind.

We are proposing you one track session on satuday june 13th (4 - 4:30 PM). the price is 1755€. we will get 30 free entrance tickets.

So we are looking for 30 participants. It will cost you 60€ for the weekend (entrance + track session). i think it is a very good price ! the track session will just cost you 5€ !

For the moment, we have to pay a deposit to get it. We habe to pay Spa before 01/15/2009 !

All i want for the moment is to get a deposit from the people who are ready to join us !
We accept check, or international bank transfer. PM me if you want the IBAN.

I count on you !

PS : we have negociated with a 4 stars hotel a special package : night + saturday night meal + sunday's breakfast => 68€ per person

Send your payment to :
FIAT COUPE CLUB SUD
Résidence Aria Marina,
Entrée F
Route des sanguinaires
20000 AJACCIO

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 30/12/2008 19:46

our club doesn't have paypal. i could give you my paypal address but the problem is that i will have some fees !

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 30/12/2008 20:18

How much deposit do you need babycash? Also how soon do we need to book the hotel or tell you how many people we are? Also just to be clear does this mean there is now only going to be one Coupe session? What about unrestricted sessions for my car?

Pete etc when are people planning on travelling over? I was expecting to stay Friday/Saturday/Sunday? Obviously it's a much longer journey for us from Scotlandshire. I wouldn't want to be holding people up waiting on me with the van and trailer.

The sooner we get organised the better the trip will be.

I have managed to recruit another coop'ster to the fold. My Dad is buying my green 20vt and we are both planning on this event.
We are hoping to go the Nurburgring before/after depending on dates.
Reading what Baby Cash said, it looks as if there will only be 30mins available on track at Spa-is that correct?
Posted By: Baby_Cash

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 30/12/2008 20:38

Good questions sparco.

For the moment our club is just going to rent 1 track session for us.
But if we are enough, we can rent another session.

look at the availibilities bellow
Saturday 13/6: 9h00 à 9h30 - 950,00 euros (w/vat)
Saturday 13/6: 11h30 à 12h00 - 1.315 euros (w/vat)
Saturday 13/6: 16h00 à 16h30 - 1.450 euros (w/vat)
Sunday 14/6: 9h00 à 9h30 - 1.100,00 euros (w/vat)
Sunday 14/6: 14h00 à 15h00 - 4.050 euros (w/vat)
Sunday 14/6: 15h00 à 15h30 - 2.025 euros (w/vat)
the belgian VAT is 21%

We could rent the sunday session (3 to 3:30PM), it cost 2450€ ! If we are 50 it will cost an extra 49€, if we are 30 it's gonna cost an extra 81€ per person !

If it is not possible, you can try the SCUDERIA (1 hour of free session with the other ferrari, lamborghini ... 120€), or the Grande Parade (1h but the speed is limited at 120kmh..50€). there are many sessions per day.

For the hotel, my friend is waiting for an answer. i mean if they can grant us the same prices for the people who will be there on friday.

PS : i need the full deposit (60€) or if you want you can already pay me the hotel. it's going to be better, because i will get the money necessary for the deposit quicker !

It looks like i will have a mechanic with me baby cash so do i need to pay 60 euros for them too?

Also who do i need to speak to about the unrestricted track time? Can i just wait until i get there or do we need to book early to get places?

I'll get the deposit to you this week.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 04/01/2009 21:42

Hi sparco ?
If your mechanic comes with you in the same car, he won't have to pay.
The 60€ entrance worth for the entrance (with track session) for the weekend, no matter how many you are in the car.

if you come with the trailer, i think you could leave it on the parking.

For the scuderia, grande parade (etc) you will have to wait the parution of the prices on spa italia's website

There is plenty of other track time available, the 30 minutes is for coupes only.
Nothing to stop anyone going round with the Ferraris, Lambos etc in the open Scuderia sessions.

You do need a crash hat though.

