OK so you guys convinced me that a 20vt is out of reach for £1,000 - aprt from the 30 ish bhp what other differences are there between 16vt and 20vt? Is maintenance easier on the 16v (because the engine is slightly smaller)

16vt thirstier on fuel,different wheels,no brembo brakes,interior is quite different. Interior door panels and center console etc.

Different drive i found,20vt more free reving and smooth boosting.16vt boosts harder.
Steering i think is heavier on a 16vt,only alittle-not a bad thing.

Sure there more but thats what i can think of off the top f my head

Found insurance alot cheaper and generally cheaper to maintain e.g cambelt ,clutch etc on the 16vt. even cheaper to insure me on a 20 na. less spares avaliable tho so keeping the car on the road may be more difficult

to be honest, the 20vt and 16vt are about the same price now. the only difference is how much they cost to work on, i think that the 16vt is actually cheaper to fix but more maintenance intensive

20VT more free revving than the 16VT, are you sure, was the 16VT poorly? I find quite the opposite and having driven a fair few of each that opinion stands.

If running costs concern you, I'd go for the 20v N/A, if they don't, try both the 20VT and 16VT and take your pick, both are great, both will make you smile, both are quite unique in different ways, they look the same but drive quite differently. Steering and brakes FEEL better on the 16VT and it pulls harder, however, the 20VT feels more modern and is smoother, if it's working ok that is! The 20Vt seems to me to be a little less reliable, or is that just a level of paranoia thats greater because of reading this forum? Performance wise, in standard trim, there is nothing to speak of between them and the 16VT feels faster for sure.

Regardless, don't let anyone sway your choice one way or the other, drive both, a good drive, take in A, B and at least a quick motorway run, brake hard, check for pulling, shaking, smoke and all the usual stuff and make your choice.

I drive a 20VT, and have owned a 16VT, so I have no reason to be biased, as mentioned, drive both, take your pick and enjoy!

I like the 16VT and 20VT having owned one of each.

Both are great in their own different ways.

I would buy on condition and history rather than model, a mint 16VT would be preferred to a ropey 20VT and vice versa.

Ill jump in laugh ive drove a very good 20vt curtisy of samsite and the experience was positive the car felt smoother on boost a very gradual build up on boost even with the gtech1 chip fitted feels like a comfy sofa with a turbo.

compare to my own 16VT well mine boosts harder corners better feels more alive and as for MPG are you sure a 20vt is better i can get 40MPG off boost the dink stage 2 is a great chip, feels like having a ride on rita at alton towers evil

I would love to here it mark? my opinion is the just isnt as much money to be made fixing a 16vt as there is a 20vt. look at the bay, its a hell of a lot easier to get to everything bar the AC compressor in the 16v/t

What's that then?

I do know there is a reason why the likes of Guy Croft have been tuning the Lampredi engine for donkeys years.

I'm sure Power Italia don't touch the 16VT for their own reasons, and I'm sure it won't be anything derogatory as the 16v version of the Lampredi is a superb engine.
