16v to 20V Turbo? #261218

I know I've only just got my Coop, and yes I know I've only just passed my driving test BUT...

I'm thinking about trading in for a 20v Turbo next year but I thought I would ask you chaps some advice before I go for it.

Will servicing a lot more expensive? PowerFiat told me they are not working on 16v's anymore, so at least I can go to them for serving if I upgrade.

Are the MPG much less with the 20v?

I'm 27, but in my first year of driving, do you think insurance will go up a hug amount?

I've heard the 20's are less reliable, is this also something to worry about?

At the end of the day, I'm not a petrol-head at all, speed is not really important to me – I love the coup for its style and comfort... and yup it is fun when you put your foot down. Maybe I'm just wasting my money.

Thanks guys, appreciate your input.

From what i have heard so far the 20v has BETTER fuel consumption and BETTER reliabilty.

If these are so much of an issue and you are not too bothered about the performance then why not a 20v NA? They are much faster than the 16v NA anyway (about a second quicker to 60).

erm - 20v na is not that much quicker than a 16V na - but all the 20v cars have better fuel economy than their 16V counterparts.

Maintenance on a turbo is a LOT more than on an N/A car as there's a lot more to wear and go wrong!

16v turbo or 20v turbos can both be good cars

Just be sure to get a good one of either - 16v's are older of course and use more petrol but I would have a good 16vt over a average 20vt, get a good car thats been well looked after and be it 16v or 20v you will enjoy the turbo IMHO

I'm watching this thread intently, thinking myself of swapping, miss the dump valve noise...