Posted By: Barmybob

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/01/2009 04:24

Kelv,

Is it not the Coupé only session that is just 30 minutes?

I am sure that the guys had two one hour stints last year, one on the Saturday and one on the sunday Morning. To be honest most of them left the track before the hour was up, Spa appears to be quite hard on the Coupé brakes when you are attacking the track.

Also last year quite a few Coupés participated in the Scuderia unlimited sessions, running alongside Italian exotica, race Cars etc

The parade sessions were also good fun. No helmets but out alongside plenty of fine Italian machinery. There was not too much sign of restriction when I was running either \:D

I am sure you could, if you wanted, spend ALL weekend on the track, but it would be mighty expensive \:o

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/01/2009 10:08

Putting the car o the trailer and driving there! Depends on what the sailing schedules are when Norkolkline take ove the Rosyth - Zebrugge sailing. Ideally i will use this service which will mean as little driving as possible but i get the feeling if i want to be there first thing Saturday morning then i might have to be Dover - Calais or the Tunnel. Remember i'm in the van so i'll be going a lot slower than cars.

From Zeebrugge it's about 150 miles to Spa. From Calais it's about 220 miles ish.

What are you thinking about?

Re-track time i'll be purchasing as many as i can afford espcially the Scuderia sessions. Spa is afterall one of the only rear F1 tracks left and to get the chance to let the coupe loose on it is a major box ticked of things to do.

Marco

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/01/2009 11:32

Marco,

I was actually more keen on taking the sail from Rosyth to avoid the long drive to dover..

However..think i might have to pull out..just checked Norfolklines prices..£230 outbound and £400 for the return journey..making that £630 return! \:o

Not to mention the 20 hour ferry ride

By the way..theres a ferry leaving Rosyth on the Thursday 11th so that should give you plenty of time to get to spa for Saturday?

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/01/2009 12:14

I know but i don't really want to be there on friday night if i can help it. I'd rather arrive saturday.

The ferry is very good and you would get a cabin just the same as the Hull - Zebrugge which is the only other option.

Dover - Calais is only £120 for a car IIRC and the tunnel is much the same, cheaper at non-peak times.

To make things easier for people in the UK, the club is transferring funds to Baby_cash to cover 5 entries this weekend.

3 of these entries have been allocated, if you would like to be included please let me know. If necessary I can increase the quantity but I need to know rapidly.

Just to remind you, the cost is 60 euros for the entire weekend including 30 minutes on the F1 circuit solely among fellow coupe enthusiasts.

I will tell you the exact pounds cost when I have seen the exchange rate we get, expect around £1.00 to the euro.
You will save having to pay the excessive charges UK banks make on European money transfers.

Baby_cash has confirmed receipts from Magooagain, Sparco and McMike.

I have transferred payment for 2 cars into the club account (me and my old man), please can you confirm this has been recieved Pete?

The plan for our trip, is to head down to Spa on Friday 12th and then obviously attend the Spa event.

Then after this we are going to head down to the Nurburgring, for 4 days.

There are evening sessions everynight of that week and on the following friday, it is a full afternoon.
So should hopefully get a few quiet(ish) laps.
Anyone else who fancies Nurburgring is more than welcome to come with us.

In the meantime can you please PM me your and your dad's details including car type and reg so that I can arrange for the tickets to reach you in due course.

Thanks,

Sounds like a good idea Mike. Could meet you on the M1 somewhere. Would be really good if we got on the same ferry as well! Had a really quick look the other night, and found them to be around £50 return. Cheap as chips

I'm almost certainly going to go with the French club's choice of hotel, 4* hotel at a 3* price.

Going on Friday too. Unfortunately Speedferries have gone tits up owing me 7 crossings, so still trying to find a good deal.

