Bad days! I don't think this tuning malarkey agrees with me.
Went back to Dyno Demon today, armed with the GTEC1 that the unichip was originally mapped over, and a GTEC2 for if it all went wrong.
Steve installed the GTEC1 back into the ECU, plugged the old unichip back in, and did a power run to see where we stood. Mega Rich!
He then proceeded to try again to remap the old unichip. This time he could talk to the unchip, upload new settings etc, etc.
Basiclly after hours of trying, the old unichip would not map. He could create a map on his laptop fine, but as soon as he tried to upload it onto the ECU, it came up with comms errors again. We can only assume a faulty unichip.
My options by this point were to go to the new Unichip Q (£595). Which we had tried to map last time and had some degree of sucess. However, i was not prepared to pay that amount of money, especially when i knew Flea could do it.
I talked to Steve about my options and his words were "Take it to the guy from the club, it's a no-brainer".
We then dis-connected the frickin piece of crap unichip, and installed the GTEC2 into the ECU. Did a power run, and the result was mega-rich again. I was not expecting this at all, So i was questioning whether it could be a mechanical fault causing it to run so rich. However, as it was running lean on the dastek unichip Q, it must be a control issue!?
Anyway to sum up, 3 full days of mine and Steves time gone, and the car is still fooked!
