Following on from This Thread as promised, a post to see how many would be interested! In brief, the idea is to plan a road trip over a long weekend next summer, driving on some of the best, most scenic roads around the UK, driving between 'checkpoints', with a few overnight stops and possiby some events on the way. We could possibly end with a drive around one of the country's race tracks. Hopefully we can dip into Wales & Scotland on our travels! A bit like Britball but with the cars all being coupes! We can call on the knowledge of coupe owners around the country to advise us on some good roads, and of course search t'internet. We can try and keep costs as low as possible with the more people we get, for group bookings of hotels/B&B's etc. I think it would be a great trip and a great opportunity to do some proper driving! I'm happy to do most of the organising, but i think planning routes may be more of a collaborative effort for myself & a few others. So, if you like the sound of this then put thy name forwards! This is stage 1, to see how many we could possibly get. If anyone would like to help with elements of the organisation/route planning, please say. Once we've got some rough numbers we can start working some stuff out. If we start planning early, i.e. now, it'll be a lot more affordable for most as we have time to save the pennies! So, lets hope theres enough interest! I look forward to seeing a nice list of names......

Forget the UK one, There are too many meets and drives already around the UK. Instead go for a Euro one. A touring Holiday would be welcome. Maybe a trip to Italy to take the cars back to their mother land? Might be a good thing to stock up on parts whilst in Italy!! Andy.

as i said in the earlier thread i would prefer a European one. there isn't much in the UK that really interests me enough to spend a lot of cash. as sumplug said there are loads of meets and trackdays already organised for the UK.

Route from Honda Eurotrip
The route.
Saturday 30th June 2007 Catch the ferry at Dover to either Calais or Boulogne then head through France stopping off at the old pit lanes at Riems. We then head south using the payage through the Champagne Ardenne to the capital of the Burgundy region Dijon, for an over night stay
Sunday 1st July 2007 Today the real driving begins. Leaving Dijon we head past Lyon then Grenoble, before taking the Route Napoleon N85 which takes us through the Verdon Gorge (One of the nicest places in France) we then head for a two night stay in Nice. Tonight is the night, for those who want, can have a heavy late night drinking session
Monday 2nd July 2007 Rest day to visit Monaco or just chill on the beach in Nice or St Tropez
Tuesday 3rd July 2007 We leave Nice refreshed and ready for the days driving. They will be more twisties and mountain passes than you could ever dream about. We head for Briancon before taking in the Mont Cenis pass then onto the Little St Bernard Pass before reaching our overnight destination of Aosta (famous ski resort) in the Italian Alps.
Wednesday 4th July 2007 We leave Aosta and hit a mountain pass straight away the Great St Bernard pass before reaching the famous Furka pass, from here we follow Le Route de grande Alps passing through some beautiful Swiss mountain villages heading back into Italy to do the Passo del Bernina then onto the daddy of all twisties the Stelvio pass. We then head through some long mountain tunnels to hear the Vtec sing before hitting the Austrian Tirol, passing through Austria we head for our final destination of the day to a German Bavarian mountain villiage Garmisch Partenkirchen but not before taking a photo opportunity at the W$$K mountain the highest mountain in Germany
Thursday 5th July 2007 We leave Garmisch Partenkirchen then head through Austria again past Innsbruck and head for Austria's highest mountain and pass Grossglocknerstrasse from here we travel through Austria into Bavaria taking twistie B roads before we reach the Autobahn and keep to the speed limit. We travel through the German Autobahns all the way up to Koblenz (nice city near the Nurburgring) or a hotel nearer the ring.
Friday 6th July 2007 Today we spend a full day at the ring doing what we enjoy most then head back to Koblenz for a end of tour party.
Saturday 7th July 2007 After a long lay in we head back through Germany Belgium and France before catching our ferry back to the UK. Those who want to stay a little longer at the ring can and make their way back Sunday or Monday.
The total route is about 2200 miles it takes in fast autobahns, mountain passes, cols, Villages, Beaches, mountain villiages, holiday resorts ski resorts, racetracks, historical motorsport venue and 7 different countries

dont think any of those guys knew each other, most people take a passenger they know so when they have spare time they do stuff seperately.
but could always cut monaco/nice out. that would cut 2/3 days off that trip straight away. one thing you have to watch for is fatigue from too much driving thats why they have a couple of rest days.