Ifyou paid speed ferries by credid card ,you may be able to claim it on their gaurentee.
LD lines .com are operating from there now,i booked my transit for £80 return yesterday.Boulogne/Dover. For febuary.I think a car was £48.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 21/01/2009 20:27

Thanks Joe,

I've been onto the credit card company since November, still not got my money back yet (£175.00)

I have just had a look a LD.co.uk, certainly cheap at £30.00 return dover Boulogne, but there is only 1 Sunday sailing at 16.15 which is a bit early.

Sea France want £91 return for the same day Dover Calais.

I'll keep digging round and will post what I find.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 21/01/2009 22:55

Just been looking at ferries.
The cheapest i have found is from Norfolkline which sails from Dover to Dunkirk.
Price varies depending on the time you travel but i will probably be going for the 12pm sailing on friday 12th june at the cost of £28
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 21/01/2009 23:50

It looks like I will go on LDlines Dover to Boulogne Friday morning for £24 then return Sunday evening via eurotunnel at 20:20 for £49.

Baby-Cash has told me that there is the possibility of an 0900 to 0930 coupe only track session on Sunday.
If we can get a total of 30 takers (both clubs), the cost will be 33 euros for the session.

Please post your interest.

Pete what can you get rate wise for me with the van and trailer at 11 metres in length?? You seem to be getting very good rates. I don't really want to drive all the way to Dover but if the rate is good enough then i'm up for it. I could probably keep up with the cope guys as we don't hang around in the van. Funny that wheni think about it, me not hanging about!

At this rate i'll never be off track.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 22/01/2009 10:57

Marco, have a look at LD's website: http://www.ldlines.com I found £115 return leaving Friday at 0700 and returning Monday at 1615. Dover to Boulogne

Single £64 Dover Boulogne if you want to come back another route.
The service to Boulogne does not start until February so you need to enter a later date before it will show up on the menu.

If you want to get back Sunday night then the Channel tunnel comes out at £122 Calais to Folkestone between 10PM Sunday and 10AM Monday. The website I went to is http://www.eurotunnel.com , have a look there. There are all sorts of permutations possible there.

Personally I'm going for 0700 Friday Dover Boulogne with LD and then back 1020pm Sunday with Eurotunnel.

Hope this helps.

Guys, I'm still potentially interested in coming again this year but unfortunately I can't commit to anything this far away from Summer due to my work. I'm not that fussed about the coupe only track time so would probably only be entering in the grande parade anyway.

Babycash - how quickly do you think we need to confirm with you in order to get a room at the Hotel?

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 23/01/2009 01:23

Another ferry option, which I have booked.

Dover - Dunkerque via Norfolkline.

If you can use this link: http://www.ferrycheap.com/norfolkline-offer.asp it has a special deal for ex Speedferries customers.
Book before 18th February.

Otherwise http://www.Norfolkline.com may be slightly cheaper than Ferrycheap.

I've chosen 0800 on Friday returning 2001 Sunday. - Price £38.00 return.

Yep it's not the best deal of the year, but the passion has no price when you can drive on one of the best track of the world.

It's been 4 years now that i go to Spa Italia, and all i can tell you is that, year in and year out, the prices increase. For example in 2008, the scuderia cost 120€ (130€ this year) etc.. Grande Parade price increased last year too...

Right after a few attempts i think i have sorted it now for babay cash.

I have paid Baby Cash for:
Entrance and coupe track time on Saturday
Saturday night including meal for 2 people
Extra coupe session on sunday

Over and above that through the Spa Italia guys i have:
Scuderia session 14:00 - 15:00 on Saturday
Scuderia session 10:30 - 11:30 on Sunday
Grande Parade 13:00 - 14:00 on sunday

I will probably arrive at Spa on the saturday morning sometime and then possibly leave a little early on the sunday to catch the ferry but this has to be confirmed yet.

I am not sure i understand this form.I Thought the money i sent by post to baby cash was for two days entrance and half an hour on the track with other coupes.
I am not staying at the Hotel.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 24/02/2009 22:09

It depends on what you've paid for and what you are doing. If you've already paid for entrance + any additional track sessions you're undertaking and you are sorting out your own accommodation (I think you mentioned camping?), then I guess it's just your details you need to supply.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 24/02/2009 22:14

Yes Joe, its just so that Baby_Cash can register you and send you your entrance ticket as he will get them all in bulk from the Spa Italia organisers.

