The only noticeable difference would be flaming big side indicators.

the entire Service History will be unreadable (unless you are, or know someone who is, Japanese) that means you'll have to do every job as if it hasn't been done

Also beware of Sushi that has fallen down the side of the seats and causes a fishy smell. this is less of a problem from 2000 - on coupe's, from what I've read.

Coopless!

why bother? Would be so much easier and a much safer bet to buy a UK one.

Best to buy a known one from over here.

Makes far more sense to purchase a well cared for british example with no nasty surprises \:\)

How will you go about buying a Coupe from Mr Noshi Woshi? Surely it'll cost a bit more than the car's worth to fly over, buy the car, ship it over, then try sorting out the servicing! Most imported cars all read under 60K miles, with no service history, which on a Coupe is surely vital! And don't forget, the Sushi might have gone off by then, or your female passenger will need to close her legs lol!

Why not get the Energy Green one on AT instead?

Super rare etc, L&M serviced, warranty etc...

Quite tempted myself

I assume you're talking about the 20VT Plus from Tacoma Motors? I remember phoning them a while back about a really nice Vinci Gret LE for sale with 42k miles. It was also a Jap import.

Like the others have said, with a Japper, you cannot tell if the Service book is real or if it's a menu from a Sushi Restaurant. Also even if you have it translated, there is no reasonable chance of phoning up Japan to confirm FSH.

Jappers generally don't command as high a price as UK Spec cars. For the amount of money they're looking for, I'd spend a little more and get a UK one with FSH and all the big jobs done. It may be a false economy if you buy this nice looking cheaper example but then have to shell out for the belts to be changed etc for peace of mind.

Oh yeah, your speedo will be in KPH and not MPH aswell.

Come on don't be all negative. I think it is a very good idea - typically their cars are well kept and their climate and lack of salt on the roads in winter means the chasis is likely to be in better nick than 90% of the coupes in the UK. I would personally rather buy something like that than a UK car that has been out in the UK weather all its life

Yeah, but in this case Ive just looked at the Tacoma website and the summary for this 20vt+ says "Part Service History". Still think buy one in the UK where the history can be traced.

Do you have a link to this car. If you're gonna import, you better do so before July or else 2K Euro road tax a year

Here's the car on Tacoma's website Tacoma Ltd

What's the story with the new VRT pricing anyway? The new carbon emissions rate applies to new cars only yeah? To import a coupe will still be the same as the existing rip-off pricing on http://www.ros.ie ?

I read it as applying to all cars that are first registered in the state after July 2008 i.e. 2nd hand imports as well.

Re the car, is it just the photo or does the paint job look like someone got a brush, a tin of paint from a hardware shop and had a go himself? Edit (specifically the bonnet!)

Nah, the paint looks good to me. I think it's just the shiney Inky paint reflecting the surroundings.

Mmmmm... VRT Government Thieving Bass-Turds. Luckily I'm after a 20VT in January, not July. Bertie Ahern can smell my oil spooling through the turbo, pluming a big carbon footprint outta my back pipe!

Daithi, if you're looking for a coop, you should seriously consider the one auto integrale have for sale, it's down to 4500.

This Coupe?

Nah.... I'm not keen on the Broom Yellow. I mean, I don't mind it but I'd feel very self-consciuos driving a 350BHP banana!

Anyway I think I'd be doing 75mph in reverse through a hedge in that beast. I've never modded a car or anything. If I get a coupe I'll start with a standard 20VT 220bhp. I have an LE kit from Mariusz in the attic to add it as well. Then maybe I'll chance my arm with something simple like a drilled airbox or a K&N and maybe a chip in the future. If I reached 250bhp I'd be more than happy.

I know Auto Integrale has a special car there but it's still a lot of money. I plan on spending about 4000-4500 pounds on a standard sub 70k car with FSH, leather & aircon and major jobs done. Of course I first have to offload my 2007 Astra Sporthatch. I have the cash to buy the coupe already but not the money for VRT or tax & insurance. I dunno how long it'll take for the Astra to sell. 1 week or three months!

When I bought my 1st Coupe I had to look at it for 5 weeks parked in the carport unable to drive it until I sold my A3. my mates used to call round to take it for a spin and I had to sit in the passenger seat!!

Not fond of the colour myself, but it still seems a bargain. As has been said on here before, I wouldn't let mileage put you off. Barbz showed me the bore of a low mileage engine once that had been used for trips to the shops - it was practically corrugated .. something about it never reaching the temp it was designed for - he said he preferred to work in on high motorway milers, apparently the bore on these is usually smooth as a bab's ar*e!