I'd be up for this and if we ended up in Tuscany, i could take you up roads that would leave you shaking with excitement Please bear in mind though, that us folk up here in the Borders and Scotland have the best part of a day's journey to get to Dover, and back up! It's ok for you southern lot, France is nearly in your back yard One word of caution; Lets keep away from the long tunnels, ie. St Bernard and the like. The last time i drove through it, the air was that thick with smog that the engine almost cut out. Just purely a lack of oxygen due to the traffic, lack of ventilation and nose to tail HGVs churning out the black stuff.
This is how it should have come out of Torino!

I have driven to Tuscany more then once. Best to go after April, as the passes could still be blocked. I drove from Calais at 7.00pm at night, and stayed in Reims after going down the A26. Then following day, a drive to Macon. Stayed overnight. next day went through the Champagne region to Chamonix[picture box beautiful]. Then through Mount Blanc. On the other side, the road is on Stilts as you pass through the mountains. The road twists and turns as you head to Genoa. Final destination, Petrasenta in Italy with the Carrera Mountains behind [famous for Marble]. Luca, Piza all a nice drive away. Roads in the region are superb. You cannot do this and back in 4 days really, so would need 6-7 days to make it worthwhile. Or you could make a trip to Le Mans for the race!! Its in June. Andy.

What about doing both? As i run a business, i'd find it hard to take a week off for a Euro run (though i'd love to, business comes first!).
We could do a 2/3 day UK run for those who dont want to or cant afford a Euro Run, and the Euro run can cater for the others???
Or, tie in a short Euro run with Le Mans. I did Le Mans 2 years ago and can highly recommend!
I'd still be happy to organise a lot of the UK one, but i think someone else would need to look after the Euro one.
No harm in doing both. What do we think?

I would be interested in a Euro tour. I took a big Euro trip this summer and would love to visit Turin again I am already looking to attend SPA Italia 2008, as is Petep, and John (fastjjs) is thinking of hosting a bit of a Coupé doo in Holland arround that time too It would be nice to go to Holland before doing SPA and then heading south France / Italy and if possible meet up with some of the French and Italian Coupe club members too. I will start a New Thread in the Euro events area to cater for a possible Euro trip

Don't mean to sound unnecessarily negative, but I'd say that unless things have changed drastically, the chances of a Euro trip actually happening are very slim. I've been here long enough to remember several different Euro trip suggestions/plans and none have ever happened, because on the day where you start writing down how much it will cost, everyone suddenly has something else crop up which means that they can't make it now. That was the key reason I suggested a UK trip to start with. I'd love a trip down to the South of France then up through the Alps, etc, but do some sums and see who's still up for it then.
I think one of the good aspects of a UK trip might be that people can dip in and out for shorter periods if they want to, e.g. join for a couple of days. This would help if costs were an issue, and also if leave from work is tight.

Good suggestion Cappo. I think we'll need a good 15-20 bods throughout to make the hotels etc cheaper, if we get more in certain places then thats a bonus.

I totally agree with Cappo. Euro roadtrips have been discussed every year for the past 5 years or so and it never happened. It would be great if it would happen at some point, but I seriously doubt it. As for the UK road trip. I could be interested in this as well! I've done several trips to the UK in the past years and have always loved it. I'll definately keep an eye on this

I have an idea...
Clubcento a while ago done a south england to north scotland run. People joined along the way, and then on the way back down dropped off. Maybe something similar could be arranged?

Dont forget route planning is going to be a major nightmare and if this goes forward it may well be worth putting 2-3 people in charge of it. Avoiding Motorways and major towns would be the biggest challenge. And roads littered with speed cameras

Cappo had the same sort of idea a few posts above Ross, so could be a winner.
Definately need a few people doing route planning. We can call on the knowledge of those around the UK to suggest places, then take a look at how we can achieve it!

I'm defo up for it. I think if we are going the whole length of the country then we are looking at say 1200 miles of fuel, plus hotels plus food etc etc.

Sorry people that i havent been back to this thread! I'm still keen on something like this happening, and it seems there is enough interest.
However, circumstances with my business with the opening of a new showroom have made it difficualt for me to take part in the whole thing. Basically i had hoped to be open by now, but i aint. Wont be til summer.
So, i'm still happy to work with a few select others to bring this together, even though i may not be able to do most of it due to my commitments.
I did think tho, with the talk of the 'new' club, whether this kind of thing could be the annual tour or something?? I know in America they have the 'Fiat freak out' every year as part of a fiat club, and have done for 20 yrs i believe.