It should be OK this week, i have contacted SPA's organisator in order to get the tickets asap !

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 11/05/2009 08:29

Guys, i need you to confirm me that the list bellow i sent to Spa for the bookings are right.
All you have to do when you are in Spa Italia, is to go to the office and get your tickets for the different events (parade, rallye, scuderia). Everything is booked to your own name (excepted the entrance tickets i will send send you when i get them).

So if it's wrong, you won't participate to the events you paid for ooo

Here's the list :

SCUDERIA DEL COUPE - saturday :
Mark H***
Mike McD*******
Joseph MA*****
Pete PE*******
Bob MI********
Matthew BR*****
Matthew MOR*****
Timothy MOR******

SCUDERIA DEL COUPE - sunday :
Mark HA**
Mike McDO***
Matthew BR***
Matthew MOR***
Timothy MOR***

SCUDERIA :
saturday 2-3PM : Matthew MOR***
Sunday 10:30 - 11:30Am : Matthew MOR***

Then, i need you to confirm again, how many rooms you need, and how many people you will be at the hotel.
We need it to book like you want !

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 04/06/2009 23:32

I'm staying in Highgate on the thursday night, i'd have a look how close but i'm on my mobile and it doesn't like it. I am indeed carting a full set of track rubber down. There is going to be a lot of track time so i wanted to make sure i had something to go home on. I'm hoping to swap all the wheels over at the hotel and find somewhere to store them (in the bath?). I have 2 spare and pretty scabby wheels you can have cheap if you want them. Don't have any spare tyres though i'm afraid. I'll pm you closer to the time and we'll make some arrangements. Cheers, matt

Fellas I've been to Spa many times for the GP and am damn envious......The main ticket entrance for the race brings you in behind the run down to Eau Rouge.....If anyones not been before I defy you not to be staggered by how steep Eau Rouge actually is in the flesh. You just don't appreciate it on the Tele.... Watch that left/right/left flick and then foot to the floor for an age thumb thumb ...do us proud!

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/06/2009 22:43

that is very organised Matt ! don't forget your lid...are you taking a trolley jack ?
Posted By: MattM

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/06/2009 22:48

My car is that low that a trolley jack doesn't fit underneath until i've jacked it up a few inches with the standard jack, so no, i'm not taking one. However, i have thrown my axle stands in just in case. I've taken the spare out (as i'll have 4 track wheels). I also have a brake bleeding kit, full spanner set, socket sets, screw drivers etc etc. I've bunged in some nuts and bolts and jubilee clips too just in case.

Lid is packed too, i also have the fire extinguisher screwed in position, first aid kit, spare bulb kit, warning triangle.I'll need full boost to get the car moving there is so much stuff in it!

Anyone got any breakdown cover sorted? Where's cheap?

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 08/06/2009 23:02

I'm impressed with all your preparation - i'm going to extend my RAC cover for Europe for the 3 days, will cost £26

I have some home-made ramps so might take these and a trolley jack I think

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 09/06/2009 05:40

Listen boys i have a very low trolley jack and will be bringing a the full toolbox and lots of bits including stands. I do't go anywhere without them so if anyone doesn't have room they are welcome to use mine.

No problem Mike that's the joy of bringing the car on the trailer i suppose, you can bring all the crap you like without any worries. I'd still prefer to drive the car but when you get a run in it you'll realise that it wouldn't be nice on the public roads.

Nice one Sparco.I have a couple of spare relays with me for the fuel pump etc.i am bringing a couple of skid lids with me,i can bring another if anyone needs one.
I will be takeing it steady round the cicuit,as i have not had anyone in the know to check out my 20vt yet.
Low milage but not sure about suspension etc.
New tires, discs and pads though so i should stop ok. laugh

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 09/06/2009 13:12

WOOOHOOOOWWWW!!!!

