I was going to place a bid on this coop but after having looked at the photos and his previous feedback, decided not to. Is it my imagination or does this coop not have a handbrake!!!!? what on earth.......! What a nasty piece of work, selling someone a car like that, stating it has no faults! Has 1 footmat too!

That really is very odd

The lack of mats is nothing to worry about!

If you don't like the car, find another! And it's sold now anyhow...

The handbrake is RIGHT THERE!

Who cares that it's only got 1 footmat???????? \:\?

Looks quite nice but the sellers feedback would put me off slightly!!

Why do you think that one is a dog??? Looks ok, spend a fiver on an RAC check

Do you have a very low budget and hence presumably deep post purchase pockets?

Seriously, look at these - all with great history and enthusiast owners (in no particular order)

Because he is selling it with only a bit of mot left and it has just been sat on his drive for weeks? He also doesnt show the surface rust repair that he has carried out which strikes me as a bit odd. Do you think i should place a bid on it or do you think i should look elsewhere, bytheway, my first coop n reg broom yellow 2.0 16v na has lights under the drivers and passengers doors and thought it was a fantastic touch, do they all come with that as standard or was it discontinued later on? Thanks

I would not bid on a car without checking it out and HPI'ing it first. Just noticed that it is a 20v non turbo, not a prblem, but do you want a 20vt??

Why not ask him to provide pics of the rust \:\)

Only the 16v have the lights, not the 20v's

I have posted links above to the cars that would be good for you to look at

That red one has got me very curious. It looks immaculate, not just the bodywork but also under the bonnet. Considering it's done 120k miles it's incredibly clean under there, just look at the chassis legs!

Presumably a second car if it's been sat which he is not using enough, hence the sale? \:\?

Yeah, you're most probably right, probably just worry for the sake of it lol. Just one last question, what fuel is best to run the coop on as i wasnt too sure when i had my old one, is it unleaded, super unleaded, bp ultimate or shell optimax?

20v n/a, normal unleaded is fine. Turbo best to use Super/V-Power

Why, isn't it similar to V Power? No offence, but it's a 10 year old car, not a Ferrari...using good oil, checking it every week and changing it every six months is more important to standard coupe health \:\)

Worryingly, you appear to have coupe paranoia before even buying one! This may not be the best car for you if you are of a nervous disposition \:o They are often not cheap to run and can be quite stressful to own!

Jeez, i was only asking vickster! I am well aware of the coupe quirks and problems as i owned a broom yellow 2.0 16v na before and i sort of like it about them as it gives them character and a bit of a soul \:\) I don't know a massive amount about them although i do know quite a bit. I dont mind spending money on it as they are old cars and it is expected but i was just wondering what fuel is best to use and how to keep it maintained thats all. Thanks anyway

Erm, but you couldn't see the handbrake in a photo?

As I said, normal UL for the non-turbo and a higher octane for the turbos seems to be the norm. As to which super, it makes little difference, although some owners report that their cars prefer one type over another but this varies from car to car.

If you find one, you'll need to see which the car runs best on or ask the current owner. An long-term enthusiast forum owner selling on here should be able to tell you \:\)

If I were in your shoes with a small purchase budget, I'd go for a non turbo as they cost far less to maintain usually. Mechanically, the 20vt seems to behave very differently to the 16v n/a \:\) The biggest tip is actually to see and drive cars before driving, this is why I wouldn't buy a car from eBay if unable to check it out first

I know, i know lol. I think i need to go to the opticians, though to be fair, the photo is blurry and it is hard to make out as you would naturally assume that the handbrake would be on as the car is still. Anyways, thanks for all your help, hopefully by next week i will be the proud owner of a coop 20v na! I will post some pics of it up on here when i get it! Cheers, bye for now, tom

New2Coops, you've been given some sterling advice more than once and it's fallen on deaf ears. The best thing to do is buy an enthusiast owned car, whether that's forum or not, and use the buyers guide from here too. They are a 10 year old, 220bhp, Italian sports car. They are not going to be immaculate unless you want to spend £5k+. If you can't recognise a handbrake lever and are looking to spend less than £2k you may well not spot less apparent problems than "missing" cabin furniture.

No your memory serves you well \:\)

Dr Fenwick did sell 197 at some point last year before 20k miles fell off it.

I bought mine from a garage in Leicester, but I assume the 'dodgy' dealer bought it from ebay not sure what the ebay name was. Got a file full of stuff that got sent to the Trading Standards...will have a look later.