I'm really counting down to this one guys. We'll be in the hotel friday evening, I got all the tickets yesterday.

I'll probably be the only one without a Coupe during the track session as I'll be driving the Diesel Alfa. Unfortunately some idiot but a good dent in the boot, so it won't be in top condition.

Marco, I don't know if you have a second seat in that car of yours, but if you do, I can already tell you I'll be lending you my missus. However, this will just be to take her around the track for a couple of laps. Hopefully then she'll be investing in a Coupe sometime soon. So keep a good balance between scary and stylish wink. And if you have some time for me I'd love to get a passenger feel of your beast.

So guys... looking forward to this and I'm very thankful to Matt B that I was able to take his place for this event.

See you this weekend!

I shall be buying food in Begium as i will be there before the weekend.
I have read on the French Forum that the Guys are going to ask the Hotel to use their cold store/fridge.
I think you may also have a fridge in you,re room.
But if you get into Belgium late it may be to late to buy grub there.

That's me just about packed, the car is full with club stuff and I'm off to fill up with Tesco's finest. Then leave home around 4:30 am.

A tip for those who have not used Belgian motorway services, tipping the loo attendant 30cents is pretty well universal. Some chains give you a ticket in return for 30 cents off your coffee.

I guess you were in the red 20VT confused Are you sure I didn't come to talk to you yesterday?

Giuseppe
It was really nice to finally meet you and the family on Saturday. I would really like to thank you all so much for all the help you guys offered. It was really appreciated and I was not sure if I made that clear on the day. It is also fantastic to hear that you recovered the photos; there were some great ones on your camera and I can't wait to see them cool

Anyhow we are now back in Roermond and I finally have some time to sit down and write a quick report on SPA 2009.

The SPA Italia event always has plenty to offer any Italian car enthusiast but I suppose the highlight is that you get the opportunity to drive your Coupé on one of the best racing tracks in the world. This was made extra special for Coupe enthusiasts with over 40 Coupés taking part and the fact that Marco had made the trip from Scotland, an epic trip as it turned out shocked , with his beast of a Coupé track car. Marco even offered to take people out for a few laps of the circuit with him and he had no shortage of takers with some people having really interesting runs rolleyes laugh

The weather this year was sun, sun and more sun so yep, you’ve guessed it Bob was soon sporting the now familiar pink head blush

After the day at the track we made our way to the Hotel where we soon discovered that some of our group possessed hidden talents. Julio stunned us all with his card tricks, “MATTS DAD” tickled to old ivory’s and Marco did and amazing trick with a chair! There is so much more I could report but I think we should let some of the pictures appear first wink

May I also take this opportunity to thank the French club for again organising the tickets, track time and accommodation, cheers guys beer thumb

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 15/06/2009 08:15

I think I was running with Martijn on the track (Martijn, I was the guy in the red Alfa Diesel that you didn't seem to get rid of laugh ).

Had a fantastic weekend and it was great to meet so many people. Hope everybody gets their Coupe sorted again with the necessary new Turbo, brake discs and pads and new bolts here and there. The Alfa held up nicely, but then it's quite used to being driven hard. Either way, guess I'll also have to check the Turbo (110.000 miles with the original now) and the brakes (the pads are still quite okay, but they are extremely noisy so I think the discs might have a giant lip on them).

Great to see Marco there (and Stuart - his drunk English is wonderfully short) and have the chance to co-pilot in his racer. The French were really amazed - they said the car is a legend over there and it was so exciting to see it in the flesh.

Now then... have to try and find a Coupe for next year.

Yes. Mike and I drove back in convoy from Spa right through to the M20. We were booked on the same ferry.

I had a great time as well, was definately worthwile to come down to Spa! The track itself and the surroundings are very nice indeed. There are some great driving roads besides the track also, too bad a lot of them are nearly undriveable in the coupe (massive holes are quite common it seems!).

I haven't been on the track with the coupe myself, but have been in kj's Alfa and Sparco's coupe and it's an impressive track.. Will have to try to make a few laps myself next year.

Also great to see Sparco joining us with the racing coupe. Quite an effort to drive down from Scotland just for a few (well, quite a few in his case) laps round the Spa track! And his trip to come down to Spa wasn't that lucky either, hope it went better on the way back.

Here are some pics I made:

The car went off on one of the most infamous corners in the world. Eau Rouge has claimed many vicims over the years, thankfully all that was hurt on this occasion was some metalwork.

Have been busy with that video KJ, the orginal video off the camera was nearly 600mb! I compressed it to an mpeg4 file, but that was still 200mb (but still good quality). I've just uploaded it to youtube (took a while!). The quality is terrible at the moment, but it says it's still being processed and should get better after that...

Here's the link: Coupe's on track

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 15/06/2009 17:13

The quality seems to be ok now, just the framerate is slighty screwed up. Ah well, gives an impression of driving on the track smile

Hi Guys,

hope you enjoyed your weekend at spa, and hope you enjoyed our french comitee !

It's been tough to organize this event as we got some problems with our south members that rule the french club.
i did not have the opportunity to talk to all the people, i wish you had some good times and enjoyed your nights at the hotel.

Marcouzze, the owner of the orange coop, who was organising the event with me, had an accident during the scuderia del coupé. I got some problems too, it was a nightmare ! i had to return to the paddock to fix my problem, then i could have returned on the track.

So, i have created a photobucket account in order to get the most photos i can get. I would like to make a video footage with some pics & vids.
Could you post your stuffs there ? PM me for more details

Wow Wow Wow, i can assure you that we did pay. Do not forget we had 1 extra night, and settled up on the Sunday evening.
Please DO NOT post up on a public forum with allegations. I and my Father both pride ourselves on being honest, we have no reason to steal.
Baby_Cash you are Out of order, a PM asking for a explanation, rather than an allegation in future.

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 16/06/2009 00:31

Well, What an absolute joy the Brussels ring road was this morning, during the rush hour! suicide

It was a fantastic weekend. Great meeting everybody, top bunch of people. Couldn't ask for more out of a weekend - plenty of beer, laughs, fast cars, and good company.

Had some really good and very fast track sessions. I have destroyed my slicks, and the car attracted quite a crowd when i pulled into the pits and my brakes were on fire (nearly). Everyone was asking how much power i had, as they were saying the car was very fast around the track.

We did the coupes proud this weekend, we were one of the fastest cars out on track, going past Ferraris, Masseratis, Alfa touring cars, etc etc.

Have a look at this Video. It was taken during a Scuderia session on Sunday morning. The video is taken from inside my car, with my old man filming, and i am following my old car, driven by my mate Paul with MCMIKE as passenger. We were both really on it, and he REALLY didn't want to let me past! Plenty of flames, overtaking, and very late braking! Mike had to get out because he felt sick after!

Well Worth a watch;

Flames and Ferraris

Fuel comsumption was quite amazing. On the ferry home we roughly worked out that i was achieving about 5/6 mpg on track. While hooning around Spa it was costing £75 an hour in fuel! Well worth it though.

The brakes were amazing, and i was able to brake very late, as you can see in the video, i outbrake a lot of cars. It also handled fantastically, and was very reliable, apart from a small issue with a camber bolt!

I'm interested to see if Marco has any log of his lap times, to see how i compare. I have just timed a lap from that video, with lots of traffic, at about 3:20s. I'm not sure what a good lap time is but i think around 3:30 is respectable.

Mike had some good laps too, i enjoyed a good duel between him and a ferrari testarossa, which he won!

Fuel consumption? Even including a full hour on the track I got from my home place (two hour drive) to the hotel, on the track and back home on less than a single tank! Ahh... that's why Le Mans is being won by Diesels. smile

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 16/06/2009 09:57

Hey everyone we eventually made it home yesterday afternoon after what can only be described as an Epic weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped organise the accomodation and track time and keeping me rehydrated over the weekend. It was brilliant to meet everyone and finally put faces to the names. For me it's the best track i've every driven on and i hope anyone that managed to come out for some laps enjoyed themselves. Sometimes it wasn't that fast due to traffic but i did manage to stretch the legs of the coupe here and there. Eau Rouge is as good as you could imagine.

Highlight of the weekend for me was late on the sunday afternoon sitting at the end of the pitlane and the owner of the Alfa 8C telling me how great MY car was and that i was to be congratulated on such a fantastic sounding thing etc etc. I did ask him to swap but he declined. Just the fact that he felt the need to make a point of coming over really made my weekend.

I have looked at some of the in-car so i will be posting some videos up on you-tube when i get a minute.

Awesome, amazing, fantastic weekend. biglaugh

MattM - great to team up with you, your Dad & Paul for some laughs / beers / driving, etc - between the 3 of you you were really *on it* - kicking Ferrari & Maser ass left, right & centre ! driving

Anyone who thinks Coupes are no good on a track would have been made to eat their words this weekend ! thumb

Great to see 'Belisha-beacon' Bob, Trish, Pete P, Kayjay, Sparco, Stuart (& the red monster LE), Magoo & Mrs Magoo, the French club members and anyone else I've forgotten to mention. Thanks to the french club for organising the event. drink wink

My Coupe held up well considering the old girl has more than a few miles on her - driving on the fantastic SPA track was incredible, I consumed half a tank in 30 mins ! laugh

This is one of the very best 4-wheeled events I have ever been to, and I would urge anyone out there with a drop of petrol in their veins to get to this event. smokin

I will be back next year for definite. wave

My standard did ok.I drove it hard for two laps and i was very happy with it.It stopped ok,and pulled excellenty.
I found that because my suspension is old and standard i could not brake late enough to carry good speed around the tight corners and then acheive high speed on the staights.I managed about 100 plus on the pit staight. But imo i think with more expierience of the track i could get faster being standard.Sparco could easily go faster than me if he drove my car.But as i had to go on holiday last week aswell i thought i had better save it.Imo high powered brakes make you go faster.

What's happened to your tyres in #3, looks like they have melted and stuck to the track??!

I *think* in no.2 i had just outbroke and gone down the inside of that Lamborghini, going into the bus stop chicane! I like that photo as well.

Judging by the state of those slicks after the track sessions, i think i probably did melt them.

I also like no.6, shame the back wheel didn't come off the floor - must go faster next time -

Matt how do you put them on here he sent me some too but like you i can't make my mind up. If i could e-mail them to someone and they could put them up for me that would be brilliant.

I think number 2, but maybe do some photo shopping and remove the indicator being on, meaning you were letting the faster car through wink

Re: Spa Italia 13th -14th June 2009 - 01/07/2009 09:39

Yeah i think the indicator was because i was pulling into the pits or i knocked it on while grappling with steering wheel because he definitly didn't go past me. I think the photographer will be able to get rid of that.

1 - 3 - 6 - 7.

I've asked for the originals of my car so I can play around with them before having them finished on canvas.

I have uploaded Sparco's pictures.

What do you think of these;

The ones that stand out for me are 4 and 8.

It would be interesting to see if there are any more photographers that have photos, i've tried looking but can't find any at all.

Good photos though, Marco's car looks like it's going sideways in some photos (which it probably was).

Have to say, watching your car going round was a treat Marco. It looked great and sounded even better, and was clearly very very fast

I like the one with the De Tomaso in front purely because that was what i was following in my first laps around Spa. I do like 4 too. The one of the hairpin should be good but maybe it's just a bit to much.

Probably was sideways in some of them as i was at times.
